This ongoing Video Diary by myself John Neal, sometimes known as John Longcroft-Neal, as the whim takes me.
TODAY’S SUBJECT is a walk along the back streets in Nuneaton from my car service garage back home. I’m rambling on about the scenes en route and picking up litter as I go. Some shaky video and a lot of my full fat face but I’ll be trying to remedy that in future videos.
GENERAL STUFF
I am retired from two careers of primary school teaching when I was deputy head of a Middle School and Primary School, and as a self employed Chalkboard Artist from 2002 until I reached the grand old age of 65 in 2016. Since I retired it’s like a second childhood but with more expensive toys.

I play guitar and write songs and have written about 14 songs for the local BBC radio station. I run a weekly (weakly) evening Acoustic session at a local pub and have been doing so for 14 years now. I also started an afternoon acoustic session in a quite large cafe in Nuneaton. Both premises were former songwriting clients of mine.
Much of the music I use on this channel is taken from epidemicsound.com free to use on Youtube for a reasonable monthly fee, and sometimes I suffer you with my own music.

Iphone 15 Pro for camera, generally front facing so I can see myself in frame. Super quality especially if I keep the lens clean.

Mono pod is a Manfrotto Compact MMC3-02 and is very useful for getting high angles that look like low flight drone shots and so easy to carry on my bike along with the mini tripod.

Good morning John Neil here it’s Monday the 11th of March 2024 and I’m just wondering back home in the neighborhood I thought I’d take you along might pick some litter up as Well he wasn’t stopping was he yes it’s the main Railway line goes north south goes through n and uh to get around it look you got to go down here or up over the bridge over there that’s where we are yep that’s the place where that and usually around here
The been so close to the railway it’s a place of industrial units and what have you I’m going to wander the quiet way along oston road but the houses on there it’s sort of interesting terrist houses these are old ones and to get around the back you got these little Alleyways and two
Doors some have been attempted to sort out look at these two set at an angle can imagine back in the day there really really were quite nice houses I’m looking for a stone on the wall which usually has a date written on it but these have have been painted over
And you just can’t read what it says now this sign says crematorium but I think the crematorium is now at East away but this is one of the biggest cemeteries in the burough and has space for 36,000 Graves to The Cry of Starlings these houses on they all semi-
Detached there’s two together but they’re really quite large there have quite High ceilings and but many are turned into Flats I do believe but uh unless you stop and look you don’t always know I wonder if there’s a date on any of them I think they’re about 19 20s or
30s but they’re quite considerable Houses I’ve seen a big a few big vehicles come through there’s a huge coach and uh it’s taking no prisoners right the wer Wildlife Sanctuary ambulance and rescue center which is just this house it’s Bungalow actually in OST Road it’s been a an interesting place for a number of
Reasons that have been complaints by neighbors and yet it’s been well uh patronized by lots of people so um yeah around the back I know Jeff the man who runs it he just got lots of animals and this time of year he will start to get uh some fledglings injured animals or
Whatever so um there was a court case about closing him down which is a Pity if any had a decent U location somewhere out in the country Well you see the road how that pl’s getting out I’d hate to drive one of those Things suddenly we’re into some Wasteland unused Back To Nature because it crosses the flood relief which I’ve done in a number of my other videos and it has been raining quite a bit so this is all the water and this way which is not going into the river
Anchor and through the middle of Nan so yeah it’s doing its job let me just point out the artwork on the railings on this bridge look this quite intricate really and now it’s weathered and settled in I think it looks quite fascinating there’s a fondness for name in the
Streets after more exotic places CL is a lovely little village fishing Village in Cornwall in fact I missed the chance there’s a house back there in o Road called Celli house or just Celli um Tav way look see and Tieton Drive that’s the closest we’re going to get to somewhere that’s uh holiday
Like uh in rainy Nan right now then moving on I’m going to be on the uh Hinkley Road in a moment and I’ve got meit picking St I’m going to walk up um home Lane and see what I can see to pick up litter I’ve got a sneaking feeling
Somebody has been picking up litter as well I have competition oh can I avoid can I resist the temptation look it’s a Can one of our claims to fame was that the Entertainer comedian host Larry Larry Grayson is a man of this town of Nan and he used to live when he made his money uh along that way um yeah lovely guy and uh I’m uh I know one or two of the
Stories and uh actually know his nephew as well Mike this is the uh Hinkley road but it’s a bit wet and grim look it’s winter at this big thing wow quite a vehicle now over the road is a a tree that has been planted now you can see here
Here there are some lovely trees at the side of the road too I did a video I’ll show you the link about trees in this area and I just caught this one this one tree uh before it was cut down cuz it was quite spectacular and
But it was disease I understand and was therefore dangerous so they took it out and I’m wondering whether this is the remnant of where it was but God bless them they have put another Tree in its place yeah unfortunately I thought there would be stuff down here look there’s just loads of
It shall I pick it up I’ll give it a go woo that’s quite a bit of stuff there look and that’s just from from the bus stop down to the uh roundabout home Lane and Pinkley road so I’m going to cross over I’m on high Lane now this is my usual Jaun see1
Fine and within yards here we have it the famous little bag look at it the bustard oh and they’re very fond of going down here Chris packet I want to say something this all stuff that way as the litter get into the bushes I mean look at
This oh dear and to note that when I’m doing this lit picking yes I do it cuz it’s a good thing to do but it keeps me happy and I like making videos to be honest and uh have nothing else to do is I walk back
From dropping my car off now it might be the case there’s a couple of older folk coming down the point I want to make is this the youngsters I see to and from college never never to a person never say a thing about me picking up litter
Whereas older people will and there’s a couple going by here morning morning it’s a good job you’re doing thank you very much can I I’m just making the point that it’s it’s only the adults who ever say that to me all right I mean I like doing it cuz it’s worth doing yeah
Yeah yeah yeah but um all the kids are going by I have to think do most of the dropping of the litter yeah they they just had a nice chat with this gentlemen over the road all the ins and outs of living in Nan and uh much of which I’ve covered in
