Denmark the town in Western Australia not the country. There is a lot of opportunity for trail riding in the area with several long distance trails converging on the town. So after a few days of goofing around on some of them to get the lie of the land I then put together a loop ride that would make for an epic birthday bash. By combining the Denmark – Nornalup Heritage Trail , the Munda Biddi and some cycle path along Ocean Beach Road I ended up with a 42Km loop ride that would take me through some beautiful country.
Morning it’s a cold autumn day here in Denmark Western Australia and I’m heading out on my mountain bike to ride for trails today in a 40 kilometer loop and first riding up the cycle path alongside Ocean Beach Road till it intersects with the Denmark normal up Heritage Trail which is an Rails to
Trails project a ride along that towards Walpole until it intersects with the Munda Biddi mounted bike trail which goes from Albany to Perth a ride down to greens pool and elephants rock then along the cliff top path to light speech and then follow the WoW trail from
Lights beach round to Ocean Beach and back home I hope it’s a great day it’s a bit gray I don’t think any rains forecast this morning so it should be a good day for riding [Applause] well I just turned off the cycle path and onto the Denmark normal up heritage
Trail to be confronted with a sign that says it’s closed only open to foot traffic I don’t know what that means I’ll give it a go and see how far I get yeah this is my sole purpose for coming down here really I hate to think that
I’ve made a 500 kilometer trip just to find the trail shop so we’ll see how we file we go well famous last words they but they did provide a route for pedestrians to get round which I was able to use to push the bike round so no if that’s just
Going to be it then all well and good anyway we’ll see what the rest of the track has to offer us but it’s really nice down here tall trees sound of the crickets cows in the background and a few birds in the trees mainly crows Magpies but few other birds as well
Really nice this is what it’s all about well I’ve just come off the Denmark normal up heritage trail and I’ve read your I’ve joined now the Munda Biddi trail but it looks like we’ve been spat out onto the southwest highway which is a very busy road down
Here and we’ll have to follow that for a couple of kilometres until the Munda Biddi heads off down to the coast so let’s hope we don’t end up as roadkill bloody busy road all right I’ll catch you later well thankfully I didn’t have to lie the wrong along the road there’s a little
Arrow pointing up and there’s a bit of single track now through the trees on the embankment on the side of the road which is pretty good it’s much more restful than dealing with the traffic that you can hear in the background so let’s have a little bit of fun in the woods [Applause]
Now being out on to Williams Bay Road and I’m cycling through Williams Bay National Park and hopefully we’ll get down to the coast pretty soon and see what this trip is all about well we’re here and this is the reason why we are here this is greens pool and elephants rocks
And you’re not seeing it on a very good day at the moment normally it’s beautiful on a sunny day with the bright blue sky yeah beautiful crystal-clear bluey green water the contrast of the rocks and the sand on the beach is absolutely stunning unfortunately today
Is a little bit on the overcast side and it’s looking a little bit less than ideal but it is up to my mind one of the most beautiful spots in Australia so many people bang on about Tasmania and how wonderful that is the great sudden of Western Australia I think is far far
Better it’s it’s beautiful down here it’s easy to access there’s hardly anybody comes here you know it is absolutely wonderful fantastic place to visit anyway we’d better get the show back on the road and I’ll be heading back along the coast along the cliff tops as a path and that’ll stop off at
Lights Beach and then on to Ocean Beach and then on to home so let’s crack on not a bad view for when you’re riding a well I’ve made its light speech it’s now about 15 K’s so I get back home that was a really really good bit of singletrack
It really was it’s nice to type switchbacks its ambitious it’ll have climbed and some exhilarating descent really good it’s probably the best bit of riding sacrifi feeling pretty tired now done 30 case and probably got ya about 15 more to do but a crack on I’ve always it won’t get
Done I’m cycling out past the wind farm down at Denmark the trouble with wind farms is built where it’s windy and it’s hard going anyway it’s nice track well marked out lots of fun well made it to the caravan park and had some cold drinks so a welcome drink Cheers
