As the Walking and Cycling Index reveals the latest assessment of walking, wheeling and cycling in Glasgow we meet an organisation that is cutting emissions as well as helping ease the pressure of the cost of living crisis in Scotland’s largest city.
The Walking and Cycling Index is the biggest assessment of walking, wheeling and cycling in urban areas in the UK and Ireland. It is delivered by Sustrans in collaboration with 23 cities and urban areas. Each city reports on the progress made towards making walking, wheeling and cycling more attractive, everyday ways to travel.

The in G to library is to help people um save money and reduce their consumption everything in our library is um donated to us and the idea is to yeah help help reduce waste and um provide access to useful things that people can use we got into using the bik trailer because we
Were looking at ways that we could expand around the city to provide access to tools for more people we were initially looking at trying to get a van but it was too expensive and not very practical for us as a small organization we ended up using the ebike trailer and
Because we looking for something that would be sustainable and tire work kind environmental aims but also something that would be easy for different people to use volunteers um don’t need license just a bit of training to use and it would be practical to get around the city center and around Glasgow where
We’re oper operating we use the bike trailer to run our collection and drop off service in kenning Park in the west and in Barfield in the East End the main benefits uh to using a bike over using a car uh to deliver the service are probably that we don’t have to worry
About our carbon emissions it also means that if I’m cycling or doing the service during rush hour I can use segregated cycle patter and and I don’t have to worry so much about um traffic it’s also uh just a like point of interest for um people using the service it’s like
Interesting to see bike trailer and like learn about the fact that we’re like using alternative modes of transport to deliver our service I definitely think that more um organizations could be using EC cargo bikes in the city I just think that they need to have more opportunities to test them out to make
Sure that they’re suitable for the business but also that there’s the infrastructure in Glasgow that can allow people to use them
