Fisker is back in business, and its first model is an all-electric SUV called the Ocean — and we just spent nearly $70,000 of our own money to add one to our long-term test fleet. Over the next year, we’ll be putting our Ocean to the test, learning what it’s like to live with on a daily basis. In this video, Edmunds’ Brian Wong gives you an overview of the Fisker Ocean we bought, our initial impressions, and more.

  1. We're excited to add the Fisker Ocean to our long-term fleet and chart its growth over the next year and 20,000 miles. Is there anything you'd like to see us do with this new electric SUV? An ocean-to-ocean road trip perhaps? Let us know in the comments below!

  2. I had the opportunity to test drive the Fisker yesterday. I was surprised to see Fisker at a meetup at the Smithfield outlet mall in NC. The model I drove had a sticker price of about 73K. I really enjoyed the car although I wasn't blown away. I don't think I'm going to buy one yet as I have some concerns. First of all, it's way overpriced. I could go out tomorrow and buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for less than 50K and it's a nicer car. The electric cars in general are way out of line in their cost structure,
Secondly—and this is the primary reason I'm waiting—I have concerns that Fisker will even survive. They're not selling or producing a lot of cars at this point. Their stock is down to about .75 cents a share. They have very little cash and without an infusion they won't survive. So, if I go out and buy a Fisker it's highly likely that they won't exist in two or three years. So, where would I get parts or service if needed?
I'm certainly interested but I'm waiting for a while.

  3. Brian, did your car have 1.11 update? I noticed a post in Edmunds that a lot of software bugs are present. I am wondering what version of software is currently installed. thanks

  4. Not exactly cheap is it. Yhey have reneged on the affordability, so this won't sell in big numbers which may be an issue for the company trying to recover R&D costs and make profits.

  5. For 70 grand I could buy a used AMG Mercedes AND a used Range Rover. That thing is worth 35k tops. It’s got handsome exterior styling. But the interior looks cheap. Especially having an IPad for a center console and an iPhone max for a gauge cluster. Low rent. And the fact that it was sold without full functionality is inexcusable. Especially at 70k. Why would anyone settle for this kind of trash? No thanks. Dross

  6. why is the hvac that complicated? EVs need to focus on simple; not complex. Needless power users like the hvac detract from the vehicle imo. Reduce tiny electric motors (and the wires) and use simple, lightweight linkage. Think EV with wind up/down manual windows. OK, that is a bit extreme, but the point is eliminate unnecessary weight and complication.

  7. The number one mistake that every car company makes it’s not let make a great product for our customer. Let’s make a great product to change the world it let make a product to beat tesla get your shit together.
