Got the bike last year and the wheels over winter. Finally good enough weather to go for a test ride with the wheels, though a wet one.
Wheels are Ascent Polaris 69 with their raw finish, and the tires are Tufo Comtura Prima 28mm. Also switched to Campagnolo rotors because they’re way prettier (imo) and less prone to warping than Sram/Shimano.
Wheels are 69mm deep, 35mm external at the widest point, 32mm external where the brake tracks would be, 23mm internal. Despite being big boys, weight is 1540g with DT180 hubs and CX-Ray spokes. I think this depth looks just right on size L bikes and bigger. 40mm wheels look like box sections on big bikes. Had some crosswind today and it was no issue at all with these wheels compared to other wheels I’ve owned in the 60-80mm range (Enve, HED, DT, Reynolds, etc)
The Tufo Prima tires are notorious for being oversized. On these wheels they are 31.5mm wide. Roll super smooth and are as light as TT tires, despite having better puncture protection than the GP5k S TR. Mine are 223g each! They’re much gripping than the S TR, too.
