Hi all, I started touring/bikepacking last year on my tri-cross (Berlin-Gothenburg – mostly flat and paved). It has compact crank set – 32/50 and short cage derailleur in the back with max ~30 teeth cassette. On hills it was terrible to not be able to maintain high cadence. I would like to make it more capable for climbs and rougher terrain so I plan to fit 42 mm tires (thought about the spec pathfinder) and I’m not sure how to achieve wider range of gear-inches. My idea was to replace derailleur to long cage and fit 11-42 cassette but the capacity wouldn’t cover the difference of 50 teeth. What would you advise?
