I just bought a new mountain bike – but it’s not really a mountain bike. I’d call it a fat commuter. [It’s one of these.](https://www.prioritybicycles.com/products/sauce?variant=40420849614925)

I think there is a problem with this bike, but it may be I’m simply not used to the behavior of contemporary mountain-style bikes.

The steering is acting odd. The bike does not want to self-stabilize. If I take pressure off the bars it tries to steer away from straight ahead. If the bike isn’t perfectly perpendicular to the ground the steering wants to go instantly to about 45 degrees. I don’t want to say the front wheel is “fighting” me, but it feels like that. This behavior is more pronounced at about walking speed, but is still present as fast as I can pedal.

I have a gravel bike and a hybrid, neither of which act like this. For the sake of argument, assume there is nothing mechanically wrong with the bike. The wheel isn’t bent and the fork in not backwards.
