I’m interested in upgrading our kid’s 16” Woom 3 to a 2 speed. The stock gear ratio (18×10) is very low and she’s spinning like a madwoman even on flats trying to keep up with her big sister. She is strong for her age (been on a pedal bike since she was 2) and I think could benefit from some gearing.
The newer Woom 3 comes with a 2 speed auto shift hub as an option, but it’s not sold separately. Prevelo, another kids bike brand, does sell what appears to be a very similar wheel as an upgrade:
One difference is that the Prevelo bikes have a 25×14 drivetrain, which is actually an almost identical gear ratio as the Woom, but obviously I’d need to move the 10 tooth cog from the original Woom wheel to the Prevelo hub. I’m not sure if they use standard cassette sized cogs though.
Anyone have experience with this? Or know of a source for these 2 speed hubs alone? I would be ok to rebuild the existing Woom wheel with a new hub if I knew where to source one.
