Does anyone know if this is safe to do? (exposed battery/frame, pressure points, etc?)

I couldn’t find anyone else online who had tried putting a woven/wicker basket on the front carrier of the Electric, so I finally decided to just give it a try it myself.

I took a regular handlebar basket and hung it on the bag frame from the electric basket bag. The stock straps wouldn’t reach far enough, so I grabbed some double sided velcro tape and made my own. After the first ride, I noticed the basket had a tendency to slip off of the little lip/ridge at the bottom of the frame, so I added some more velcro straps to the bottom corners of the basket/frame, and now it seems very secure. (See 3rd & 4th picture.)

I considered putting the battery inside the basket instead, but decided against it for now. Doing so would require me to cut a hole in the basket for the battery port. I’m not even sure it’s ok to cut holes into woven baskets. Could they unravel and/or otherwise become structurally unstable? Maybe I’ll still test it out on a cheap basket at some point.

So far, it seems to be working out quite well and I’m really happy with it.

If anyone else has done something like this, I’d love to see it. Please share your pics!

(Bonus pic of using my rear rack as a rack for the first time. I kicked the box once while mounting the bike, but it was strapped on sufficiently far back to not cause heel strike when riding, at least for me.)

For the curious…

* Rear Box : Daiso
