After exactly 6 months on the road I am meeting my sister in Krakow. Sometimes you need to get far away from each other for a long time in order to realise how much you really love each other. Two weeks of relaxing in Krakow did good to me and got me energized to cycle towards the Tatra mountains. Steep switchback roads and near vertical offroad tracks take me through the Slovakian nature. I go for a hike to Slovakia’s most iconic mountain, the Krivan. In thick fog and bad weather conditions I cycle up the highest road in Slovakia, to Kralova Hola. It turns out to be my worst night ever due to extreme weather.

  1. Hi Niels, i'm following you on your trip to the Cape for a few months. You make beautifull video's and i like to see that you often choose the backroads. I have also made many bicycle trips myself. You enspire me. Keep it up. I can't wait for your new video to come out!

  2. Thank you. I'm cycling to these exactly same areas next summer. Eastern Poland Green Velo route, Krakow… Any problems with wild boars over there?

  3. A+++.
    Schwalbe Marathon Mondials are very good general purpose cycle touring tyres with good puncture protection. I have them on my bike. Zero punctures in 2 years riding. They replaced the legendary Marathon XR tyres which I also have. The best rim tape is Velox cloth tape.

  4. Loved your commentary and video work Niels. Great riding, rain and shine. A beautiful part of the world. Some dark skies there my friend and sharp shadows. Can you adjust the light setting on the film equipment please? It would help a lot in places😊 safe journeying.

  5. I had trouble getting lots of flats but new flat resistant tires completely eliminated the problem. I see you rode through Estonia too. I'm originally from Estonia, now living and bike touring here in Florida. Subbed your channel to continue to watch your videos. Stay safe! 🙂

  6. To repair a puncture from the inside, tape a piece of milk carton or plastic to the problem area of the rim 😎
    Thanks for the info…..We need more content like this during these times.
    I’ll be heading the same way in the next few weeks from S.France and the up to date info is tops…👍✅🌎

  7. Next time, I don't recommend you to sleep in the forest in Slovakia. We have too many bears in here, maybe even 6000 or more, which is really too many for such a small country and our politics don't want to solve this problem at all. There are many attacks on people in recent weeks, so be warned. Other than that, I'm really happy to live in our small beautiful country and I love to ride my bike in here. Hiking is also phenomenal in Slovakia.

  8. Hello Niels, how do you deal with the rain so well? Permanently no fenders and then another hike. Hm.

    Yes, small roads with hills, that's just nice for cycling.

    Sometimes I feel like even you who can handle so much are lonely.

    Was that the first chain change?

    Greetings Bernhard

  9. I hope you had a great quality time with your sister! The weather looked terrifying, I'm glad nothing serious happened ( blij dat ik niet jouw moeder ben 😋😂).. Overall this footage was a bit on the dark side though could admire the clear shots. I'm looking forward to follow you on the rest of your journey

  10. Fantastic video – such great filming and nice mix of music & commentary. I'm looking forward even more to our upcoming interrail trip to Krakow, the Tatra Mts and Slovakia 🙂 . I didn't catch the name of the town at 20:30 and castle at 21:20, and they don't come out in the transcript. Where are they?
