Hello! This is my first (of many i hope) post here and Im looking for advice to buy my first real MTB.

I thank everyone for their time beforehand as Im sure this gets asked everyday and it’s a long post but here it goes:

This will be my first adult mtb and I will use it for pretty much everything while finding out what i enjoy more. City riding, light dirt roads, fire roads, gravel and some paths people use as trails here in the forest. Budget is low at 500€ (550$) and I hope to get some riding before I need to invest more.

Local ad selling a Canyon Grand Canyon 7 Don’t know year, I’ll have to check when I go to pickup.

Bargained it down to 600€(650$) which is a bit over my budget now, but Im wondering if it’s worth it going a bit over. I see that prices went dooown in both new and used so Im a little sceptical whether i should jump the gun yet.

I assume it’s this one [https://www.canyon.com/en-gr/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-7/3271.html](https://www.canyon.com/en-gr/mountain-bikes/trail-bikes/grand-canyon/grand-canyon/grand-canyon-7/3271.html)

What I like:

\-120mm air fork

\-148mm rear hub thru axle ( guess the frame can stay a long time)

\-Dropper Post

\-Decent brakes (MT400)

What i don’t like:

\-SX Eagle 12spd Eww, I consider swapping this to a deore setup when i wear it down, don’t know if possible/compatible

\-Expensive for my broke account

EDIT.1: Just as was about to post i saw another one so I’ll merge these 2

Trek Roscoe 7 2019. It’s definitely used and not stock as I see Sram derailleur and on the site its listed with Shimano only. Guy is asking 500€ but haven’t tried negotiating yet. I read that it’s an older model with slightly outdated geometry(?) and i see it has 141mm spacing. I don’t know if this is worse than 148mm or just different.

So with your superior knowledge, do I:

1) Buy the canyon at 600 and keep it stock to make up for the over-budget?

2) Make an offer on the trek for maybe 350(380$)?

3) Keep looking at the used market while saving a bit more money to get something better?

4) Don’t bother at all with the used market and get a lower spec but new bike.

Happy to join the gang fellas.
