One of the slowest starts to a paren stage I’ve seen which meant this was going to be a hectic finale with a new team on the world tour winners Podium KY was leading GC after winning stage one yesterday another Sprint stage opportunity for him to maybe extend that

Lead this is sometimes the crosswind stage or is typically build at that and we can have Crosswinds it’s pancake flat open roads in the fields that would have been good for someone like mads Pon with his strong team of rulers it would have meant nervousness for the GC Riders like

RIT Bernal even AOL Jorgenson but in the end we had headwind cross headwind so when the break or at least the neutral zone ended Anor tried a few times lot of Destiny no one else really helped him and so when live coverage started there wasn’t even a breakway which is very

Unusual for these sort of stages and here you can see the wind direction coming from the south at least that’s what I think and this race is heading south uh so pretty chill on the Pelon it was going to be a Sprint KY for fdj had

The chance to go into the yellow Jersey there’s not too much climbing in the stage only 12200 M yakobson if he’s going to win a stage here this is the one he could win so DSM feric post and elow chasing card would have hoped for a bit more crosswind or a difficult stage

Whereas someone like arva decin really pure Sprinter as we saw in the UA super fast in the easy stages chuda would have been hoping for a stage exactly like this and they got it and they got a great train with plumis Trenton and zyad for of a decline dele though decided he

Still banged up from the crash or was too hectic or too risky to contest the Sprints so he didn’t contest it and we were reawakened for people pressing on into villages with the road Furniture then they’d get back out of the village chill a little bit and then switch off

There were a couple of crashes today uh as is usually the case in these sort of stages unfortunately uh R going down mid pack maybe in the feed zone or because of it I think Donovan grandal there on the ground and then 5K till the intermediate Sprint 6 42 seconds on

Offer will Primo RIT go for it will he bother will he send the teammate up the road to take the seconds away rcoo blocked in in the middle of the pack here definitely looked like he wasn’t going to bother and to go for these bonus seconds given that it’s on the

Flat compared to yesterday there was the the uphill Sprint uh for the GC guys and schelm MOA was the only main GC guy going for it uh it was Danny Van Poppel for Borah Hans on the wheel of Pon who did the lead out for skel mosa but pedon

Steals quote unquote steals two seconds from skel mosa he he’s acting as a blocker to take seconds away from others looks behind him doesn’t see anyone but then with Van Popple coming on his right he just kicks again here and then skelm MOA shouts at him here he’s shouting to

Break and it’s too late B breaks too late and takes the two seconds away from uh from skel MOA will that matter in the end imagine if that matter matters on on stage eight just like in UAE to a l vanv but big everyone packed in like sardines

Uh overlapping wheels and then we coming into Road furniture or Villages we’ve got two 70° turns Mattis Michels goes down as well as uh Doran gon caught up I believe for daath a derer he’s an important part of Sam Bennett’s train and it’s the same teams on the front

Alberon to for Groves on the right hand side ARA for uh dear as well as Bora they got RIT there but he wouldn’t stay on that wheel for long he getting pinched off and because everyone’s fresh cuz it’s been such an easy day we got a full massive peleton who are ready to

Whack the last uh 10 km of this stage we got 270° turns Galore in the last 10K jenit on the left hand side niiko Den’s on the front there uh PL and dele chilling at the back so PL just deciding to to stay there which actually I think

Not a bad decision it’s better than being mid pack and getting squeezed in one of these 270° turns but now the roads open up progressively we’ve opened up into a I’d say a proper Road here and then they do a left right onto a highway or at least by European standards looks

Like a highway to me uh which opens up even further so there’s actually now space if you got a lead out train and you’ve not been wasting energy there’s space eventually to move up as DSM swing to the left hand side through the 3 km

To go Mark so now all the GC guys are safe but look at this wide run in and look where chor are bottom right hand side with a full train look where vimal Lisa by K for Koy bottom left hand side it’s Josh Tarling who’s pulling in front

For anyos for Egan beral but they’re not going for the Sprint he’s just keeping him forward for as long as possible here next to the two Sprint trains to keep him safe theal de cathlon uh jco going for Gran on this stage until this whole lead out which all looked like it was

Going to be on the right hand side as we look at it changes when Shuda absolutely smash it on the other side of the road look where they are now compared to J and VI Malisa bike ky’s gone no chance from that position with two k to go

Chuda hit it at the perfect time because Trenton’s just got to get them to this chicane coming up with 1300 met to go just he does a really strong pull Trenton’s been like top 10 top fing Sprints recently and they go over this uh highway bridge and here’s this

Chicane and you can’t move up from here like there’s all single file and then there’s another chicane with about 800 M to go one Vis meisa bike out man one of the van Dykes squeezes through that there’s no KY on his wheel and it’s actually I think stura second wheel he

Looks back sees no mads Pon in the green Sprint Jersey pulls off makes van Popple number six close the wheel of aeni actually I misspoke it’s aeni who’s there I believe number 42 and then there’s zyad decine and piy py always puts himself in a good position Tudor

Are chilling they’ve been able to keep decine relatively fresh in the last three CS they got a last man for him van pobl having to close down AI who’s very strong and then dein’s able to launch out of his wheel after an easy stage flat running no timer takes the big win

You see us zy to the left then swung back to Van Popples wheel Bennett and py are fighting for declines will py wins that battle he’s faster to that position eof I think was trying to lead out yobs on the left hand side he wasn’t there

Pedon was too deep Koy was nowhere and decline is just too quick wins this stage first World Tour win ever for chuda pro cycling as a pro Cony team the proon teams are winning a lot of World Tour races this year which is great to see different Riders different teams

Winning so kudos to them for a great lead out and execution by decline wins ahead of P gr and third and Van Tyson Bennett vanest Pon Aran saero rounding out the top 10 Sao for Bor is a funny one but here’s what deine had to say

After the stage so do it mean like to uh to win at this level yeah yeah it means a lot I think I’ve been close a couple of times and I was chasing uh a will to Victory and uh yeah it’s nice to to grab it like this it was like everybody could

See it was a great team performance we stayed really calm we have uh Mato uh in in our group and he he knew exactly what to do and he said we had to stay calm until the end and then he did an amazing pool and then I have the two duchies in

Front of me and I did an incredible incredible job yes today uh we have of course Mato in our group and uh we were sure that he could make it and for me it was like a a gamble I think iy would not

Have made it and uh he had a he had a good shot and went seventh and today was all uh all in for me so it’s really nice to finish it off in terms of GC Lawrence py goes into the yellow Jersey his first yellow line come on Lawrence let’s go

Ahead of Pon on the same time it’s just Place positions and koi in third will P you win GC overall in this race I’m not going to say no but we’ll see how fdj go on the TT tomorrow it’s got special rules make sure you tune in for that

Recap tomorrow but hope you enjoy the video see you then

  1. Great analysis. Very clear that the Tudor move up on the right on that wide section was super smart because when the road narrowed through those successive chicanes there was no comeback for the other sprint trains.

  2. I've been very impressed by the riding of Laurence Pithie so far this season. He gives it a go in every single race, and it's been an excellent debut for a World Tour rookie.

  3. Keep practising my english thru your video and my passion every raceday is a pure delight.

    Thanks for being

    Greeting from France mate.

  4. Mads thought the Bora rider was Roglic and therefore kicked again so he wouldn't take seconds but quickly realised that Roglic would never be able to contest Mads in a sprint like that and therefore couldn't be him

  5. Don’t know why I bothered watching the Eurosport “highlights” of the race, they skipped from about the 2km mark to the winner rolling over the line lol. Thank you for the quality highlight and analysis LR!
