I am sjad and I am limitless I love cycling because it gives me the platform to compete against my peers at the same level and give me the chance to explore places I would normally go to if you haven’t picked up your bike in a long
Time go up and pick it up the Euphoria and the great feeling that you’ll get and the freedom you’ll feel is Just One of a Kind introducing Limitless things B cycling disability and parying program more clubs more facilities more opportunities for disabled riders most of us have been brought up with the
Idea that we live in a society that’s going to protect us when it’s a real hard Landing when people realize that they’re not going to get the kind of support we had always assumed was there for them Le a was always set up to take on David and Goliath kind of battle all
Really Keen to provide as much help as we can to those who need it e he good morning and a very warm welcome to you all for day two of the 2024 British cycling National track championships we are back in the home of the national championships at the national Cycling
Center here in Manchester and I am absolutely delighted to be bringing you the full live stream of action today for day two of the national championships the crowd is already coming into the valdrome it is hotting up nicely lovely and warm in here and Riders are already
Down in the track Center getting ready my name is Joanna rousel I will be your commentator for the full day today taken over from the wonderful Marty McDonald yesterday who will be back tomorrow I will be joined by Charlene Jones later on and John Gorda I believe so some
Excellent guests joining me on the live feed uh all day today so like I say we will have all the action live we have a total of nine titles to be decided at the national track championships here today we’ve got a morning session the racing will start at half past 9 so just
A few minutes time and we will get underway with the women’s Sprint qualifying we’ll be racing till gone 3 p.m. for this first session then we’ll be back at 6:00 p.m. this evening for the final session where there are more four titles to be decided so absolutely
Action-packed day and as I said back at the home of the national championships at the national Cycling Center recently refurbished in the last couple of years my first time here since it’s been refurbished but this valam was Britain’s first indoor olympic sized cycling track opened back in
1994 home to the Great Britain cycling team multiple Olympic and Par Olympic Champions who trained here over the years many of whom will be competing at the national championships today we’ve got so much action to bring you and I am super super excited just seeing a few
Closeups of some of the Riders warming up in the track Center at the moment the first of our events will be the women’s Sprint and we start off with the women’s Sprint qualifying so we’re just seeing Georgette Rand there for the V Club Lincoln she’s just warming up on the
Rollers in the track Center we’ll start off with the women’s flying 200 MERS to qualify for the women’s Sprint in a few moments time I will be sending you down to track Cen to to Charlene Jones who will be bringing you uh interviews and insight from the track
Center as well as joining me up in the commentary box later on so I’m looking forward to seeing who Charlene is able to speak to and what she’s going to have to bring you today very very exciting day of racing and as I said the crowds
Are also getting in here as well and we’re coming down to Charlene in a few minutes now here you go Charlene I’m here in track center with the track in the background the Finish Line with our national Sprint Champion Pete Mitchell absolutely phenomenal riding yesterday Pete can you tell us a little
Bit about your comeback because this is your first British Nationals in how many years yeah it’s been been five years since I’ve raced which is sounds like a very long time so uh yeah it’s a it’s crazy how time passes but um yeah I mean basically it’s amazing to be back I
Guess everyone’s been focusing on the kind of comeback and I didn’t really set out to have a comeback I just started kind of training to you know to keep fit and and uh I enjoy riding my bike and as I got faster I thought oh maybe it’s
Worth worth going for this so yeah crazy that’s crazy considering that you’re a coach yourself you’ve been on the Great Britain program before and it’s really really it’s just inspiring to watch because you’re not a full-time athlete are you no so so I I was a full-time
Athlete I wrot with Great Britain for 12 years uh and then and then stopped my time with them as I said about about four years ago I then became a full-time coach working with you know a variety of different Riders uh done that for the
Last three years and then I kind of you know start get back into it but I very much had retired I did my Facebook retirement post you know like it was it was official and uh and then yeah then I just kind of genuinely um have been
Riding my bike cuz I missed it and and enjoy riding my bike and it kind of has gone from there so it’s been around like a normal life like the structure is so different to when I was when I was on the team and coming here every day and
With the support of all the you know the support staff that the British cycling have um whereas now I’m just sneaking out of the garage in the evenings when the kids are in bed and and smashing the W bike so it’s very different but yeah
I’m I’m I’m amazed at how well it’s gone like this has taken me Way Beyond the form that I had you know when I was 20 doing this which is crazy really but um yeah like maybe I found something maybe I don’t know honestly some things I just
Don’t understand I think yeah it’s it’s so inspirational because you’ve been there before you’ve done hours and hours of training weekly now kind of how many hours are you managing to get on the bike with your family life and of course your black line coaching yeah so
I mean my weeks basically look like two 1 hour what bike sessions two 1our gym sessions in the garage and then I come to the track once a week so so total training time is four hours plus a trip to the track whereas when I was full-time I was doing probably double
That roughly certainly a lot more track you know on on track three times a week four times a week so it makes me think like you know do do kind of was I always over training is it just that this is the most Rel laxed I’ve ever felt around
Training like there’s no performance targets pressures expectations you know it makes it really easy in that sense that when when training’s done it’s easy just to relax and maybe that’s what it is but yeah like it is it’s very different it seems to be working and I hope it continues to work yeah
Definitely and when we spoke earlier you were saying that you would have loved like a top eight and in qualifying and you were like top you were fourth and then you went on to win it with your tactics how much do you think your coaching is taken apart
In you I’m you’re coaching yourself so how much you think that’s played a part um well I mean going back to qualifying that was such a tight qualification I think if I’d been 300s slower I would have been three places slower so it was a really really close field so you know
If you ran that event again it could easily Go a different way it’s very very close I talk about tactics a lot I definitely feel like my depth of knowledge around tactics has grown through talking about it so much with different riders in different situations and coaching like I think that’s been a
Benefit I think I have been training for a long time now so I I guess I can make good judgment calls on when to have an easy week when to rest when to miss things but so it’s definitely help like I feel very comfortable within tactics
In in a match Sprint which is great you know and I don’t necessarily think yesterday was the greatest tactics I’ve ever ridden in my life but I’ve just finally got the legs to back it up in this field whereas when when I was racing before I was you know a little
Down the order so yeah like I guess it’s just a mixture of everything um but something obviously went right and you know it’s it’s a fantastic result for me and one that I really didn’t expect I mean it was just brilliant to watch and coming from Sprint as well back in the
Day for me watching you just not panic as well when you were at the front not trying and get a massive Gap and just you know you don’t want them to be too far back so they can rush and it was just beautiful tactics from you so well
Done also can we touch on how much it meant to you with obviously your family we’re here yeah well my kids are my daughters are six and they got twin boys who are 5 years old so I haven’t raised since the beginning of 2009 and they
Tell me they can remember it but they’re only two months old so they don’t remember it so to actually um you know get out with them watching see them cheering in their stands they probably will remember this like it’s such a special moment if I hadn’t have decided
To enter this and you know I really only decided to enter well six seven weeks ago when I realized I was going quite well they would have never seen me race you know i’ just been like a picture on the wall so that’s really special like
So um yeah it was a wonderful day like my wife parents you know it was like going back when I was 18 Again like everyone traes around the country to watch me race so um yeah it was a wonderful day and one that I’ll definitely remember as a very special
Moment thank you so much Pete congratulations for yesterday now we are going to get on with today’s racing thank you so much Charlene for that incredibly insightful interview there with Peter Mitchell he was The Stand Out Rider from yesterday’s championships winning that individual Sprint title as we’ve just heard despite
Officially retiring a number of years ago father of three training in between working and school runs and everything else that comes with that busy life that you don’t um you know not no luxuries of being a full-time bike rider anymore so fascinating win that was yesterday and I
Think uh one of the most popular but that was yesterday that was the men’s individual Sprint but today we are going to kick off proceedings with the women’s individual Sprint qualifying so we’re just seeing a few inches here of the track Center Riders have been in here very early this morning from you
Know more than an hour before now getting ready doing their warm-up routines each Rider will take to the track individually to ride the flying 200 M which is the qualification for the women’s individual Sprint this purely seeds our Riders going through through into the rest of the
Competition and our first Rider is up on the track this is Elizabeth Bron and you just heard the Bell there so she is underway for her flying 200 M we will get a time check at the 100 m that was 6.4 just seeing up on our live
Timing screen there and Over The Line it is a 13211 for our first time of the day just seeing a replay there you could see her going over the white line in the First Banking that’s the 200 met line that’s where the clock starts there is the 100 met line at the
End of the back straight then coming all the way to the finish here 13211 is Elizabeth Bron’s time we’ve already got our second round rer up on the track this is Rebecca Howard from the Glasgow Track Racing Club she’s going very high on the track
Here the key is that you want to be able to utilize the full height of the banking so despite the fact that you’re only timed for 200 MERS in this qualifying it’s actually a very long effort you’re up on the track for a total of three and a half laps you come
Up in the back straight come round to the home St you see three laps to go you’ve got all that time around the top of the track to build up your speed here you can see out the saddle down the home straight hearing the Bell over the
Line and the clock will start on this white line here now our clock is now live our second Rider is going for her 200 meter time 6.0 at the 100 meters and Over The Line we have a 122 so Tak a whole second off the fastest time that we started
With Rebecca Howard is our new leader just going to see a few replay shots of her R here we’ve got a total of 17 Riders taking to the start today for the women’s Sprint qualifying the top 15 of those Riders will qualify automatically for the second round but 16th and 17th
Will need to ride the first round racing against each other and then we can progress through the competition meline silcock is our next Rider to come up onto the track she’s just gone through with two laps to go so she’s got one more lap up the top of the track
Here building up her speed this is a time trial so rers will be trying to get as AR of as possible winding up a big gear of course not from a standing start you can ride a bigger gear than you might in other events you can see her out the there
Down the home straight using the full height of the banking as she swoops down over that start line we’ve got a 5. 847 is our 100 meter time and Over The Line 11.8 so she has taken three1 of a second off the previous best time set by Rebecca Howard in Heat number
Two seeing 108 on the screen there but I think it is 11.8 going off the scoreboard here in the vome that I can seea now we have our fourth Rider taking to the track Arian Edmunds of Team inspired she’s a commonwealth games medalist from the 2022 Commonwealth Birmingham Burmingham come off games
Track cing of course took place in London representing Wales she will know this track very very well just seeing her now out the Saddle Again swooping down that home straight using that full transition here as she comes into the banking the clock starts there
The 100 met we got a 5.4 she’s 310 up already and it’s 11.46 over the line taken over 8/10 of the previous best time so we are seeing these 200 meter times come tumbling down very very quickly it’s lovely and warm here in the vam this morning early start for these Riders
They’re signing on close at 8:30 a.m. this morning so they will have to be in by that time ready for a 9:30 a.m. start we SE 110 for reference the national record for a British rider for the flying 200 meters is set by ktie Marchant who at a time of
10.49 five in Japan actually that’s not up to date that was that was the British record the British record was of course held by Emma fukan who smashed that to pieces at the world championships in Glasgow so slightly out ofate information there I do apologize but we have our next ride
On the track now is Kirsty Johnson she’s a three time Scottish Champion representing the Edinburgh Racing Club her sister will also be competing in this competition today and let’s see her 100 meter time that is 5.6 and let’s what we see come over the line here is 11.5 seeing
11483 on our live timing screen actually so time on your screens there just being rounded up ever so slightly but 11483 looks like the official time the women’s qualification the fastest next up is Lucy Grant another one of our Scottish Riders she took seventh place yesterday in the
500 meter time trial the time of 35444 that is the two laap time trial starting from the Starting Gate two laps around the bottom full gas back in Action today for the women’s Sprint and she’s up now for qualifying she is about to come around
For the bell and there you go out the saddle down the home straight ready to stop the clock on the 200 meter line this time around there we go was a 5.8 at the 100 meter line and let’s see how she does over the line here 11.7 on your screen there
11729 on our live timing I’m joined Now by Charlene who’s dashed up from the track center after that wonderful interview with Pete Mitchell thank you for coming and joining me Charlene it’s great to be here and uh and commentating on this event that I’ve done a few times myself so looking at
The rider here on our screen Christina Smith she’s trying to get as close as she can to the banking to get as much height as possible so that then she can Propel herself down and it’s all about getting the line right isn’t it Joel like I feel like when you are a track
Sprinter you are training on one track but you could for this Rider it’s glad go it’s completely different to this one the line is completely Different she’s at the Saddle now come round down to that 200 M line where it starts the clock yeah our clock is started we’ll get the time check at the 100 m Mark here so we’ve got a six so it’s actually a 5991 on our live timing
And let’s see over the line here 12153 is her official time good right there looked smooth in the replay there you it’s amazing to see all the sprinters get nice and low bending those elbows it’s all about the aerodynamics and uh getting into that position isn’t it yeah
And the challenge there as you will well know is being able to put out the power whilst also being in that aerodynamic position because most of us can Crouch down on the bike if we really have to for a few seconds but maintaining that position whilst you’re also putting out
Potentially over a th000 watts is is the challenge isn’t it yeah definitely we’ve got Rider number three on the track now Anna barl this is our eighth heat out of 17 Riders who are taking to the start today she’s looking really comfortable on the track trying to get as close to
The barrier as possible out the saddle now looks like a massive gear she’s on there because she’s actually going really fast but the legs are going really slow yeah can be very deceptive in these flying 200s W as all ride huge gears just going to see her 100 met time there is a
6229 and let’s see over the line here Lun for the line 12.65 these championships is like we’ve ridden these championships so many times Joanna and it’s all about trying to get a personal best isn’t it yeah so huge opportunity for any Rider to try and break a personal best today and um I
Think you spoke about this yesterday but how hot it is here in the fadr which as a track cyclist they love as a commentator up in the stands maybe not quite so much but definitely for the Riders this really helps doesn’t it the the warm conditions yeah it it generally
Depending on what the weather’s like outside it can make the the air temperature the the air density air pressure air pressure help me out the air pressure thinner which means it can cut through the ear the the air easier yeah uh oh beautiful position here from Emily bures who’s on the
Track she’s so close to the edge she’s almost touching the barriers that is scaring me Y and this is the line that you were talking about charling as we just come dropping off the height of the banking there key not to go uphill as you come into the start of this of this
Time portion of the event down the back straight already at full speed it’s a 5945 at the 100 m Mark and let’s see that 200 m time 12 12.78 we’ve had a lot of riders around that 12 second Mark a few riders that have breaken that 12 second Mark fastest
Time so far is 11.46 though it’s all about you know selecting that gear and actually the 200 m is a little bit it’s long it’s a longer effort than you think because you’ve got the buildup to it so you might see some sprinters aiming to absolutely smash the start their first
100 met split is so fast but then they just they just hit a brick wall after that because they’ve maybe spent too much energy in their buildup yeah it’s not just this 11 to 12 second effort that we’re seeing on our timing it’s a you know three and a half laps on the
Track you get taken up in the back straight you’ve got all that buildup you’re putting out a lot of power I mean in in these images right now it’s deceptive but she will be putting out a lot of power through those pedals right at the top of the track tring to build
Up all this speed and she will hear the Bell this time and this is the all important line You’ spoken about Charlene trying to get this exactly right going downhill all the way to that 200 me line yeah Georg rant here on the track absolutely flying down the back
Stet maybe not as aerodynamic position as we’ve seen before but she does look like she’s going for a fast time here wow 11.1 61 in second position so far so that is our second fastest time so far our fastest this time is ran Edmunds of Team inspired set a time of
11.46 but Georgette ran they’re getting very close with that time very very impressive next up on the track is Iona M another one of our Scottish Riders another one of our Riders representing team inspired that will know this track very well as well as the track up in Glasgow this a Chris hoy
D go and tell me Joanna like you trained on this track day and day out for years and years and years does it make a difference when you have a race at that track that’s an excellent question I think it’s really interesting when you’re used to coming into a Val every
Day and then you come in on race day and things look different the track has been rearranged there the the sounds are full of crowds and it can it can feel quite unfamiliar but you have to sort of pick pick points in the batt dram to sort of
Anchor you and you know you still know where you’re going to start this line as she is doing there you still know exactly what you’re doing when you’re on the track you know the blinkers are on and you’re ready to go so over that 200 met line down the back straight let’s
See that 100 met time now it is a 5.5 64 so she’s just outside the fastest time so far can she better at here 11121 brilliant time there really got into that aerodynamic position with those bent elbows they’re almost their chins almost touched in the handlebars
You can see she’s obviously able to get into that aerodynamic position and keep the power as you said earlier on it’s uh it’s quite a skill and we’re rattling through these Riders on to Rider Number well the 12th Riders take the track now it’s Stephanie Hall Rider number
34 so we’ve got just six Riders to go 17 riders in total they will all progress through the competition the top 15 will automatically qualify for the second round but number 16 and 17 will have to race off against each other in the first round to decide the winner of that to
Take forward 16 Riders to the next phase of the competition you can see down the back straight there out the saddle getting on top of that huge gear out the Saddle Again round the banking there is the Bell down the home straight using those transitions here cutting that banking over the 200
Meter line the clock has started down the back straight let’s see that time at 100 m and we’ve got a 5.7 down that home straight luning for the line and it is 11.72% something that you then don’t repeat throughout the competition because you’ve got the match Sprints you
Got that head-to-head it’s all about the tactics so this is all about your you know your pure power your speed how well you can technically ride the track get in the a position but then once you’ve done this and you seated for the competition it all changes doesn’t it
Yeah it’s completely different it’s like training for two different events you need to get well you want to be in the top four so that you’ve got one less ride in the legs heading on to the the competition however yeah it’s it’s it’s difficult because you’ve got to train
For the 200 MERS but you might not be as good at the tactics so it depends what you’re going to practice and training what you’re going to focus on so we’ve got Anna Whitworth hay here up on the track now just hearing the Bell she was eighth yesterday in the 500
Met time TR here she is on the track for the 200 M qualifying for the women’s Sprint over the line at the 100 m Mark there is a 5.7 let’s see if she can improve on that as she goes over the line is 11770 so seventh place there so far brilliant to
See all these Young Riders take to the track this Nationals has really been about H it’s been about the the youngsters and also uh our uh our retired riders coming back we had a I had a little chat yesterday with Marty about a about a potential comeback I’m
Not sure if I heard it I did yeah I I had the stream on in the background um whilst I was working and I I did catch the bit where you said that you would fantasy a try of it was it a team pursuit or team Sprint it was a team
Pursuit you said you were going to do the starts I said I’ll do the first four laps and you can do the rest very ambitious can imag if it was if it was the same distance but with two people yeah I think we could do that I
Think I could maybe hang on for the last three ke yeah I don’t I could promise I could be particularly fast right Heat number 14 on the track now it’s Sylvia Mist another one of our Scottish Riders representing the Glasgow track racing club and she is underway we’re going to
See what time she gets the 100 meter mark and it is a 5.7 just two t0 down on our quickest time so far can she prove on that towards the line 11. 634 so fifth fastest so far these times are going to start to drop as we get further on in the competition
And uh oh we can see there was a big effort down the back straight there that little head tuck just oh trying to get as much power out the bike and we continue moving on so our 15th Rider take the track is our Welsh Rider here Amy Cole she is better known
Perhaps for being a tandem pilot she is a world champion in the tandem team Sprint a pilot for Lizzie Jordan but here she is on the solo bike taking to the track for the women’s Sprint qualifying representing the Wales Racing Academy there she’s looking really good that round the banking smooth out the
Saddle now trying to get on top of her big ear she will be so used to riding those massive gears on the tandem so that’s probably why we can see her trying to churn around that big gear strength lot of strength indeed 5716 over the 100 m and it is an
11.55 so our fifth fastest time so far we’ve got a lot of riders in that in that 11 second sort of 115 116 117 so she’s just overtaken a few Riders there that were around that 116 117 Mark just two Riders left to go fifth
Place so far for Amy Cole a guarante the top Seven now up on the track is number 41 Sarah Johnson we had her sister Kirsty Johnson already up this morning imagine racing with your with a sibling against a sibling well that’s like elanar Barker isn’t it and that was so good to see eler Barker and me marer
In that team Pursuit team winning gold wasn’t it that was the first time they’ve ridden together yeah championships in Glasgow last summer year to go before the Olympics and they’re both team Pursuit world champions so gosh that was spectacular indeed now Sarah Johnson comes over the 200 meter line there and the clock
Starts down the back straight tucked into the aror position that see the time of the 100 met mark it is a 5.9 67 what can she do in these last few meters here Ling for the line 12.1 0 so our 12 fastest time so far 17 when watching H the the sprinters
Buildup some I remember you used to see sprinters creeping around the top so slow and you’re going to see come onto your screen in a moment that exact I mean it’s so slow that it gives you chills thinking get pedal pedal so this is Lauren Bell representing team
Inspired she is one of our world championship medalist from the world championships in Glasgow last summer very much trying to get her spot in the Olympic team for Paris this summer she was fourth yesterday in the 500 meter time trial and back up bright and early this morning for this women Sprint
Qualifying can see how already building up a lot of speed down that back straight round the banking here here’s the Bell out the saddle cutting down the banking there over that 200 meter line and the clock starts she’s turning a huge gear here holding a very Arrow position we’ve got a
5366 over 100 m what can it be over 200 and it is a 10.84 five she is our fastest qualifier and she is the first R to dip under that 11 second barrier how special is that Charlie I mean any r that you’re you’re dipping under that 11 Mark is pretty
Special uh we’ll see what Raiders have to to show after that it’s going to be tough to beat but we do have the reigning world champion still to come and we’re not sure what kind of form these Raiders are going to be on at the moment because they’re going to be
Tapering for for the for the Olympics so and and potential potentially aiming to get into the squad so yep so these are our standings for the women’s Sprint qualifying that concludes the qualification this morning so yeah there’s just 17 Riders taken to the start in the end and it is a
10.84 for Lauren Bell who was topping the standings there around Edmonds with 11046 and I own with 11.1 21 that’s your top 10 Riders on the screen there top 15 automatically qualify for the second round but 16th and 17th will race against each other in what we’re calling the first round of
Racing that will come after the men’s point which we’re about to have so they have got a little bit of time to rest and recover we will have to have that ride off to decide who is going to take us through into the second round of competition points
For it’s nice to see some shots of the track Center where Riders are preparing for their their Heats and all it looks like there’s a lot of points race competitors on the screen there just getting used to just getting warmed up yeah so next up we have the men’s points race
Qualifying we will have two Heats for this event that is because we have enough competitors entered in that means we need to go to qualifying Heats and we will have the finals later on today so just seeing there will parot on your screen Rider number 94 he is the defending
Champion last year’s silver medalist was William tidball and bronze was Josh Charlton so got qualifying Heat this morning six laps with six Sprints top 12 will qualify for the final that is because the track limit for a bunch of races is 24 Riders and we’ve got more than 24 entries so we
Have to have two qualifying Heats we got qualifying heat one up now then we will go back to the women’s Sprint have that first round that we just mentioned for 16th versus 17th Place then we will come back to men’s points Racing for qualifying heat to think they’ve got a
Bit of time to recover because they’ll be up um far later on this evening for the points race final which will be 30 km so half distance this morning for qualification yeah we’ll be seeing Riders you know I was going to say try to hold back but last year’s points
Qualifying was absolutely brutal H they really went for it from the start so you’ll have some endurance Riders wanting to rip the legs off the sprinters and um some Riders just like a really hard race so maybe they want to open open up the system open up the legs
This morning H so that they know that they’ll be ready for tonight yeah that’s a really good point so these are endurance Riders a lot of them will be racing on the road as well they’re well used to you know long hours on the bike
So it it seems like a big ass to have a points race qualifier in the morning and a final in the evening 15 kmers this morning 30 kmers this evening but actually like you say they they used to putting the hours in on the bike and um
I’m expecting this to be a tough race it’s the top 12 to qualify there’ll be a few people like you said they’ll want to open up their legs they’ll want to put a b bit of effort in sort of see how they feel depending how you’ve come into a
Championship you might have tapered you know you might have backed off your training or or some might be training through but either way I think when you’ve got an evening race I mean you’ll know this from when you were racing charlot it can be a very long day
Waiting to race in the evening so by having a qualification event in the morning you know wakes you up opens up the legs gets you fully fully warmed up ready to go and you know sort of soaking up the atmosphere as well of the Championships there’s no surprises this
Evening when you come into this very warm Manchester valad Drome yeah it’s it’s an important part of the day I mean I’m sure the Raiders would rather not do qualifying but um but it’s good training as well so we’ve got 17 riders in this heat with the top 12
Progressing yes you I guess in in the qualifying you can kind of sus Riders you can either hide in the bunch and just try to qualify not show any of your tactics or you can you can just go for it and if you’re if you know that there are very strong riders
In in the bunch then it’s it’s going to be important that you try things yeah and I think working out which Wheels to follow working out who is who is clearly on good form coming into these championships and any exposure to racing at this level you know as a track Rider
You know you might be at your local track doing your track League you don’t get exposure to some of the best riders in the world that will be at these championships so any opportunities to race against these Riders is always really valuable definitely we’ve still got Raiders just
Getting into position to start you can see got Ben Wiggins here number 129 just coming to the start on the blue band he will be behind William perrot oh and we’ve blown the whistle and we’re off and Ben is just still getting his foot clipped in but we’re good to
Go we’re going to start off with a rolling lap a neutralized lap to begin with there are 60 Laps on the board once the commissaires are happy that the whole group is together we ready to get underway we will hear the gun fired and the racing will start
You we go you’ve got some interesting bars handlebars in the in this race we can see there number 31 Reese Edwards kind of has it’s almost like a road bar with the tops that you can just rest your hands on uh really interesting these have come back into
Play recently but I’m not sure just for Comfort yes so for any fans of track cycling equipment and the aerodynamics there is a huge amount of research and development that goes into these things I’ve also caught will perrot’s handlebars I’ve also caught my eye so wait wait for some sort of closeups
Right number 994 is William per our defending Champion there is some really interesting exciting kit on display here at these championships it’s really great to see Junior Riders getting stuck into this type of racing we’ve got reys Edwards from train sharp Dev team it’s his first Nationals he’s come from Scotland and
He’s uh he’s the silver silver at the Scottish Junior points race so um he’s good he’s good at the old points race we’ll see how he gets on in the in the elite standings yeah well you mentioned Juniors racing in the senior categories so are certain Finley Tarling people might have heard
Of certain Josh taring is of course um making a huge impact on the road scene for team inos and uh his younger brother Finley taring is here still a junior but he will be competing number 118 we can look out for him but yeah it’s a huge opportunity like you’re saying you know
You’re used to these championships and if if you are a junior Rider in that sort of last year as a junior so you might have had your 18th birthday you might not but it’s an opportunity to step up and try and race against the senior Riders and understand what that
Level of competition is yeah there’s not that many sports that you get to to merge all the the age groups in and it really brings on the the level of the junior racing as well the fact that they can race against older stronger more experienced Raiders very very valuable number 31 as
You already mentioned re said was just opening up a small gap on the front there stretching out the legs maybe yeah it can be quite a good thing to do when you’re in a bunch race and you you know just put a little bit of pressure on see
If you do have to open up any gaps from behind it’s not a big attack but it’s just slightly testing the legs and there is the Bell so this is Sprint lap and we being led out by William Suter there number 108 down the back straight number 118 Finley Tarling
Is on his wheel and we are going to have Sprint points available on the line this time salta will take it maximum Five Points to him it’ll be three points down to Finley Tarling then two and one we’ve got a little split in the bunch there with one two three four five
Ahead wondering if they’re going to stay there out of trouble yeah so we’ve got a s little Gap opening up here for our first few Riders so just a little gap opening up after that Sprint but not quite worth pushing on at the moment and we are will come back
Together Joe through 48 laps to go there Joe if H if you were riding a points race what would what would you do so in this situation with two in the same day I think you can’t not think about the second ride you know you want to be able
To be in that final and I think I would go in with the tactic of try and get some points on the board early make sure that you there’s 17 Riders here and 12 qualify so not many are going to miss out if you’ve got some point you know if
You get some in the bank in that first Sprint pretty much job done follow the wheels so I think very sensible from those Riders there that scored points early on is William Suter Finley Tarling David Brey and it was Ben Wiggins who took that one point for fourth over the
Line so we got four riders with their names on the scoreboard confirmation there on the bottom left hand side of your screen of results of Sprint number one of six a lot of riders in that field with zero points at the moment though so work to do already halfway through to our next
Sprint it’s difficult as well when you know that you don’t have a Sprint so if you’re more of an endurance Rider you might want to attack and try and get a gap on the field and try and get get a lap that’s going to be your best chance
We and we see that actually in in World level is we do have points race Champions that do not have a Sprint because they’ve just taken two laps on the field yep so probably worth explaining so there’s points available on the line every 10 laps in the Sprints
5 3 two and one but if you gain a lap you get 20 points so you can potentially um rocket yourself right up that field with a 20 points for a lap game however as you say Charlene F will be why so there’ll be certain riders that are
Known for not being as strong in the Sprint that we’ll try and that tactic and normally better to wait later on in the race to do that particularly in a longer event like this evening 30 km you know you’ve got going to have a lot of
Tied legs out there towards the end but in this qualifying event a little bit harder to do but you can see now rers are getting in position for this Sprint we’re going to get the Bell this time and here we go Sprint is very much underway down the back straight out the
Saddle there rers justing for position just coming around the outside there trying to get the points on the line is he going to do it yes Archie Fletcher takes the maximum points there we’ve got number 51 who was also up there Nathan Hardy we’ll wait for the confirmation of
All the points winners very shortly after the Sprint like that it can sometimes be a great time for those riders that don’t have Sprints to attack the field because the sprinters are going to be really really tired and we can see here that’s exactly what’s happening they’ve kept the Pace High
They’re not wanting to to let anything come down to the last minute to qualify so we’ve got a little Gap the first the top four Raiders here yeah we’ve got William Perot here our defending Champion we’ve also got Ben Wiggins there in third wheel number 129 number 47 is Michael Giller in
Individual Pursuit national champion from yesterday catching his opponent in the final so we know he’s on incredible form and this is a very strong group that is making a move now yeah very strong if they decide to work together it looks like they are then they’re
Going to they’re going to get those 20 points we’ve also got Kier Gaffney as well on the screen there results are Sprints two of six so Finley taring and Williams Suter scoring again having scored in the first set of Sprints and that is the standing after Sprint two of
Six so is William Suter our winner of our first Sprint now with six points Finley tling on five Arie Fletcher on also on five and Nathan Hardy on four but this is a really exciting group of who are up the track now and they are working very well together four Riders
Almost a sort of perfect lineup there to have that number of riders working together isn’t it Charlene I mean it’s a team Pursuit isn’t it Joe uh we’ve got four Riders and you can see there Kier GNE is is feeling like he wants to gain from being in this group he’s not taking
Many turns at the front Ah that’s what I’d be doing when especially when you’re in company like this you know you want to just be taken round uh the the bunch behind is chasing though they’re not wanting them to take that lap so at the moment I’d say they’ve got
About a quarter of a lap if that so we’ve got the the advantage of being in the valam here the stands and we can see the full track so we’ve just had the Bell go for these Sprint points we do have four Riders away who are working
Well together William per is heading up this group of four at the moment number 94 in the blue skon is about to come over the line and take the maximum points there for a sprint number three of six second over the line was number 47 Michael Gil our individual Pursuit
National Champion they just carried on a little bit there realized though not everyone is quite as Keen swings at the track swings back down again now this is this decision making point of the race we’ve got we’ve lost this group of four that was working so well together but
They do still have a gap over the rest of the field we’re down to three now Kia Gaffney has gone unfortunately Ben Wiggins is still there William per is there and Michael G is there what a set of three names we’ve got there Charlene yes definitely with Bunch racing it is
Important to almost stay out in front stay out of trouble and uh that’s exactly what they’re doing they want to to qualify and and and stay in a s relatively safe position so we’ve got the bunch coming round still chasing them but they’re working really well together it’s almost like an Unwritten
Rule sometimes okay we’re going for it it looks like they’re they’re wanting to expend lots of energy yeah so at the moment with them being away at least they can ride at their own pace they can that they’re not you know responding to the ABS and flows
Of the bunch just a confirmation of results of Sprint number three of six on your screen though William peret who is in the blue on your screens now took the five Michael Gil the three Kia Gaffney took the two and Ben Wiggins taken the one point I think Ben Wiggins has scored
In all three Sprints so far so very consistent riding there from our Junior Madison World Champion Ben Wiggins and got a father who was quite good at bike racing as well so I think if you if your name is Wiggins and you’re on the track you’re always going to have eyeballs on
You people ke to be on your wheel and a mother by the way with an insane Sprint so absolutely he’s he’s got good jeans and he’s obviously loving his bike racing which is great to see certainly is so it is three leaders at the moment who are at the head of the
Field they have laed a couple of riders so it can be slightly confusing to see who is where on the track but the Comm are doing an excellent job in track Center of keeping track of things for us so we do have our three Riders who are
Leading at the moment they are here on your screens now Ben Wiggins Michael Gil William perret are our top three we’ve got 22 laps of racing to go and they have got about a third of a lap to gain the lap on the back of the field but the field
Is split to bits at the moment we have got Riders everywhere the Bell goes again for the next Sprint points available at 20 laps to go William paret swings up looks around sees there’s just there’s two riders that are still with him at the moment Ben Wiggins on the
Front it looks like they are going to not contest the Sprint but ride through it and continue to work well together this is of course just the qualifying we’ve got another bike race to come this evening so you want to qualify as safely and as with a little effort as possible
Hopefully yeah I mean it’s it’s difficult what’s happened here because we’ve got three riders in front of the field taking all of the points so if it was me and you’re behind those three Riders I would just sit up in the bunch and then just go for the bunch Sprint at
The end we’ve obviously got Raiders that might not have a Sprint as I’ve said before so they’ll be the Raiders that are trying to trying to catch but H this bunch is absolutely split to Pieces I’m not sure anyone knows where the front of the bunches where the back of the bunch
Is sorry we’ve got uh the three Raiders think that they’ve got the back of the bunch but it’s only a few Raiders there yeah so in a points race to gain the 20 points you need to lap what is deemed to be the main body of the field that is a
Decision for the commissaires in the track Center you be able to hopefully just catch the commiss on your screen occasionally they will be pointing to the head of the field confirmation on is on your screen for results of Sprint number four of six so it it’s Ben Wiggins who took the
Maximum points there you will wait for the updated standings that is showing standings after Sprint two of six I actually had four Sprints bear with us on the track at the moment we have got some groups forming together now now it’s starting to get a little bit more
Organized there is Will per there is Ben Wiggins who we’ve spoken so much about already seeing on the screen there it’s got 10 Riders now who have scored at least one point it is 17 riders that will qualify out no 12 riders that will qualify out of 17 riders in the race so
The question is for all those Riders on zero points if you finish on the same number of points as someone else how how does that work out so in the fin Sprint if you finish on the same points you the person who crosses a line first or ahead
Is uh is going to be the winner in terms of if you both have five points and you both cross the line and I’m I’m in front of you Joel then I’m going to win yeah yeah so if you’re equal on points it is down to that final Sprint yeah and then
Double points on the final Sprint as well so you could you could Propel yourself from right now well if we’ve only got seven points as as the top points if they don’t score any we could potentially have someone who has no points get 10 points and win
The whole qualifying also what we need to look out for is we have had a few Riders losing a lap I’m just looking at our live scoreboard at the moment that is just showing that so of course if you lose a lap or you don’t finish the race
You won’t be in those standings and it is the top 12 that will qualify so very important for the Riders to pay attention how many rid there are still left on the track this is our next Sprint Sprint number five of six and oh wow Finly Tarling there our Junior Rider Number
118 just Nicks the maximum point on the line there what a talented young Rider there absolutely brilliantly timed Sprint William Roberts just not being able to hold off William Tarling there that was a that was Finley Tarling sorry that was H that was a brilliant Sprint and he’s he’s bagged himself Five
Points he has yes so Five Points to Finley Tarling which I believe now puts him at the top of the standing so we’ve just had an updated scoreboard here in the vome so we haven’t had 20 points awarded for a lap gain to anybody so far but we
Have Finley Tarling showing us on 10 points from William Suter on eight will perrot on seven Ben Wiggins on seven Michael gil on six Archie Fletcher on five and Nathan Hardy on four that is your top seven it is 12 that will qualify we’ve got a small attack here
From two Riders at the moment we got William Suter who has already been on the scoreboard plenty it gets to the point where if you’ve qualified you can sit up in the bun if you know you’ve you’ve qualified you can sit up in the bunch but there
Might be Raiders who they’ve got some points they know they’re going to qualify but they still want to try tie things out and that’s what this experience is every race is an experience y every time you get on your bike at championships is a chance to try
A tactic Tres to make difference and we’ve got riders that are still racing hard here so William Roberts is number 102 in the black and then we have number 90 which is Ryan Oldfield for the hellz Cycling Club and it looks like we are all back together we’ve got just
Four laps to go now for our men’s points race qualific Heat number one and it looks like we have the bunch pretty much together we have had a few Riders losing laps and the challenge here for the riders that are still in the race is knowing exactly
Where they stand they’ll be able to get a chance each lap when they come down the back straight to see the scoreboard but unlike Road cycle you haven’t got a race radio in year it’s up to you to be able to read the race in front of you keep an eye on the
Scoreboard know who you need to Mark and know what you need to do so we’ve got a lot of rers that will know that they’re safe they’ve got plenty of points on the board they haven’t got to worry about being in that top 12 but there will be a
Few riders that may need to watch out let’s count how many are left here at the moment two away they make it 14 left in the race so just two riders that will miss out on qualification potentially and there is the bell for the final Sprint got Timothy Tor trying to take
This or no it’s not it’s number 108 William Sal who has scored so well already this race he’s going to take the maximum points there on the line final Sprint secure his qualification question is who is inside that top 12 it’s almost like an an elimination
Isn’t it it’s h well with the scratch yesterday it was pretty much whoever was the the last six is out but it all depends on how many points you’ve got in this race but that final Sprint could mean a lot for the for the end of the table the leading table there
So we’re just waiting for the confirmation of who has qualified and who has missed out the last six seeing some replay shots on the screen at the moment of that final spring and we will wait to be able to bring you the final results and waiting for our
Scoreboard to update the moment is still on showing the points T after Sprints five of six as we’ve said top 12 will qualify it doesn’t matter where you qualify as long as you’re inside that top 12 you will qualify for the final this evening and that is what matters that is where the
National championship Jersey is available on the line so nervous moments for a few Riders here perhaps as they wait to see if they’re inside that top 12 we know our riders that are safe we know that Ben Wiggins is safe will perrot is safe Finley Tarling is
Safe taking a lot of points early on in that race we will bring you the final results as soon as we get them it’s always a tense moment that especially if you know that you you’re not sure if uh if you’ve qualified Beautiful scenes of the track Center and if you look down you can see all the mechanics the coaches the helpers beautiful the beautiful thing about Nationals is your your family come can come down and help you and be your be your helper sometimes that’s good sometimes it’s not so good I used
To say to my dad to to go and sit in the stands when it was warm up time but uh it’s always great to have them around for support it certainly is so we now have our final results of the qualifying heat one of the men’s points race we just
Seeing them on our timing board in venue we have William sulter heading the standings with 18 points followed by William Roberts with 10 Finley Tarling is also on 10 Ben Wiggins on seven will parrot on seven Michael gil on six Archie Fletcher on five so that is your
Top seven eighth we have Nathan Hardy on four we then have Riders who have lost the lp but nth Place Timothy Tory 10th Place David Bry Kia Gaffney takes 11th and I’ve just missed who’s going to take 12 there but we had 15 Riders finished two Riders didn’t
Finish so three Riders won’t qualify and there you go on your screens now results of the men’s points race qualifying heat one that is your top 10 Williams sort of taking maximum points there 18 familiar names there will parrot defending champion in fifth but as I
Said a few rers losing laps so that is why we’ve got ridders on minus points there so rather than have a 20 point lap gain for the Rudders that we saw gaining a lap instead we have had the ridders that have got laps take minus 20 that’s
Why we’ve got some unfamiliar scores on the board but bear with us it all does make sense I promise and there you go there is Place 11th and 12th so it is James Sweeney who takes 12th Place and will qualify unfortunately ree Edwards Ryan Alman and Isaac Lawrence just missing
Out it’s difficult that isn’t it but again it’s important to come down get the experience enter these races and uh every every day is a school day certainly is so all Goods opportunities to race your bike at highest level in the UK at the national championships so that was heat one of
The men’s points race qualifying we will have heat two up in a few moments but before that we we do have to have round one of the women’s Sprint so we had our women’s Sprint qualifying our 200 MERS as our first event of the morning we saw
17 Riders take to the track our top 15 have qualified automatically for the next round Riders number 16 and 17 however in that qualification will need to race against each other in the women’s Sprint first round the winner of this heat will qualify for the second round so basically we’re trying to established
Our top 16 to go through to the next round of competition so we have here Rider Number Three who’s the that is lower down the track Anna Burl then we have Elizabeth Bron who is representing the University of Nottingham Cycling Club at the top of the track
There this will be a three-lap race completely different to what we saw this morning in the 200 meters this is all about the tactics isn’t it yes it’s the race that we call the cat and mouse race because they’re always looking around their shoulders there’s lots of tactical
Races and as you said before in the qualifying that’s all about just posting as fast a time as possible so that you get a good seeding for these races but when you get to the Sprint the actual Sprint matches it’s all about tactics maybe knowing your oppon opponent what
Their strengths are what your weaknesses their weaknesses are knowing your strength and strength and weaknesses and playing to your advantage in terms of how you’re going to to play it tactically we can see here ryer who is in front she’s looking round her shoulder and uh if you’re behind you you
Can see everything that’s happening so it’s a bit more of an advantage so from our flying 200 Anna barel who is r a number three she did a time of 12.6 and Elizabeth Bron who is the rider at the back in in the dark kit
She did a time of 13.2 so on paper there’s there’s a fair chunk separating them in that 200 meters so it is Anna barel who is the rider in the the sort of white and black kits number three who is the fast the rider on paper but this
Is all about the tactics now and Elizabeth BR who is going up the track she is able to see exactly what Anna barl is doing and you can see here she’s going high Charlene she’s trying to use that track see she can element of surprise she dips underneath she’s got
The Sprinter lunity she has got the Sprinter line we are in the final lap now and Elizabeth Bron has gone through Anabel with work to do here down the back straight into the slipstream just comes ever so sadly outside the red line there but Elizabeth Bron is sprinting
All the way to the line can she do it no what a shock Elizabeth Bron 17th qualifier W taking a fantastic win there and you know she’ll be delighted with that because that is a really really big difference in the qualifying something might have gone wrong in her qualifying
Time or she’s just absolutely smashed that smashed that the tactics there she went for it she dipped underneath her opponent she had the inside line so she’s going less she’s going the quickest way around the track so it’s uh yeah it was it was really difficult then
For Anna Burl to to come rounder tactically really strong and just showing that the 200 met time TR is only a Time TR and it is all about that bike racing so really enjoyed that Sprint here of course we’re going to have a lot more sprinting to come as we progress
Through the women’s Sprint competition today we’ve just got William Suter on the screen there having a little chat with his coach post race be happy he’s qualified yeah so after that brief brief break from the men’s points race we’re going to go back to men’s points race
Qualifying so that was our only heat for the women’s Sprint round one now we’re going to go back to men’s points resing so we’ve just seen that 60 lap men points ra qualifying Heat number one where we had 17 riders with 12 to qualify we have heat number two coming
Up soon with another 17 riders with again the top 12 to qualify well breaking news from the first points race qualifier and I can tell you that Rider Number 31 Rees Edwards of Train Shop development team has been disqualified for using a noncompliant bicycle that d33 or attemp
Toif so just bringing you some breaking news you may have just heard Carla in venue announcer announce it but number 31 ree Edwards from Heat number one of the men’s points race qualifying has been disqualified for a non-compliant bike well we were talking about the handlebars weren’t we and the different
Shapes and I mean it could have been that could have been just where his saddle is in relation to his his handlebars how far forward it is how high the saddle is compared to the the depth of the handle it’s just all you all you have to measure your bike before
You jump onto the track lots of regulations for bikes at this level to be minimum there also minimum weight of course 6.8 kg so we are waiting to hear exactly what the issue was with the non-compliance we are just bringing you the live information as we’re hearing it
In the vrone very lucky to be in the National Cycling Center today and getting you uh all the information as up to date as we possibly can but it does sound like Reese Edwards has unfortunately been dis qualified we will have 12 progress from Heat number one of the men’s points race
Through to the final the evening that will be a 30 km race this evening so 120 laps we’ve got 15 km qualifiers so 60 lap races mean we have six Sprints and this is Heat number two who are up on your screen now so we’ve got our Riders now coming up to the
Start line just seeing Noah Hobs there number 57 he is is uh just second in line at the start he’s just behind William Tipple who is our scratch race world champion there is William Tipple they’re riding for samiran in the black kit that super worlds last year was
Absolutely wild wasn’t it Jo we had so many world champions crowned in that week and it was just a stacked program it was amazing to have the par program mixed in with the elite program it was just so inspiring I feel because they don’t necessarily have as big a crowd
Usually so it the atmosphere was just brilliant for and also the opportunity for all the riders in the squads to support each other and be there to watch each other race they don’t usually get that opportunity 100% so so here in Manchester at the national Cycling
Center the the Olympic team and the par Olympic team all train here on the Val drone and you know often sharing track time sharing the gym know various facilities support staff but then come to competition normally World Championships are are pretty separate uh but at the super worlds in Glasgow last
Summer not just all the disciplines together but the power events also there on in the same place at the same time which is a luxury that we also have here at the national championships so very popular one and lots of really exciting racing that we saw there last summer you
Were lucky enough to be in that Val Drome Charlene I was working remotely but you were lucky enough to be there for the full seven seven days of competition did we have the racing over there yes it was it was long it was long but it was it was really really special to
Be part of it and the cred in Glasgow didn’t disappoint so yeah well done for Glasgow hosting the first Super worlds wonder if we’ll wonderful do it again and is it every four years every four years the next one will be in France I believe which will be the year before
The next Olympic Games always taking that slot at the sort of the one year to go mark before the next um Olympic and Par Olympic Games take place so the UCI seems pretty set on that format going forward so uh we’re in for a treat in a few more years time
Certainly so Heat number two is underway for the men’s points race qualifying day two of the British cycling national championships here at the national Cycling Center in Manchester said the word national awful lot of times there but you get the idea the gun has been
Fired and we are underway so we have 17 Riders on the track here the top 12 will qualify and we’ll go through to our points race final which will take place later on this evening we will have all the action live from all the qualifying events this morning all the finals this
Afternoon and this evening you do not have to miss a moment of any of it on the British tying YouTube channel you can get involved as well use the hasht track Champs to get involved tell us what you think ask us any questions please do get in touch
So we are underway just seeing 58 Laps on the board now so the first Sprint will come at 50 laps to go but here the bell at 51 laps to go this is one of my favorite races to watch not because it’s really it can get really confusing with where the start of
The race is but just because you get Sprints every 10 laps so there’s exciting Parts the exciting part of the racing it’s not just you know scratch race right till the end and you’re waiting for that Sprint but this race you have the opportunity for Riders to
Really make it a tactical race rather than just like fill on waiting till the end for the Sprint or trying to get laps it’s all about tactics maybe you’ve got a game plan you’ve also got to react to the bunch an awful lot to think about as you
Say SO waiting for that first Sprint there 55 laps to go here so if you are just having a little look around looking at each other seeing what wheel they want to be on 57 Noah hops they’re just doing a very short turn on the front before swinging
Up we have Sam fer there as well it is interesting to see these different types of bars on our screens and it and and you notice when they’re in the bunch when they’re trying to get comfortable I think it’s more beneficial when you’re perhaps ahead in a small
Group of like four or five and you can just get into a rhythm into a more aerodynamic position rather than having your hands in the drops it is indeed and we’ve just gone through we’ got 52 Laps on the board now so everyone is now thinking about that
First Sprint so thinking about what wheel you want to follow what wheel you want to follow and also where you want to be with two laps to go in that line but the the pace is really high so it’s almost looking like a drag race towards the the lap before the
Sprint certainly is so Bell this time around and we have got Rider Number 18 who is leading out this Sprint now Andrew Brinkley but he has got a strong challenge there coming from Henry Hobs on his outside coming around all the way to the line down the home street here
Can he hang on yes he can maximum points there to Henry Hobbs Rider number 56 taking the five points on the line there oh Al had Joshua price right up there as well coming around the outside so it’ll be interesting where he finished in to see where he finished in that
Sprint oh and we’ve got a Raider off the front now oh no he’s sitting up spoke too soon we had a brief attack there taking the opportunity to try and sneak away with that lullin action there but not quite meant to be thinking thinking better of it and just swinging up the
Track I can tell you that Henry Hobbs was our winner of that Sprint with Five Points Joshua price took second with three points Andrew Brinkley took third with two points and the final point was Noah Hobbs with one point the the pace of the bunch has really slowed down
Now and uh things have settled down Riders looking round at each other no one really wanting to take it on and and this is more of a Point Race that I would have liked for my qualifying but we’re still early on we’re still early on we could see it be blown apart
Bit he certainly can so it’s Callum 12’s there on the front at the moment just putting the pressure on ever so slightly before swinging up when the the bunch is strung out along the bottom of the track on the black Lane the pace tends to be a lot
Faster and then when you see the Riders spread out along the track up towards the the banking in the barrier then that tends to be when the bunch slows down so that’s an indicator of how fast usually the bunch is going certainly is so our race lead
There Henry Hobs just swinging up off the front there but’ll already be starting to think about that next spit now we’re just seeing 44 laps too so I always think when you start seeing a sort of a four or three or three on the screen you need to be thinking about
Where you are a two on the screen it’s it’s getting you know was doting for position by that point when you see a one on the screen the Sprint is very much underway of course points AV available when it does say 40 with a zero there so they’re already thinking
About that we’ve got a little move off the front here we’ve got round number 30 denam Edwards there who was pushing on the pace but now we’ve got a slight counter move here by Joshua Gilbert so welcome back to our live stream of the national championships here at the national Cycling Center in
Manchester we do apologize if you have had any technical issues uh following our stream but we are back and we are live now we are in the middle of qualifying Heat number two of the men’s points race we have two qualifying Heats here with the top 12 in each heat
Qualifying for the final this evening and right now is William tidball who is leading out this Sprint trying to get five points on the line there and he takes it nicely maximum points there to the rider from Saran and our scratch race world champion so just as a reminder we’ve got
Two Heat for the men’s points race qualifying both Heats are being raced over 60 laps so half distance 15 km our top 12 from each heat will qualify for the men’s points race final which will be this evening we had a couple of riders not finish in the earlier Heat this morning
We also had a disqualification unfortunately for ree Edwards for a non-compliant bike so that is the update from the first of the men’s points race qualifying Heats but we are well underway of heat number to now we’ve had two sprints out of six we will bring you the standings
As soon as we get them on our live timing here in venue of riders S zero points in the moment this this heat is Heat number two and they are going second so they’re not going to want to expend as much energy because I guess Heat number one have
Went earlier on the day they’re going to have longer to recover between the two races and we’re actually seeing I would say a lot Tamer qualifying Heat this time compared to the first yeah I think that is the real balance when you’ve got a qualifying heat when you know you’ve
Got another bike race to come it’s going to be twice the distance as well you don’t want to expend too much energy you do want to ensure that you qualify you might want to try and open up your legs a little bit depending how much you’ve tapered depending how you’re feeling is
Really nice to get get a feel for being back on the track and getting a feel for which Wheels to follow who else is feeling good who’s come to these championships in good form who you want to follow who you want to avoid maybe get rid of some of the race nerves as
Well yeah exactly that it’s Saturday and and here we’re going to have a packed Manchester vrum tonight so H really exciting coming up for the finals later on but it’s all about the it’s all about the qualifying just now you can see the Riders getting really nice and
Low trying to expend the least amount of energy as possible even in this qualifying even when they’re just on the front for half a lap you don’t want to have to push at all yes you can see the pace is just coming off here so we’re
Not strung out in one line around the bottom we’ve got a few raders spread across the track at the moment only two laps to go to the Sprint so they’re all looking round who’s going to make that move to to start the Sprint there’s two
Laps to go not long to go no I can just see will tidle moving around the outside at the moment towards the front he’s number 120 in the all black kit he is our scratch race world champion of course would love to add a national title in the points race to his
Collection and he is on the front at the moment as we get the bell with 31 laps to go so will tible is leading it out he’s got strong challenges from the side just underneath our Rider from Wales number 35 Sam fer is opening up a strong Sprint there we’ve got a strong
Challenge on the outside from the rider from vcl can he get it on the line oh very tight there I think that even might have been Noah Hobs on the outside number 57 in the blue kit we’ll wait for confirmation of the top four in that Sprint that’s the thing with Manchester
Ome you can you can come round the outside and win the Sprint not in the Finish not in the Stak because the streets are quite short but it all happens in the Bings on this track just seeing will Tipple there he was well up there in that Sprint didn’t
Take the win didn’t take the maximum points but we’ll wait to see exactly where he finished could have been Noah Hobs on the line Noah Hobs came the long way around the outside and I’ve got confirmation it’s actually Sam fiser who took the maximum points there then will tidball in
Second think it was Noah Hobs in third we wait to see who took the final point there but currently leading the overall standings is Will Tibor on eight points overall from Sam fiser on five Henry Hobs on five jack Harley on three Noah Hobs on three Joshua price also on
Three and Thomas adby on two that is your top seven it is your top 12 that qualify we need to keep an eye out if anybody loses a lap or doesn’t finish the race’ll be one less rider for those still qualifying to worry about and that
Is the confirmation of this wi the top four in Sprint number three Sam Fisher will Tipple Noah Hobbs and Dylan Belton Owen from the vcl base heill Val Drome in South London taking that final point on the line there we’ve actually got Noah Hobs has a fairly probably a third
Of a lap gap on the field he’s ahead of the field at the moment there we go there is that shot just see Noah Hobs at the bottom of your shot there just about to come over the finish line and yeah as you say he’s got a gap on the field he’s
Been able to sneak away we’ve got Jack Harley who has realized a threat here now trying to chase him down but Noah Hobs has taken a flyer here we are over halfway through this race we’ got 23 laps to go now Noah Hobs looks around see if anyone’s trying to come with him
And they are he’s got company two Riders now are they going to work together oh no Noah Hobs has sat up and Jack Harley continues he’s absolutely flying around he’s almost got half a lap on the field now and he looks like he’s fully committing to this he’s obviously
Wanting to get those 20 points or even just stay out in front get the five points and then go back to the bunch and stay in and and just trying and stay out of trouble so uh yeah it looks like if he he could hold on to
This he certainly can hold on to this so the Bell has rung he is in the final lap now before the Sprint points Jack Harley here of cycling Sheffield comes around he will take maximum points on the line this time that will be five points to
Him we have got 20 laps to go of racing just decide our minor points there on the line for Riders number two two three and four as they crossed over we’ll bring you confirmation as soon as we get it ja Harley looks like he’s looking back to the bunch he’s still pushing
Down on the pedals kind of easing up for the bunch now this is that decision making time I’ve seen Ben Marsh of the poop team is going across there we’ve got a couple of brothers that have been laed as well 18 laps to go with racing and now we’ve got some
Decision making do you keep pushing on or do you sit up and wait for the rers behind looks like at the m f is going to wait sit up and wait for the Riders behind to catch them and we are going to be in one big bunch again that is number
Rider 76 Ben Marsh you’re seeing on your screen there you’ll have the Raiders who are looking up to their screen and um and seeing that they can’t see their names in the top eight and thinking right I need to get on that board yes you need
To be the top 12 but they can’t see the it’s only the top yeah top top seven top seven are on our screen in venue in the on the live timing board so if you’re a rider in the race that’s the only information you can get you can look up
At the screen there we can do our matths here off screen s the comfort of the Sands we’ve got the confirmational result number four of six on your screen there Jack Harley taking Max Point Fen Marsh in second those are your standings after Sprints four of six those are our
Top four will tidball joint on points with Jack Harley in eighth all the way down to eighth there Thomas adby on three points of course it’s the top 12 that will qualify so all still to play for for our other Riders number 12 12th Place at the moment is on zero points so
Anybody on zero is essentially in joint 12th position currently and if they don’t get any points will be decided by where they finish on the line in the final Sprint you’ve got if you’re looking up to that screen you’re you’re not seeing your name but there are Raiders that are on
Three points they’re not going to want to let that come down to the bunch Sprint either because they could get pushed down the leaderboard into the final few spots so I think these last tense times with only two sprints to go only two laps now till the till the
Sprint for only two more opportunities to get points on the board and that is a round of applause there from the crowd as three rers have taken that lap game so we will get 20 points on the board there’s one of our Joshua price there
Number 99 who was part of that but the Sprint is underway on the line here let’s see who takes that is number one Thomas adby he will take maximum points in the Sprint and we’ve also had a lap gate in there as well so big updates to
Come on this scoreboard and we are now in the final 10 laps of this men’s points race qualifier get maximum points in that spr so we will bring you confirmation as soon as we can of the points winners in that Sprint and of exactly who has gained a lap so
20 points are being given to Joshua price and Callum 12 for the lap gain number 99 Joshua price number 123 Callum 12s Joshua price now leads the standings on 23 from Callum tws on 21 Jack Harley is now in third will tidball also in joint third this is it final seven laps of
Racing we have a group of four who are just ahead of the bunch at the moment but they’re not working too well together we’ve got the bunch chasing them down from behind we’re going to have six laps on the board this time will tidle now at the front in that
Black kit number 120 just trying to close the gaps ahead of him at the moment wants to Ure that he’s safely through to that points race final tonight with no issues whatsoever just seeing Noah Hobs come to the front as well the thing with the British national
Championships as well is that some of the Riders will have been peing and tapering for this event and then you’ll have other Riders who are potentially on the program their British program and they’re maybe in a really heavy training block but they’re still wanting to get
The race the racing in their legs the tactics and that’s potentially what’s happening in this field yeah so you never know quite who has fully tapered FR of bet and who hasn’t but once you’re on the track and in the thick of a bike race of course you always want to win no
Matter how tired your legs are what phase of training you’re in we’re now into the final four laps of this men’s points race qualify and we have got a move coming down the back number 131 Connor Williams of the train sharp development team and he has taken a fly
He comes down the home straight now with three laps to go and he has got a huge Gap straight away he’s got more than a quar of a lap on the rest of the field he’s going to come around to see two laps to go this time and this could be
Maximum poins to him on the line at the end what a move there he’s looking so smooth after almost 60 laps he’s had the energy to really time his move to Perfection coming around for one lap to go now this is it Bou is being rung this time Conor
Williams is a way on his own he will take maximum points in this final Sprint he will ensure that he is qualified for that final tonight and we will keep a close eye on what happens behind we’ve got a strong Sprint happening behind with Noah Hobs
And Henry Hobs coming up the line but is the maximum points there for Conor Williams and I do believe Henry Hobs might have just taken that from Noah Hobbs on the line for second place so points available for our top four there well well that was an exciting qualifying points
Race it’s brilliant if people are coming to watch at the vrum this morning and they’ve never seen a points race that was really really exciting wasn’t it that was a brilliant race just seeing a few highlight shots here this was the start of the race you can see the commer
Firing the gun we had multiple attacks we had Riders gaining a lap here for these two taking 20 points there then it was a big attack at the end from Conor Williams take the points on the line just a perfectly time attack wasn’t it
It’s a it’s such an art to be able to do that and also if you’re a known Rider or if you’re marked sometimes they’re not going to let you go um so it’s yeah well done to him for for that really well executed final effort that definitely will have gotten qualifying it will
Indeed have done so we are waiting for the final stand just got uh after Sprint five of six on our scoreboard at the moment so little bit of math for the commiss in the track Center to be done to make sure they’ve got those standing
Spot on before we will bring them to you but that concludes the men’s points race qualifying for this morning so we’ve had heat one and two and the top 12 Riders from each heat will be up later on this evening for the final which will be a full 30 km
Race we’re looking at our racing comp we second stage so we’ll be moving swiftly on from Men’s points racing to women’s sprinting that will be our next event on the track as a man we get you the results of the men’s points race qualifying heat te we’ll bring them
To you oh our score but has just been updated so our winner of heat number two is Ben Marsh from Joshua price Callum 12’s Henry Hobs Conor Williams Jack Harley and then William tidball in seventh place that is our top seven we will wait to see who gets inside that top 12
And there we go eighth place Noah Hobbs Ninth Place Andrew Brinkley 10th Place tommen Thomas adby 11th Place Joshua Gilbert and I’ve just missed 12 I’m sorry my eyes didn’t quite uh squinting a little bit there trying to read the scoreboard for you but as soon as
They’re available we will have a Graphic up on your screen of confirmation of the top 12 so we’re just waiting for a confirmation of those results once we get them we will bring them to you top 12 going through to the finals this evening our next event will be the
Women’s Sprint second round so you can just see in your your shot here our first two Riders are coming up onto the track at the moment so Heat number one will be Lauren Bell who we’re seeing here who is Rider number two for team inspired she just come up to the line
Sorry I’m seeing her your shot will see her very soon against number eight Elizabeth Bron who we just saw take that fantastic win in the first round so the way the Sprint rounds are seeded it’s basically the fastest Rider from the fly round will go against the slowest so
Lauren Bell by virtue of winning that flying 200 setting the fastest time she is up against our slowest qualifier in Elizabeth Borton so Lauren Bell did a time of 10.8 Elizabeth Bron did a time of 13.2 so for Lauren Bell on paper this should be a straightforward ride however
This is bike racing this is match sprinting it’s the national championships anything can happen anything can happen that’s what we saw in the previous heat with the almost the upset of when you’re second you she posted a Elizabeth brought and posted a time that was a second slower
Than her opponent and actually actually beat her it was um it was a very well tactically ridden race but now you can see she’s taken that back position she’s got Lauren Bell in her sights and is she going to is she going to do the same is she going to be able to
Tactically out Sprint her opponent there is a lot of time between their qualifying times so there’s a big gap between it but just never know bait ring bait raing she’s around the top of the track now and Elizabeth Bron is taking on Lauren Bell Lauren Bell is leading out
At the moment but Bron is right in that slick stream bell is out the saddle just have a little look over her shoulder she does not want to be taken by surprise in this heat down the home straight Lauren Bell knows she has done J on there for Lauren Bell but she was
Never complacent was she she knew this could be this could be dangerous heat yeah after having watched the the previous heat you don’t want to to let anything come down to the the Finish Line because so she was constantly looking around her shoulder making sure that she knew where Elizabeth Bron was
The whole time and she she rode that perfectly not expending too much energy you can see there wasn’t too much effort there and uh yeah safe through to the next round well to the quarterfinals to the quarterfinals we’ve got next up on the track we’ve got ran Edmonds and Rebecca
Howard ran Edmonds in the colors of Team inspired and Rebecca Howard for Glasgow Track Racing Club so Rebecca Howard qualifying in 15th Place with a time of 12209 ran Edmunds qualifying in second place time of 11 7.46 so Edmunds here A Team inspired in that green Union Jack kit there at the
Top of your screen number 21 on paper she is by far the quicker Rider but as always all about the tactics here are we going to have anybody go for a long one are we going to have the cat of mouse of a of a track stand Anything could happen
In match sprinting I mean that’s if if there is such a big gap between the qualifying team and you know that you’re on the back foot you really have to you have to do something special don’t you they’re going at a really slow pace here you need to be going faster than walking
Pace which they are just but you can see that ran Edmonds at the back there she is trying to stay as close to Rebecca Howard’s wheel as possible and it’s difficult when you’re looking around to see the rider if they’re really close to your wheel you have to
Creek your neck all the way around yeah she’s really trying to get in that blind spot there isn’t she so like you say if if you lay off a little bit further you can you know quite easier to see your opponent if you’re right behind they’re
Very tricky to see and we have got this catam mouse T that we’ve talked about we are in the back straight at the moment going right up to the fence there very slowly not quite a track stand but still very very KY racing this Rebecca Howard is not afraid of the
Reputation here she is dictating beating the speed of this race responding behind but at the moment Howard is completely in control of the pace here keeping it very very slow and kg ran Edmond’s just trying to get some height on the track a little bit wavering on the track unsure is she
Going to dip down underneath or does she want to stay high on the track and use the momentum of the banking she’s picking it up no so Edmunds out the saddle Staying High on the track we’re trying to see where she’s gone but Edmond has come underneath
Taken the opportunity to take the inside line and we are inside our final lap they are both Staying High Edmunds riding very intimidatingly there responding though out the saddle down the back straight and Edmunds is a number of bike lens clear now into the home straight and she’s going to take a
Very clear win on the line there done ranne Edmund takes Heat number two of this women’s Sprint and she is safely through to the quarterfinals yes Rebeca Howard just left the door open as we say in sprinting and then ran Edmonds dive down underneath to get that sprinters line
However yeah she didn’t make a full effort to start but she did get ahead and held onto that win it was a good uh it was a good race from Rebecca how to try to to dip back down and get into the slit stream but she was never close
Enough to be able to get that slingshot to come round so some more familiar jerseys skins is up on the track again so another rider for team inspired who is r number 50 at the top of the track Iona M then we have Christina Smith there for
The Glasgow Track Racing Club she is number 66 just slightly lower down the track on your screen at the moment the faster qualifier 11121 it’s like a rerun of the colors of the the last race isn’t it it’s easy for us as commentators when they’ve got such distinguishing features and also they’re
Look at the difference in the color of skin suits is beautiful to her eyes compared to two to team inspired or two Glasgow track very commentator friendly here as you say we’ve got a lot of riders from SIM from the same teams at these championships the team inspired Riders
Part of the Great Britain cycling team based here in Manchester training here day in day out of course anybody based up in Glasgow has got the wonderful SES Hoy valad Drome built ready for the 2014 Commonwealth Games producing a lot of fantastic Riders out of Scotland we have another very kg start
To one of these match Sprint Heats Christina Smith the rider who is at the front at the moment Rider number 66 dictating the pace m is laying off just by about a couple of bike lengths at the moment so this as we were saying in the previous here actually makes it easier
For Smith to see M because she’s that little bit further further behind so not quite in that blind spot yeah you don’t have to turn your head as far around you can use your peripheral vision a little bit more it’s uh it’s difficult when a when a rider wants to go right behind
You and and uh that’s the element of surprise though isn’t it but no one really wants to take it on from the front of the race heading up the track this is the point in the race where it changes where you’re like maybe I do want to be in the front
So is it going to happen is Iona you’re going to dive down underneath her opponent like no Smith’s not going to allow her to do that and she’s ramping up the pace at the front of the race now so Christina Smith is the r out the
Settle but M takes that inside line dips underneath and she is now in control we hear the Bell this time both rers out the settle Staying High as we go over that finish line biona is in control at the front here she swoops down the track
We’re down the back straight and she has drawn out three bike thingss there we come R less than 100 m to go down the home straight and is going to take this by a huge margin wins Heat number three these match Sprints are all about just as a rider getting experience for
Your later rounds so every match is is important it’s obviously important to conserve as much energy for the bigger races coming up ahead but you have to win your heat so trying out some tactics can be uh exactly what you need to do this is going to be a good heat coming
Up next I think so as we go through these Heats our Riders are more closely matched on paper from our Sprint qualifying this morning so we’ve got 16 Riders over eight Heats and essentially fastest qualifiers starts off against slowest qualifiers as we progress down we’re going to have some very tight
Competitions Heat number four now up the Riders up on your screen at the moment we have number 58 Georgette Rand against number 41 Sarah Johnson now Rand qualified in fourth place for the time of 11161 so incredibly close to the time of Iona mure for team inspired Sarah Johnson qualified a
Little bit slower 13th Place in a time of 12.1 so almost a second separate these two Riders on paper but of course all about tactics now so we need to keep a close eye on Johnson who is the right at the back at the moment she’s in the
Red skin suit with the black shorts on the SLL bike Rand in the blue skin suit at the front and already we’ve got quite a gap between these two Riders so already at the moment Johnson is really sort of laying off but as I say that she’s
Coming behind is she going to take the opportunity to come around this is not as Cy as the STS we’ve had so far no they’re trying to keep the pace a little bit higher and um they potentially want to be more proactive in starting the race rather than reactive we can see at
The front Georgette Rand is really ramping up the pace doesn’t want to allow her opponent to come in front of her and this must be her tactic right it out from the front she needs to get a little bit height now because her opponent’s coming round from the back
Johnson using the height of the track there but ran staying low hugging that black line putting that power down in this final lap Johnson is gaining on her as we come down this H St can she do it no she can’t quite get back on terms and Grand takes Heat number four convincing
Win there for the rider from V Club Lincoln definitely she had the confidence there knowing that she’d posted the faster qualifying time out of the two and uh yeah just used it to the best of her ability whereas Sarah Johnson did the right thing used the
Height of the Bings to come down and use their momentum momentum but didn’t just have enough top speed but we are recording okay now we have Kirsty Johnston for the Edinburgh Racing Club and Emily Burgess on the track for SCS racing two red skin suits here at the
Top of the track we’ve got Buress on the Luke bike and we have KY Johnson on the inside of the track so sister of Sarah Johnson who was up in Heat number four both Riders from the Edinburgh Racing Club so Heat number five as we go through these Heats as we’ve been saying
The times get closer and closer from qualifying so ciry Johnson qualified in fifth the 11.48 3 Emily Burgess qualified in 12th with a TW 12.0 so just about half a second separating these two Riders on paper two red skin suits however different teams and different color bikes
So kind of a little bit easier Dolan bik at the front and a Luke bik at the back y the Luke bike is Emily Burgess number nine number 40 ciry Johnson is on the Dolan bike and the race is getting underway we are coming around for the Bell this time both
Riders out the saddle down the home straight over the Finish Line there and we are both staying highight above the blue line only dipping down now down to that red and it is neck and neck right on the wheel there for Rider Number n Emily
Bures right in that s can she come round down this H has she got any more power no it’s Kirsty Johnson who leads all the way to the line there taking Heat number five sometimes it’s it’s difficult to to leave a little bit later there she was
Just a little bit too close to the wheel in front of her she didn’t get that Gap you want you actually want a little bit of a gap so that you can rush into the slipstream and then get the slingshot round and unfortunately she went into
The slip stream a little bit too early didn’t quite time it right but the faster of the two Raiders Christy Johnson moves through to the quarters so that was Heat number five we got three more Heats to go eight Heats in total the winner of each heat goes
Through to the quarterfinal so no best of thre at this stage of the competition it is simply the winner does progress so Heat number six now at the top of your screen for the Wales Racing Academy Amy Cole well known for being a superstar tandem pilot and a world champion from
The World Championships last summer in Glasgow in the tandem team Sprint bottom of the track in the black kit Rider number 64 that is Madeline silcock these Riders are closer and closer together in qualifying Amy Cole time of 11.55 Madeline Sil a time of 11.88 2 so
Just 310 separating these two Riders on paper not a lot in it at all we’re going to have more more technical tactical races as we progress through these Heats definitely it’s um it’s difficult to to kind of understand who’s going to win this one because they’re both strong Riders
And Amy Cole has I would say has Advantage starting at the back she can see what’s happening if she can get herself to the front and be proactive then she might have a chance she is the faster of the two Raiders madlin silok at the front maybe wants to hold on to that
Possession so at the moment Amy Cole is behind keeping enough distance for a little bit of room to move into is she needs to just getting out the saddle there and now going high Amy Co taking that opportunity out the saddle around her opponent and she now has the lead of
This race we’re going to come through for the Bell this time this is our final lap of racing and the Sprint is underway Amy Cole out the saddle taking the inside line here on the black line strong challenge here from silok right on her wheel down the back straight
Coming alongside Cole here as we hit the 100 met to go inside line here for Amy Cole spreading all the way through line now and she draws that a bike length nicely done Sprint win Heat number six for Amy Cole there from the Wales Racing Academy you can actually tell that Amy
Cole has quite a big gear on her bike so that’s possibly why she wanted to get to the front and be a little bit more proactive in the racing just to ramp up the gear a little bit more because it it’s difficult because on the track bike
For those that are listening that and watching that you don’t have multiple gears you have to select your gear for the race and she’s obviously a really strong rider selected a big gear and uh and you can’t change direction or react quickly if you’re on a bigger gear you
Have to ramp it up over a few laps you do indeed so gear selection incredibly important in any track racing but sprinting one that can be ever so tactical as well so despite the best of intentions picking your gear Before the Race can possibly come on stock
Depending how the race goes now we have heat number seven up on the tracks at the top of the track here right at number 49 is Sylvia mistle Racing for the Glasgow Track Racing Club number 77 in the red Kit with the black shorts is Anna Whitworth Haye so mitell qualified in seventh
Place at the time of 11.6 Whitworth hay qualified in 10th Place the time of 11.7 so a tenth of a second separating these two Riders on paper that is nothing that is barely the blink of an eye isn’t it Charlene yeah it’s it’s absolutely nothing so either
Of these Raiders could when it’s all going to be about what chat did they have with their coach how are they going to execute the race if they’re at if they were starting at this front or if they are starting at the back and we’ll soon find out they they look like
They’re they’re not messing around they’re ramping up the pace at the front there we’ve got Anna Whitworth he just keeping power on the pedals yeah both Riders winding up at the moment mitell Staying High on the track wit with hay with the inside line on the red at the moment and here we
Have the Bell now both rers at the sou as we come over that Finish Line it is Whitworth Haye in poor position at the moment but mitzel is coming behind here and a longside down this back straight mitel has come alongside pworth ha around the finals B here into the home
Stra the be a drag race all the way to the line mitel takes it on the line and the crowd are delighted that is the closest Sprint we’ve seen so far in this competition that was so so close we’ve got a replay here the Sprint has been launched and
Now Sylvia mitzell just in the slipstream making that effort to come around the outside she did have the faster of the times but not by much really grit her teeth aerodynamic position ducking down and uh gets it over the line wow what a treat that was for Heat
Number seven of eight of this women’s Sprint second round we have said that these races are going to get Tighter and Tighter as we progress through the competition with the qualifying times having less difference between them so getting ready to come up on the track now for Heat number eight our final heat
Will be Stephanie Hall and Lucy Grant they were are eighth and Ninth fastest qualifiers respectively Stephanie Hall at time of 11. 723 Lucy grant them of 11. 729 yes and Lucy Grant a Scottish rider was on the Scottish program now racing recreationally and that again it’s great to see the amateur
Riders the Riders who race recreationally on the side of a job and we saw that yesterday with Pete Mitchell has been related Lane we have just heard that from the previous Heat number seven rer 49 Sylvia Mist has been relegated so Anna Whitworth hay will take that
Victory Night Rider Number 77 so little a bit of upset there but that is our latest news we can bring you from the valad Dres we’re seeing on our live timing the result has been reversed with Anna Whitworth K taking that victory back to heat number eight on the track
We have Stephanie Hall who is the rider number 34 in the all black kit at the back at the moment against Lucy Grant rid at number 30 who is in the the red white and black at the front the people Cycling Club final heat of this second round of
The women’s Sprint and this is the closest one on paper just 6,000 of a second separating these two riders in their flying 200 M this morning as I say that we’ve just got a little move here from Stephanie Hall in the black kit just coming to the
Front here she’s Keen to lead out this Sprint so far no Challenge from Lucy Grant from behind happy for Hall to take the lead here two laps to go this time Hall still looking over her shoulder making sure she can see exactly where Grant is when it’s so close with times
You’d expect the Riders to be proactive and uh and really go for it there’s a big gap opening up between the Riders now but Lucy Grant is low on that blue line launching her Sprint from a bit lower on the track PO has gone very early there huge
Gap already in this final lap now out the saddle down the back straight and Lucy Grant has been caught out here Stephanie Hall Hing away down that home straight taking a fantastic win there in the fin fin Heat number eight of this women’s Sprint second round yeah luzy
Grant just left the door wide open the massive Gap there and just didn’t have when you’re so close in times you can’t leave it you can’t leave a gap that big there’s no chance you’re going to increase your speed to to gain gain ground on your opponent in
Front of you so unfortunately for Lucy Grant she won’t go through to the quarters but great ride from Stephanie Hall really really proactive from and rode the the race from the front there out of trouble proactive indeed yeah so very tight in in qualifying barely anything in it but Stephanie Hall
Taking the race on like you say getting the job done she is qualified looking forward to the next event on the track which is the men’s team Sprint first round we’ve got 11 teams that are going to take to the track and uh yeah this is the event that
British cycling focus on a lot with the sprinters there’s three Riders and your first Rider they start in the gate their job is to get the team up to speed basically just just ride as fast as they can for that first lap then you’ve got Rider two and three coming off the back
Of that Rider one and trying to finish off the race but each Rider has their role in the race and you’ll see soon exactly how that plays out great to see lots of different bikes on our screens these the equipment is uh is pretty cool in track racing it’s really
Impressive I always think of course roads road bikes are cool but just the slickness of a track bike just looks super slick and cool there’s no brakes if you’re watching for the first time there’s no brakes when I heard that for the first time time I was H I was a little bit
Alarmed but it all makes sense when you’re when you’re on the track the thought of breaks is scary it it would certainly would be scary I remember the first time I heard that I was like I wish somebody told me this before I turned up a valin but here we are so we
Are waiting to get underway for the men’s team Sprint first round we have a total of 11 teams here entered we will have 11 separate Heats so each team will race on the track individually is a timed event with the start gate we’ve got the start gate up on the track now
And we are about to have ryer number one come and have their bike put in the gate so that’s rer number 58 it is Jack Harley he will be the man that is in the gate and then we have Riders two and three who are being taken up to the
Track behind him so Riders number two and three are always handheld for the start of the team Sprint with rider number one the one in the in the the start Gat which will be released by our timing system here in the valad Drone so at the moment we’re
Getting the three rers up on the track once we have the indication that everybody is ready we will um our countdown will begin it has begun I can see that here in the valum it’s just ticked past 40 seconds to go we will hear a beep at 10 seconds to go then
Beeps from five down to zero and then we will get underway that was the 30 second to go beat this is the team EMB ESV Manchester B So based here at the Manchester valdrome we’ve got Thomas Boyd who is at the top of the track in position number three then Luke
McCormick in position number two and Jack Hy who is man number one in the gate into the final 10 seconds now beats will start here at 5 to go and we will get [Applause] Underway big powerful start there out the gate for this team from Manchester and is Jack Hy who was riding this opening lap here you can see him down the back straight out the saddle we will get a time check there at the half lap it is a 12.4 opening half he will come
Around to complete this opening lap and swing out the way for his team to undertake the next two laps of racing and the Raider number two is just the joining block so important for that Raider to keep the momentum that Raider number one had and slingshot as he
Coming right now that Raider number three to finish the job for the last lap this is it now final lap is underway and it is Thomas voyd here who is going to set the time on the line this time set already Benchmark and is a 49315 so that is our early Benchmark
Team number one have been we’ve got 11 teams in total top eight qualify for the semifinals that looked like a really well- drilled team and uh I what happens is with with rider number one they really their job is just to get out the gates in time and just absolutely blast
It for as fast as they can for one lap and the idea is that their second lap their second half of the lap needs to be be faster than the first so that they transition and they pass on a really fast transition to the the second Rider but uh to finish off imagine
Being in position three and uh having to finish off the ride you’re you’re holding on for dear life for for the first lap second lap again and then someone moves out the way and you’ve got to push the wind for the last and the
Wind hits you so very long way to go for whoever is lucky enough to be in Rider number three position and of course multiple ring the same day we’ve got the qualifying Heats now we then have the semi-finals later on so early afternoon here in this morning session morning
Session going until until on 3:00 so loosely using the term morning here then we have our finals this evening love the team Sprint I always loved racing the team Sprint because it’s a team effort and you’ve all got your role to play and of course if
You’re winning medals in a team it feels nice it feels nice to be doing it with someone so we’re just seeing Zack green come in the gate here for the HCC racing team this is their second of their two teams that will take to the start in this
Competition then have round number two Thomas ulok in position number two and then William flatau in position number three number 36 full power out that start gate on this fixed gear these will be some huge gears these Riders are riding on but all those sessions in the gym paying off here and
Look at this hugely fast start here from Zack green of the who BCC team here and he is going to come around there’s quite a gap here to rer number two and he will set that time as a 19.3 opening lap you have to just go flat out no matter
What’s happening behind you you don’t know what’s happening you have to go flat out but this is what we’re tending to see massive gaps appear great second lap there 339 for two laps this is it final lap is William flat out who is going flat out on this
Final lap about to set the time here over the line what is that is a 48.7 so 48. 736 is the official time taking half a second off the time from the e Val Manchester team that was up in Heat number one yeah don’t be alarmed when you see a
Big gap behind man number one coming out the gate because it’s it’s really common because that’s their job they just need to get the team up to Pace if you’re in position two then you’ve got something to Chase and that’s great and you’re still got the
Slit stream when for up to how many meters is it I mean excellent question I mean yeah a significant portion even if you you don’t feel like you’re in that stion you will still get the benefit of of the air being you know a hole being punched through the air even if it’s
Quite a long way in front of you so even when you’ve got a ride on the opposite side of the track the air is still circulating but obviously the closer the better um but even if there does seem to be a big gap on screen there will still
Be some benefit from the rider behind so our third team is just getting ready to take to the track here we have Ryan Phillips taking to position number one in the gate and he will be joined by his two teammates who were just getting their feet clipped into the pedals off the
Track here they will be wheeled up to the side line for a handheld start looks like Daniel Cree is in position number two and Edward Baker in position number three here we go strong start at the start you can see rer number three already dropping down little bit of a
Gap opening up and a hugely fast start here already and some huge gaps down that H straight some work to do for these Riders is a 124 opening half lap let’s wait to see that opening spit our quickest so far is a 193 and it is a 199
Opening lap here for this team yes Edward Baker just was off the back there but possibly tactical H now in the slipstream as he comes through for his final lap looking good as he’s going around the back bend we’re in the back straight and his final half lap now El was out
Digging deep and he’s posting a time of 48.8 w very close there just one tenth of a second slower than the who BCC racing team that was a 48.83 six So currently second place overall out of three teams 11 teams making up these Heats here this morning with our top eight to
Qualify for the semi-final which will be early afternoon these are our standings so far the H BCC racing team number two they do have two teams in this competition are our current leaders with a 48.73 six we will wait for our next team to take the track which will be the number one
Ho ECC racing team so we have three other riders for this same team here taking to the start we will have Bram otwell Jack Pearson and Noah Woodhouse it takes a lot of practice to get the timing right of getting out the gate in time with when it releases the time
The countdown from 5 4 3 2 1 H your preparations on the bike so really important for it’s a crucial part of training for the man one position in the gate Man 2 and three P1 sorry P2 and three have the the luck of being held up
But you can see them maybe pointing left and right to get centered yep so you pretty much know that start gate is going to be Square on the TR for track for want of a better word um when your hand held at the start uh kind of give that little indication
To make sure that you do feel straight so look like we’ve got Noah Woodhouse in the start gate Bram otwell in position number two and then Jack Pearson is at the top of the track for this heat and we are off underway 48.8 the time to beat that has already been set this
Morning 48.7 actually the time to beat and let’s look at the time check for this first half lap and it is an 11.3 opening half that is a hugely quick opening half here let’s look at the time for the first lap and it is an 18.3 so
No one has got anywhere near that so far absolutely rapid out of the gate and the two Raiders behind are benefiting a lot from it they’re in the aerodynamic position here coming into the Home Street Rider Number Two peels up we’ve got Rider Number Three Jack Pearson
Finishing off the ride he looks really comfortable on top of the gear spinning those legs he’s got a Grimace because that last lap is going to be taking it all out of him and as he comes up to the line to PL a time of 47.62 fastest by 1. 674 seconds putting
Them into first yes that is a huge chunk taken off the best time by their teammates of course uh the H BCC racing number two are our previous leaders and it is now the team number one from H who are topping the standards with a 4 7.62 just seeing some replays from that
Ride here that lunge for the line and job done for them waiting to see exactly where they will finish in these standings top eight go through to the semi-final of course the the the better you qualify the higher you qualify the better but time to get back on the
Rollers spin the legs and wait to see where you’ll be for the semi-finals we’ve got Pete Mitchell oh he’s got his name on his skin suit how cool is that uh on our screens he is the national Sprint champion from yesterday and what a sensational performance and
Racing skill we saw from the I’m not going to say veteran cuz he’s only 34 but he’s younger than me so be careful same uh but yeah he he came back from he’s not raised for five years I interviewed him before and it was just beautiful to see he’s got a family had
His three kids in the stands and uh they’d never seen him race so really it was phenomenal he came in he said to me oh last year I wanted to lose a little bit away in in the summer I H started training in the garage gym and H
Started to do a few walk B sessions a weekend here I am not bad Pete it’s a really really wonderful story and of course he had a fantastic career before that he was very much part of the GB team he’s been to the par Olympics he’s
Piloted the tandem so he’s raced at the highest level but to have had that come back as you as you’ve just outlined there training around having a family and and running the the black line coaching company which is you know that’s his business that’s his full-time job training around that so hugely
Popular win yesterday in that individual Sprint for Peter Mitchell and who is up on the track now ready for the black line team to take the track for the team Sprint is James Brightwell who is in the gate Peter Mitch we’ve just been speaking about is in position number two
With Matthew meanwell in position number number three countdown is just approaching the 10c mark there just hear that beep we’ll get the beeps from 5 seconds and we will get underway and the crowd are roaring really popular team here in this Manchester vome the black line team and
Let’s see this first half last but is a 122 opening half we’ve got a few gaps between the Riders but they’re closing nicely as we come to the finish of lap number one and it is a 19.7 opening lap for the black line team Peter Mitchell are Sprint National Champion is leading
For lap number two 32.8 over the line final lap now for black line pushing all the way to the line for Matthew meanwhile let’s see this time check here and it is a 46.6 01 that is our quickest time we’ve had so far by nearly half a second brilliant result there absolutely
Brilliant to see oh 46 points 61 just seeing the replays there of that heat for black line 46601 is their time is the top of the standing so far their heat number five of 11 confirmation on your screens there of everybody’s times so far so this is Heat number six of the men’s
Team Sprint first round and it is Eastland V Manchester team a who take to the track now countdown is on approaching that 10 seconds to go Point top of the track there we have Matthew rotheram who will be the final Rider Tom Morris is in the gates and
Oliver alol is in Rider position number two we are underway and look at these huge gears that are being pushed off the line here the East Val Manchester team gets into formation down the back straight setting the time of 12.17 for that opening half lap and we
Are just coming into that Gap there apprach the end of lap number one and is a 1951 four that is an extremely quick opening lap we are well into lap number two here and Matt Ram is sat there in possession number three ready to be let go this team looks like they’re
Absolutely flying around now we have Matthew r on the screen he’s going to finish it off he looks like he is absolutely flying he rode the kilometer kilometer with Neil faky yesterday and he’s over the line in a 46.2 4 that is a new fastest time
That is our new fastest time indeed so taking almost 41 of a second off the time of black line is a 462 compared to 466 so it’s the Eastern Val Manchester team a who are currently leading our men’s team Sprint first round yes you’d expect Matthew rodon to be the third
Rider when he he has such a long Sprint doesn’t he from the from the kilo training on the tandem with Neil faky it uh it’s amazing to see tandem Pilots transition between the para and the individual events yeah yeah time on time on the solo bike racing as individuals
But um benefited from all that time on the tandem all the the the extra Mash you’re trying to move off the line from a tandem and the skills as well you develop from racing on a tandem we’ve course have tandem match sprinting as well we have tandem team Sprints that
We’ve seen at the World Championships so um very very skillful Riders these tandem pilots and it’s great to see them racing here on the solo bikes as well we are just getting our next team onto the track now it’s the Wales Racing Academy it is Joseph Colette who will be
Taking to the start in position number one in the gate we’re just seeing Harry mcnorton here about to get wheeled up to the line and it will be Stefan Lloyd as well who is the rider in position number two I’m Norton at the top the clock is
Already counting down once that rider in the gate is in position and good to go the Comm says give the indication for the clock to start and that starts counting down beep at 10 seconds and then beeps from five through to one and off we go and we are underway the Wales Racing
Academy burst out that start gate for this opening lap Joseph collet there really strong down that back straight everybody’s out the saddle let’s get that first time check it’s 11 .9 dipping under that 12 second barrier for that first half lap that’s wait for this full
Lap time here and it is a 192 so absolutely right up there with our best times that we’ve seen so far yeah brilliant time only started H tracks like thing a year ago Joseph call it I was wondering who is this I’ve not seen him before brilliant lap two as well
From Stephan Lloyd and finishing off with the tandem Raider again Harvey mcon who we seen in the kilometer yesterday this is it final lap now racing all the way to the line here for mcnorton for the Wales Racing Academy is a 46.1 189 and you can hear the crowds
Delighted that they have taken .015 off the time from the EAS vow Manchester team a so they are now at the top of our leaderboard ever so tight in these standings here for the men’s team Sprint yeah they look like a a well- drilled team that Welsh Racing Academy and their coach Rebecca
Draper she is actually sorry Rachel dra I’m getting her mixed up with her sister be I’m friends with them both and Rachel dra is absolutely smashed being the Welsh cycling coach for H for the Sprint it’s the whole Sprint program the development the women the men’s and the
Role that she has to take on from being an ex- Rider H has been amazing she was actually H coaching a lot of the the Welsh development writers who came through and are now on the program that the females but she’s now in charge of
The of the men and the Juniors as well she’s doing a great job as a coach for the Welsh team she certainly is and they lead the standing so far we now have our enhanced team up on the track at the moment it is Bo mayor number 78 who is
In the gate joined by his teammates Benjamin Gil and Oliver Peter as well part of this team wait into our final 20 seconds now before we will get underway and they have seen some very fast times go on the board before them it is lovely and warm in this Manchester valam which track
Cyclists absolutely Ely love really Bodwell for some very fast times here today and we are underway hugely impressive start there for B number 78 for enhance and you can see him powering away out the saddle down the back straight time check there for the first lap is 11. 212 that is supremely fast
Time check for the lap here and it’s an 18.3 wow wow wow he is on fire that is such a rapid lap one you can see they’re coming round now they’re looking like they’ve been slingshot from that first lap only one lap to go now this is
It final lap and is right at number 95 Oliver P who has got the job here of finishing this off into the final half lap being spurred on by the crowds here in the Manchester V Dr cheering him down the home straight and it is a 45.74 five on the
Line they have taken 410 of a second off the time of the Wales racy Academy brilliant brilliant that was that was beautiful to watch wasn’t it it looked like a well drilled machine there they worked well together and I’m sure that they they’ve been practicing and training and the
More practice you get in this event the more the more you get out of it so it all comes down to how you feel on race day and uh if you can execute it then as well holding your nerves ping a nerve indeed so I think any event
That starts from a standing start from the start gate always very nervous moments an event that is won and lost by such tiny margins as well you can see on the standings here the tiny margins separating various teams that was Heat number eight of 11 that we’ve just had we’re now appr
Number nine which will be team inspired number two so we have two team inspired here this morning in Manchester Riders from the Great Britain cycling team taking to the track and this is Joe Truman R number 122 it’s an important year for the British cycling team and they’ll be aiming to post Fast
Times so this is Joe Truman who is having his bike put in the gate at the moment very much part of the Great Britain cycling team setup we saw recently the European championships he took fourth place in the kilometer time he’s there with the green green hope bike in the start gate
And just being joined by his teammates on the line now it’s quite cool seeing the those bikes it’s it’s quite cool seeing those bites with the color on it I’m used to see British cycling with the all black bikes but H we’ve got some BT bikes here and they’re sporting all different bikes
But yeah the Lotus whole bike there looks beautiful in the Star Gate so we’re approaching 10 seconds to go Truman looking very relaxed in the gate just get himself pumped up ready for that full gas effort and we are underway Joe Truman powering away out that gate looking to
Set a very fast opening lap here let’s get that half lap time check and is a 10.8 to4 he is blowing the competition away here let’s see that full lap time and it is a 17. 637 that is our first team to dip under that 18 second barrier
Wow wow wow he’s absolutely flown there and P2 has come through flying transitioning the last Rider there Harry radford’s going to finish it off for that team inspired number two coming around into the Home Street what time are they going to post he’s fighting the
Bike now coming up to the line oh a time of 44. 617 1 second1 128 ahead of the rest of the field well they have blown the competition the way haven’t they and we are not even at the end of our qualifying session yet so that was Heat
Number nine of 11 that was team inspired number two we have Team inspired number one to come in final heat still just seeing the lunge for the line there from Harry Radford completing that time of 44.6 17 so you can see on your screen there they are the top of our
Standings currently 11 teams racing fastest eight teams to qualify they know they will be through to the semi-finals but of course waiting to see where they will finish in these standings juel did you ever do a a team Sprint I mean I’ve done them in training it’s it’s very nervous nous because it’s
It’s won and lost by such tiny amounts and you know that if you mess up at that start you can ruin it for all your teammates and that is the the pressure on your shoulders get on the wheel you of course know a lot about team sprinting oh love love the team Sprint
Uh I would have loved to have given it a go as the three the three for the women I uh I was competing when it was only two and I was always P2 in the the team Sprint I I didn’t I had a good start but
I had I was better at finishing and uh remember my team Sprint partner Jenny Davis she was a Powerhouse and she would always absolutely fly out the gates and I was just trying to get on our wheel from the start which propelled me forward for the second that’s what it’s
All about you had a Comm withth Games medal silver medal yeah yeah that’s I remember it well remember watching it on TV yeah sleep s with it under my pillow since then as you should enjoy so the Glasgow Track Racing Club are on your screens at the moment Isaac
Small is in the gate ready to get underway for Heat number 10 we’ve got Lewis Arthur in second position there and in third we’ve got William Munday so what can they do are they going to post a faster time than 44. 617 11.8 for that opening half let’s get
That full lap time check get a 19.2 remember we saw 17.6 from Team Inspire 2 just now which really is blowing every away halfway through here Le Arthur is on the front now for the Glasgow track racing club and he swings up and his teammate William Munday is through for
This final lap half a lap to go now in a world of pain but a wonderful crowd here in this Manchester Val bright early on a Saturday morning ready to cheer him on is a 46405 that is enough for fifth place overall looking like they’re going to qualify
With that time so we’ll be happy with that Al the top eight teams that qualify only got one more to go team inspired number one the effort that it takes to get onto the wheel of the person in front of you the is is so massive and then I’m just
Thinking about Rider Number three’s effort that they have to finish off the ride literally when the Riders peel off from in front of you it is like hitting a brick wall and if you can just carry on as much momentum as possible that really helps and it all depends where
You are when the rider in front of you moves out of the way it’s all about timing so team inspired number one are coming up onto the track now we are already have Ed l in the gate Rider number 75 for team inspired with his teammate
Just coming up to the line now in position numbers two and three inside our final 10 seconds now it’ll be Harry leing Mahal in position number three Ed low leads them out the gate powerful start here into that First Banking and this team are looking good a
Couple of small gaps that’s all okay at this stage and it is a 10.6 opening half what a rapid opening half and now let’s see this full lap time here Ed low setting a time of 17379 that is our quickest open opening lap so far Hayden Norris now leads for lap number
Two going to look to give a strong delivery there to Harry leing Mahorn who we saw up yesterday in the Sprint competition taking that bronze medal on the bike now powering through here for this final lap of this team spring qualifying what is the time going to be on the line 43.
684 and that is our quickest Time by 9/10 per second from Team inspired number two well that team looked like they had it all under control didn’t they and it’s all about how you feel on race day having practice together you actually never know watching it do they
Actually practice as a team do they they will be practicing as a team in training but also in different starting positions they might be thinking okay you’re going to go best in this team in position two you’re going to go best best in position one and you’re going to go best in
Position three so it’s really it’s important to get lots of training practice just to find out what suits you best and they’ll be triling all this in the year leading up to the Olympics so really important racing experiences for all these riders in the Championships yeah competition is on to
Get those spots in the team Sprint score for both men and women one of the events that’s easier to measure of course we get a lot of data from training data and racing data so any opportunity you have to race a team Sprint in competition like we’ve got
Here at the national championships with that gated start of course you can do this in training but it’s not the same having a number on your back the change in that psychology you know all about this Charlene having the crowd in here the warmth of the Val Drome can make all
The difference definitely it’s it’s how you can hold your nerve in your pre-race rituals whether you’re listening to camming music music or music that’s going to rev you on it’s all about the preparations and uh yeah mentally how you’re feeling on the day as well and I
Think that’s what’s changed I feel like writers are now having a better balance in life they’re more relaxed it used to be when we were racing and the kind of setup in the British cycling was quite military no don’t smile or else but it’s completely changed it’s it’s actually
Been a delight to watch over the years and it’s a lot more relaxed I mean it’s still um you know they still want the results but H there’s there’s a lot more support for the Riders psychologically and um on and off the bike so it’s beautiful to to see ex Riders come in
And and provade what they need yeah we’ve got a really strong contingent of coaches in the GB cycling team mix of EX Riders as well very much part of that and your next event that is coming up on the track will be the women’s individual Pursuit qualifying so we will have three
Kilometer race we’ve got six Heats two Riders per heat the top two from qualify will race for gold with third and fourth will race for the bronze Joanna Joanna this is your this was your event was past past tense past T you love this and um tell us go and
Tell me a little bit cuz I it was never my event like what does it take to to ride this event yeah so you’ve got three kilometers completely on your own 12 laps of the track around the bottom um this is an event where you need to get
Yourself up to speed from a standing start so it requires high peak power output that of course can easily fill fill your legs with lactic acid um but the problem is then you need to settle in and race the rest of the 3 km as fast
As you can the key is not to start too fast the key is to try most Riders try and ride at a consistent speed throughout we have seen a change recently where some Pursuit Riders I’m thinking of people like Philip Orana that ride at more like negative splits
So start a little bit more conservatively then wind it up towards the end back in my day I hate using that phrase back in my day we didn’t tend to use it we tend to ride a sort of consistent speed throughout you know so you get up to speed and that that speed
Early on feels doable but by the final kilo you’re tending yourself inside out to hold on to that yeah but I do see more Riders now really try and ramp it up towards the end so we will see what uh schedules and tactics are used here in the qualifying
Yeah it’s really interesting and these Raiders such as Philip Ghana he’s come from road so you’re wondering whether it’s okay they’re conserving their energy in the first four laps they know that they’re just going to get faster and faster and faster cuz they’ve got the endurance and they can go that speed
For a lot a long time all sorts of ice approach an individual Pursuit this is Heat number one we’re about to get underway here in the back straight we’re just seeing Millie Thompson there for solar cycling in the home street we have Charlotte hodin bur for D handling bikes the
Beautiful thing about Pursuit Racing as well if you’re watching is that split screen and you’ve got the pursuit Lane which is halfway down the the street and you can see how far in front one Rider is in front of the other it’s a really exciting race especially when it’s close
Because that can just yoyo back and forward which we have a lot so it’ll be interesting to see both Raiders starting off fairly fast so lucky enough to have access to the qualifying time submitted for this event so Charlotte kins burn submited a time of
349 and it was a 347 for Millie Thompson so that was their best times since January last year so within the last year essentially that they submitted in order to qualify for these championships and we will look at what the split is once we are kilometer in looks like Millie Thompson is just
Slightly ahead no it’s hin brain just a slight issue there perhaps Thompson just taking her hand off the bars but she looks to have settled in again now Charlotte Hoskins bur is leading early on here though and she is gaining on her opponent she will have
Her in her sight now now this is the best thing that can happen in individual Pursuit having somebody to Chaser having somebody in your Sreet but oh no problems for Millie Thompson because she has swung up the track so we’re lucky enough to be in here in the Val mil
Thomson has swung up the track is not completing a qualifying ride Charlotte hinb has come through underneath and she continues Melly Thompson has decided to come off the track so I’m not sure there’s a technical problem there we will find out for you as soon as we
Possibly can and let you know yeah I’m sure what happened there she’s looking down to her crank so possibly a technical issue but it’s all about the qualifying time here and Charlotte hodkin Brin is going to be trying to pull as fast a time as possible it can
Be a little diffic a little a little bit more difficult posting a fast time in the morning and because by the time it gets to the evening the with all the people in the track and the heating’s been on all day the air pressure can can
Lower so the fact that yesterday we had some between two and 5 Seconds faster posted in the evening than it was in the morning so it’s all about trying to get that fast time in the morning when your legs are a little bit sleepy yeah legs are a little bit asleep but this
Qualifying time is Key you need to be in that top two if you want to race for the goal third and fourth will race for bronze riders in fifth to eth Position will race a minor final so they will get a second ride which I think is really
Important at this level to be able to come up on the track and ride twice you know if you traveled all the way to Manchester huge events you ride that IND individual purs you don’t quite make the top four but it still gives you the opportunity to do another ride and try
And put another time on the board perhaps improve personal best well she’s coming round now and she’s only got one lap to go this is where the legs feel like they’re going to fall off so the crowd’s really getting behind her the crowd are getting behind her and
He did lonely ride out there now on her own nobody to chase down unfortunately for Charlotte Hoskins B but she’s coming around for this final lap crowdy much full in this Home Street a lot of people in here today watching these national championships and she comes over the line it’s a three
49.8 and that is The Benchmark time average speeds 46.9 km an hour for 3 km so 3 49.8 for this 3 km individual Pursuit word is from the UCI that the women’s event will increase to 4 km from 2025 uh as will the 500 meter time J increase to the kilometer distance um
That was announced last more than a year ago I’ve not heard much about it since it’s something that’s come with sort of mixture section from Riders some very happy some less happy and it’s quite a difference you know adding that extra kilometer on and it will it will suit a different type of
Rider probably more the more the road based time based Rider which you know opens up the track racing to a lot of those Road Pros but perhaps not so much for the real pure track Specialists that are more the sort of middle distance athlete that you might call them in
Athletics but yeah anyway here we are 3 kmers it is for now that can be that’s a next year probably are individual Pursuit that’ll be interesting to see the the times that they post start because it was the same with the women’s team Sprint when it
Moved from two to three and uh and in every year there’s just faster times that are posted because the women will just be understanding the event and knowing how to ride it tactically they certainly was all about learning your way through those changes in distances Heat number two up on the
Track now in the back straight we have Robin clay who you can see on your shot now in the home straight is Lucy Glover we are underway out the start gate getting that big gear up to speed of course we not seeing the same quite such powerful starts as we
See in the team Sprint because you want to get up to speed as efficiently as possible you don’t necessarily want to do it all in that first quarter of the lap you want to get yourself nicely on top of that gear without expending quite too much energy and then get into this
Aerodynamic position then after that you want to be hugging the black line the bottom of the track the shortest distance round the vome far easier said than done of course tucked into this are position when you’re in a world of pain towards the end of an individual Pursuit
Riding a bike in a straight line is far more difficult than you might imagine yes and you now we’re starting to see Riders really try to get tactics in terms of how aerodynamic can you be and you can see the riter on the screen now Lucy Glover she is almost not looking
Forward she’s looking down at that black line and that is um her hands are almost in front of her eyes and it’s she’s using her peripheral vision and yes yesterday we seen some of the pursuit Riders sort of come up to the red line in the in the back in Home Street would
You say that it’s a good thing to do did you do that or do you think just hugging that black Lane I think it depends on the V drone it depends how fast you’re going so the faster you going the more the more difference these things can
Make but yeah the idea is to try and make the track more bow shaped more circular than oval so the Manchester valy has got quite nice Dimensions to it so the Glasgow Val Dr is more of an oval shape it’s longer straights and Tighter Bings that the Manchester V is already
Quite smooth to rise probably less necessary on this vome um but but you get personal preference and Riders will do that testing they they look at their times they look at their power if they’re lucky to have enough to have SRM cranked on their bike and see which
Makes the difference here we’re seeing Robin clay at the moment her opponent is Lucy Glover both Young Riders Lucy GL is 18 years old Robin clay 20 years old their qualifying times for Lucy Clover was a 346 and for Robin clay was a 343 those are their times that they
Submitted when they entered the competition so they could have gone quicker in training before that we don’t know but looking to improve on those times in the official competition environment Lucy Glover is ahead no Robin Cay is ahead of the race and you can see that when we have the split scream
She’s almost got she’s almost got her Rider in sight actually coming out of turn two just a few more meters Robin clay will just about have Lucy Glover in her sights just seeing the encouragement there from the coach for Lucy Glover Here Comes Robin clay just going round the banking now as
She exits the banking she will now almost certainly have Lucy Glover just about in her sights so you can see here on this wide shot of the V Drome how much of a difference it makes just just having that character chase aerodynamically you will just
About be in that not fully in the slip stre but you’ll be benefiting from the circulating air of the rider ahead of you but the psychological advantage of having that Rider’s Chase and the psychological blow for the other Rider to hear that Bell Rong before their own
Bell knowing that they’ve got a rider coming up behind them final lap now for both of these Riders keep an eye on the clock looks like we’re going to see some huge personal bests here robing play down the back straight and it is a 337 six that has taken a huge chunk of
Her time that she submitted for qualification for this event and it is a 345 for Lucy Glover so both riding personal best from the data that we have available to us so excellent rides there from both Riders so there you go are standing so far for the women’s individual Pursuit
Qualifying is a 337 point6 of Robin clay Who currently leads our standings from Lucy Clover and Charlotte hinb it was uh not finishing for Millie Thompson in the first seat we’ll wait to see if she’s given the opportunity to ride later on in the competition so watch this space for
That heat number three is now about to come up to the start line rer number 68 in your shot at the moment is coming onto her bike in the home straight this is Victoria Smith from the Alba development Road team and she’ll be up against Matilda gurny from the
University of Nottingham Cycling Club who will be in the back straight countdown clock has started we’re inside 30 seconds now we’ll get that gradual hush of the crowd as we get into those final 10 seconds yeah there’s nothing worse than H the crowd getting behind
Five four 3 two one and then you miss they’re out of sink yeah they’re right sink and then you go too early 10 seconds to go very knowledgeable crowd here in Manchester very impressed how many people are here bright and early this morning for the 9:30 start and we get
Underway both riders coming out of the gate cleanly there gradually getting on top of this gear Mattel Dy looking very classy in her all black kit there getting into her position elbows tucked in and and settling into her Pace usually there’s a coach and they both have coaches in the
Same place they’re just past the finish line or just in in the opposite side just at the end of the the the back straight and they’re reallying information onto them what was your preference you in terms of like did you like an iPad or did you like someone
Walking the line I quite like somebody walking the line so basically your coach is your stop watch so unlike a road time you’ve got no computer on your bike where you can read data you can’t see your speed your C your heart rate your power any of that um all you’ve got is
Your coach giving your indication by the side of the track and yeah like you say you get lots of different tactics from coaches some will some will be standing there shouting encouragement and shouting lap splits some will use the iPad to display the lap split uh we also
See the tactic of walking the line which is essentially where you you pick a lap split Before the Race that you want to ride so let’s picking around the number a 17c lap if you had a 16.9 second lap they will take a step up into indicating
That you’re too fast and if you at a 17.1 they will take a step down indicating that you’re a bit too slow those sound like tiny margins but the art of pursuiting is is knowing how to judge your lap Pace within a tenth of a seconds um which when you’re well
Practiced at it and spend a lot of time on the track does become more familiar yeah come race day legs are fresh Crowds Are In Here cheering you on full of adrenaline as far as I can go completely out the window so you’re very grateful for your coach to be there to just
Indicate if you have started way too fast or way too slow so very very useful to have have that feedback from a coach uh if you can so if they’re walking towards you it means you’re too slow too slow yeah I just had in my head like coach walking towards
Meet bad coach walking away from Meet good coach up by the phip in the banking really good co coaching the banking as I exit it really bad um and that was sort of my my gauge and you know pursuing is all about feel and you’ve got to get
Through 12 laps you’re pacing yourself and you know you know when you get to you know halfway through am I going too fast this is a pace I can continue if you’re thinking yes I can easily continue this you’re probably not going hard enough if you’re thinking I can no
Way continue this you’re going too hard and if you’re thinking I’m not sure that’s probably about right of course Very subjective measurements there to go off the I’m not sure voice in your head um during a pit but that’s probably the most basic way of explaining it for
Anybody that hasn’t had the the lack of racing an individual Pursuit themselves it’s a very painful ride out there very painful you loved the pain though I sort of die I I was seeing yesterday I would have loved to have ridden a Colter but looking at the racing here we’ve got oh
It’s actually a really close race this is a really close seat so very closely seated Riders so Victoria Smith’s qualifying time is a 3:42 Matilda G’s qualifying time was a 341 that their PB submitted from the previous year so we were expecting a close r on paper and
Just there o barely anything in it as we come into this final lap keep an eye on the clock is a personal best Insight Victoria Smith just in the lead at the moment and let’s see these times on the line it is a 3 39.8 for Victoria Smith and a
34.4 for Matilda gurny so both bettering their personal best from their qualifying time submitted for this competition it’s always good to yeah it’s great to come to a competition and post a PB that’s what you’re looking for as a writer just to get consistently faster H you’re not going to be able to
Do that every ride and in training it all comes down to your taper and um basically a taper is when you you’ve trained really really hard then you can of ease off before competition to allow all the hard work to just soak into the muscles rest let it all soak in and then
Hopefully with a little bit of speed work a little bit of resting and activation work you can you can use everything you’ve all your training and it comes together on race day but getting that taper right for race day can be really challenging and you might have to it might be different for
Everyone okay my taper is I need to do a really really hard ride the week before or it could be I need to rest for like two weeks and it’s completely different for every wrer what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for the other it is and also that can change
Throughout your career as well as you get older as you’ve got more sort of hours worth of training in the legs more years worth of training and you know what worked one year won’t then work the subsequent year so you’re always learning as an athlete always making those adjustments as you
Go so our Rider is up on the track now for Heat number four we have number 45 Grace Lista and number 46 Caris Lloyd two very closely matched Riders again and we are underway just seeing Grace lisst there taking to the start back straight is Carris Lloyd so from their qualifying time submitted
Grace lit’s personal bestes are 34.6 and for Caris Lloyd it’s a 3 39.2 so just over a second separating them from their personal best from the last year so two very closely matched Riders this is what I love about Pursuit is when it’s close you can have them
Yo-yoing in front of one in front of the other in terms of it when you look at the pursuit line here we’ve got on the screen we’ve got Caris lloy just marginally ahead of of Grace Lister and that’s what makes Pursuit riding exciting looking at that Pursuit line
And seeing the difference between the two Riders and it can change as we said before some Riders are now starting off slore and uh others are finishing are starting fast trying to hold on to it so it just depends on what type of raider you are certainly does so I’m just catching
Sight here of Coach Chris Newton who is track side for Grace liser just giving her indication of how she’s doing on her Pace just seeing her as she comes around down the home straet both supremely talented young riders that we’ve got on the track here very exciting future prospects ahead of them
Looks like Grace Lista is just up on her Pace at the moment that she wants to set and Caris Lord is just down on her preferred qualifying Pace judging by the coaches walking the line you see there coach Chris just about a step or so up from the start
Finish line for the pursuit did you already and then we have Caris ly go through camera’s back on Grace list now just down on Pace that time we’ve got five laps to go for both of these Riders so approaching that final kilometer now this is the point in the
Race where it is really hurting but you’re not close enough to the Finish to really be thinking about that final Sprint for the line which we inside the final two laps you’re like I’ve only got two laps to go five laps to go is is
Quite a miserable place to be in a lot of the time but we now safely inside that final kilo psychologically is a huge help there yeah you know that the end is in sight you’ve given it your all to stay at the pace and now it’s just
Pretty much emptying the tank to leave that little bit for the last half lap oh look how close our two Riders there on the line absolutely nothing in it about two ten of a second separating Lista and Lloyd as they go over the line inside our final two laps now is C
Lloyd who’s who’s slightly ahead at the moment and we are waiting to get the Bell that will come very soon for these Riders they’ll be eagerly awaiting that sound but it is now Caris Lloyd who was just drawing out a lead here over Grace Lista the bell sound in the back
Straight now in the home straight Carris Lloyd is in the lead of this heat as she is in her final lap now half a lap to go and it is now up to four seconds the difference you’ll just about have listen in her sight as she comes in towards the
Finish and it is a 339 for Caris Lloyd and for Grace L it is a 344 wow that was a very close race early on but towards the end Caris L really came into her own there in that final kilometer yes Sprint finish there from Caris Lloyd to to be able to increase
The pace when your legs are so full of lactic acid is H really impressive but Grace liser wasn’t able to to hold on to that pace and uh she was almost fighting the bike in the end trying to get as much energy as possible and as much power through the pedals to propeler
Forward but it just wasn’t enough to hold on to that pace and you know what happens like in the end of that Pursuit it’s so difficult to to hold on to it and it all depends on how you’re feeling on the day certainly does so our standings there Caris ly 3 39.7 puts
Her in second place so far is Robin clay who’s up in Heat number two who still has the fastest time and now we have heat number five coming up onto the track so in the home stet we can see on our screens here it’s meline leech representing plus Wahoo in the
Back straight it will be Izzy sharp representing Le Tre so M Le already a silver medalist yesterday from that scratch race which you were lucky enough to be here for Charlene yes it was incredible because she she came off the back of that scratch race and was
Straight into the team Pursuit busy busy evening um but yeah she she had a really good Sprint finish in the in the scratch to not quite pip Jenny Hall who that finish was incredible to hold on to the win there but she did a good job to to get
Second and we are underway out the start gate just seeing Izzy sharp here in the back straight in that little track kit first year Cena already part of a world tour team very very exciting young Rider we’ve got a lot of young Talent out on the track at the moment very exciting
Time to be part of the Great Britain sort of women setup in general across the ages we’ve got a lot of strength and depth now definitely and H I love the the colors of this kit it’s almost retro isn’t it um yes it’s it’s a different style of a
Of almost design from from other skin from other H colors that we see in the pelons you can see it you can see it very well it stands out it’s good for good for commentators and for you watching at home as well yeah especially in a bunch on the road the little track
Kit very very distinctive so let’s see where we’re at currently very closely matched so far looks like there’s any about a tenth of a second separating these two Riders and I wonder like what you’ve said before in terms of she’s now a road Rider as sharp she’s well she’s
Doing the track but she’s on a world tour team on the road I wonder if she’s going to f finish Fast like those endurance Riders I think that will be really interesting we know she’s a really strong time tralis as well of course so looking forward to seeing how
She Paces that final kilometer at the moment Maddy leech is just in the lead here I can just see her coach Chris need to take a couple of steps up on the pursuit line so showing she’s slightly up on Pace at the moment as he sharp looking so so smooth
On the bike at the moment it’s it’s beautiful to watch when the pedaling technique just looks effortless yeah it’s really interesting to watch the the position these ridders are holding so an aerodynamic position but still being really solid just putting that power through the pedals no lateral movement
On the bike and also you can see here holding that black line and just dipping under that black line which you know if you can do it do it you know absolutely excellent taking that shortest route around the track there for M leech definitely there used to be foam blocks
Out so you really did not want to be going below the black line you didn’t want to set that to fate no you didn’t so coach encouragement there for Maddy leech as she comes over the line our camera is just focusing on her at the moment and
She is gaining on Izzy shot we can see on this wide shot on the track you won’t quite have her in her sight at the moment but melin leech is gaining on Izzy sharp getting some encouragement there from coach Chris Newton on the line and it is about 2 seconds now that
Separate these two Riders we’re approaching our final two laps of racing so this is where it is really hurting but you can smell the finish at this point and that is so motivating you see that two on that lapboard you know that you’re in the final 500 meters of the
Race yeah it’s the pain time isn’t it it’s gret your teeth and just push as hard as you can down on the pedals it’s almost like you’re seen Stars you’re very much of seeing stars and you’re trying to keep the bik going in a straight line so MD bee over the line
There just under two seconds behind there for Izzy sharp at the moment expecting a strong finish from sharp but leech very much in the lead in this final lap coming round out of the bank now over the line and it’s a 3 [Applause] 35.0 and in the back is a 3
36.4 for Izzy sharp so sharp gaining a bit of time there towards the end just has taken the difference down to 1.4 seconds but Maddy leech is our fastest qualifier so far absolutely phenomenal rides by these two Riders and the Improvement that they’ve made in a year has just been
Phenomenal they’re just going to keep getting faster and faster now it’s great experience coming to the British Nationals and just getting used to that race experience as me as much as you can you need to be racing when you’re younger and getting the experience not only of racing the
Bike but being in that competition environment how do you warm up things like that yeah how do you respond to things when there’s a delay in the program there’s a full start there’s a crash all these things that you you know you don’t get them in training you know
You can just do your training and go home but the the anything that can sort of cause delays or cause um any sort of change to what what you might have you know you might have planned your schedule perfectly for your warm up working back from the time of your race
But things happen things can and do happen all the time so being able to be adaptable enough to to deal with those and still carry on with the racing so now we have our final heat coming up onto the track now our cameras right now are on Kate Richardson riding for Life
Plus waho she is in the home straight really exciting young Rider we saw her in action the track Champions League this winter getting stuck in with some of the best Riders on the track in the world and she will be up against Frankie Hall in the backstraight Frankie Hall a
Great Pursuit great time trialist and will be looking to to post a fast time today as will Kate Richardson I mean Kate Richardson has come from Triathlon only a few years ago it’s been wonderful to watch her develop through the standings now on the development program and uh and doing
Extremely well winning races at uh class one events uh UCI class one events it’s it’s been a a pretty high standard fast trajectory she’s come into cycling from uh from Triathlon and just taken to really really like a duck and water certainly both of these Riders have had bronze medals in this
Competition from Frank Hall took the bronze last year Kate Richardson took the bronze in 2022 so they’ll both be looking to make it through to that gold medal final this evening and we are underway our fastest two Riders will race for the goldes are fastest so far so that is the
Time to beat some setup on a Frankie Hall’s bike there with h the handle bars almost pointing up never used to have that as much in our day they’re really pointing upwards and it means that she can just tuck in behind the handlebars and almost get into a position maybe to
To be able to pull on the bars and get more power out of it yeah and it’s looking at that sort of frontal area as well if you’re thinking headon that you know when you’re hitting the wind trying to get that as aerodynamic as possible and these Riders will have had the
Benefit of spending time in a wind tunnel perhaps or doing testing on the track making sure they’re in a position that is absolutely as aerodynamic as possible but still able to put the power out and that’s always that interesting conversation of um do you have to sacrifice any power for your position
Hopefully not hopefully you can you know have the most Arrow position possible and still put out power in that position yeah we can see some pretty pretty crazy positions at the professional level as well it’s all about practicing getting what suits you as a Raider and you’ll see lots of different
Positions okay Richardson is leading this heat currently so our cameras are just focus on her the moment as she comes down the back straight she’s going to come around now to her coach Chris Newton who I’ve Just Seen there you go on the screen take a step up so showing
She’s a tenth of a second up on her pace for that lap so very very minor adjustments at this level when you see your coach take a step up that is barely anything so you don’t want to back off the pedals by any means but you don’t
Want to continue driving on too hard we’re right in the middle of this race six laps done six laps to go psychologically you know you’re in the second half but you’ve not got that safety of that final kilo those final two laps where you can really turn
Yourself inside out this middle kilo is really key in an individual Pursuit can you carry on that pace can you keep putting the power down that head versus legs your head is telling your your legs are telling you to stop your head is saying I want to keep going I want to
Get that personal best you got to have that internal battle with yourself yeah it’s that battle that you you don’t always win but you’re trying your best to just keep on top of the gear and the lactic acid in the legs the warning that you feel everything that you’re doing at
That moment is telling your body to stop but you you just keep going and that’s what it is to be to be an athlete isn’t it it’s how much pain can you endure especially in this event yeah day after day training then another level again on race day just seeing about two
Seconds opening up between Kate richon and Frankie Hall here Kate richon there for Life plus who just coming round to see two laps to go this time coach CHR just getting himself low down there giving some encouragement to Kate Richardson and she won’t quite have Franky Hall in her sights we’re lucky
Enough to be here in the Vel Drome right up in the stands being able to see exactly what’s going on and although she is gaining on Hall she won’t quite have her in her sights there but final lap now and Kate richon is powering away in
This last lap a PB is in her sights what can this final time be can she get herself a play is in that gold medal final top two automatically qualify for the gold and silver ride off and what is it going to be and it is a 329 wow 3
29.25 five for Kate richon a 3 32.2 for Frankie Hall absolutely Spectacular times from both [Applause] Riders wow what a final heat we had in the women’s individual Pursuit so these are your standings from the women’s individual Pursuit qualifying Kate Richardson leaves with a 3 29.2 Frankie H second with a
332 M Le 335 Izzy Shar 336 they will be our four rers that will race off for our medals later on this evening first and second for gold third and fourth for bronze where as fifth to e8th will also have a second Rise they will get to go
Again for the minor finals so all back up in action later on this evening so our program moves on and we will be back to women’s Sprint it’s the quarterfinals coming up now four quarterfinals winner of each heat qualifies for the semi-finals three lap race as we’ve seen before for the Sprint
Competitions lot of tactics at play a lot of cat and mouse potentially and we’re just hearing some Applause from the crowd as our sprinters get ready for Heat number one of the women’s Sprint quarterfinals just seeing your heats up on the screen there on that graphic and
Rers have just been wheeled up to the line heat number one is Lauren Bell riding for team inspired she was our fastest qualifier this morning our only Rider to dip under that 11 second barrier with a 10.84 five and she will be against Stephanie Hall who rode an
Excellent race earlier on and has got herself through to the quarterfinal stage Stephanie Hall qualifying in eighth place with 11. 723 so on paper Lauren Bell the quicker Rider by almost a second in that flying 200 but we have seen Stephanie Hall racing really well
So H is at the black back here in the black kit Lauren Bell is at the front in the green kit with the Union Jack representing team inspired arella World Championship medalist in the team Sprint very much going for selection for the Olympic Games this summer H just taking the opportunity to
Come underneath there and taking the lead in this Sprint heat Lauren Bell is not going to let that go easily though and she comes back underneath again right as a side by side at the moment out the saddle down the back straight we’re going to get the Bell this time
Around as we come into the home straight Bell is Keen to have that final line there goes the Bell final lap of racing that one Hall goes high up the track excellent tactics there swoops down gets on the wheel of Lauren Bell but Lauren Bell is too powerful here
Down the back straight seated acceleration and she draws out a bike length on her opponents down she goes over the line nicely done for Lauren Bell so Heat number one of our quarterfinals and it is Lauren Bel of Team inspired who takes that win very convincing there Stephanie Hall
Gave it a really good go tactically though Staying High with a Lap to go swooping down pushing Lauren Bell down that back straight been the end too much power for Lauren Bell job done number two is just getting ready to come to the track now and we have our second fastest qualifier
Who will come up on the track is ranne Edmonds against Anna Whitworth hay Anna Whitworth he posting a time of 117 it’s almost a second slower than Rian Edmond so we’ll have to see what she can pull out the bag tactics wise we’ve got ran Edmonds
On the top of the track and then in front we’ve got Anna Whitworth he so both Riders starting out slow and this is a part of the race where you can almost Play Mind Games it’s like the cat and mouse it’s the part of the race where you’re like okay can I maneuver
Behind the the Raider in front of me and almost get into their head do some ducking and Diving some sometimes you see Riders doing this and um we’ve not seen it so far Riders are wanting to stay safe and and move towards the the next round but it’s very
Exciting when we do see them trying different things ran Edmund’s just moving up the track Anna Whitworth he trying to pin her up the top of the banking that is really really interesting to see and that can play Mind Games as well both Riders just gaining momentum on the
Track Edmond’s going high there but in the slip stream of Whitworth hay we’re about to get the bell for the final lap Edmund’s choosing to go high on the track here can the seem counter intive but she swoops down we go over the 200 met line and she has got the power here
Comes around the outside of Whitworth hey down that back straight and she has gone a bike length clear she is two bike length clear and she is drawing out a huge Le there as she takes the victory on the line heat number two Edmund’s wins and that was just a display of
Using the track to the best of your ability she used the banking she used the height of the track to almost do a 200 M buildup and then used a slipstream to be slingshot around and a Whitworth ha and timed it to Perfection she’s on this track D and out training as well
She knows it well and uh yeah she used it to the best abilities to move on moving through to the semi-finals sorry it’s best of three so Anna Whitworth he has an opportunity to level it out in the next race yeah so our graphic on the screen
There just indicating who has won Heat number one of possible three of course if you win two job done no need for a decider extra rest going into the evening and the semi-finals and the finals so definitely an incentive to get the job done in two rides if you can so
Up on the track now Heat number three we have Amy Cole at the top of the track rer number 16 representing the raes racing Wales Racing Academy and I own a m of Team inspired who is rather a number 50 in that green Union Jack skin suit
A m just taking the lead position there the Riders just slowly round the track but Amy Cole is quite far back which will mean that AA Mo can see can see her opponent quite easily without having to creeker neck round too much the pace isn’t as slow as we’ve seen in the other
Races and that might be because they’re on slightly bigger gears they also want to make the race a little bit more proactive and uh yeah afraid of of tactics of getting it wrong sometimes when you’re on top of the gear and you wind it up there’s less room for
Uh something to go wrong basically yes so some Riders will will want to keep the race lower other Riders wanting the race will run off at a higher pace and it all depend you part of that is is what you’re good at as a rider but also
What is your opponent’s weakness so are you racing to your strengths or are you racing to their weaknesses so lots of think about really good support from the coaches in the track Center as well and we have got the Bell we’re into the final lap of this hereat and Amy cold
Has got a lot of power here coming around the outside both Riders swoop down it’s AA M who is in the lead at the moment Amy cool up onto the wheel alongside her opponent there Amy call around the outside coming out of turn
Has she got the power to do it no IA mu just hangs on there half a bike length on the line for M the thing with Manchester TR back is it has really long banking so you almost have to make your move a little bit earlier almost in the back straight
Because you know that you’re going to get slung out the banking and uh it’s a short straight so you’ve not got a lot of time to to make up room so you have to make your move before you get to the banking certainly do we just saw a
Replay there of heat number three of our quarterfinals and we now have heat number four coming up onto the track so top of your shot here you got Rider number 40 in the red that’s Kirsty Johnson up against Rider Number 58 who is Georgette Rand it’s only point two of
A second between these two Riders so we should get a really good tactical race um if there’s not much between you you want to be proactive you want to be making the first move and uh in control of the race yeah so far tighter on paper as we
We progressed down to heat number four so this could be very interesting tactically the whistle blows and we are underway already a kg start than we’ve seen in the previous Heats Rand is our Rider at the front who is setting the pace at the moment Johnson setting a bike couple of
Bike blanks off rant having a few looks over her shoulder checking where her opponent is checking she’s not going to be taking can by surprise in this heat Johnson just gets a little closer though just coming up the track a little bit almost just playing around working
Out is Rand going to respond how quickly is she going to respond is she keeping an eye on her or not yeah that’s Mind Games as well isn’t it and it’s trying to intimidate your opponent and that’s so important in this in the Sprint it’s can you get inside their heads and think
Listen I I want this and I’m going to show you that I want it because I’m going to play with your mind here we go Johnson in second position at the moment Rand is still leading and they’re both winding up they go at the bottom of the track at the moment both Riders
Staying low as I say that Johnson goes high right at the track swoops and uses that transition but Rand has a huge gap here down the back straight what can Johnson do can she get on terms as she is closing the Gap gradually is down to
A bike she’s got onto the wheel can she come around no Rand holds on takes Heat number four quarterfinal match a goes to Rand yes Johnson just left it a little bit too late to to make that to make to bridge across there to be slingshot around
She yeah she let Rand just get a little bit too far away there indid confirmation on the screen there of the result of quarterfinals Heat number four race one going to round best of three so we will be back with more women’s Sprint quarterfinal action after
Our next event our next event is the women’s individual Pursuit parah C1 to5 category for e so we can see on our screens now Katie Toof of the story racing team she will be our first Rider to take to the start for the women’s individual Pursuit for the parying categories C1 to
C5 her category is the C1 category we then have four Riders from the C2 category and two Riders from the C5 category times will be factored so it’s 100% of the times for the C5 Riders if you’re a C2 is an 88.2% factor and for C1 is
87.8% now my maths whil live on there isn’t quite good enough to do those sums quickly in my head but I’m sure our scoreboard will update quickly as needed to bring you the factor times it’s a 3 km race so we’re just getting the start gate out on the track
Now for the this individual Pursuit Katie Toof will be on her own in the first heat but after that heats 2 three and four there will be two Riders on the track at a Time Racing against each other we will eagerly await to see those times and see he will take our national
Title here this afternoon at the national Cycling Center so we’ve got Katy Toof just being helped up onto the track for Heat number one distance of 3,000 m 12 laps of the track posting the quickest time possible just getting clipped in there glancing up to the timing
Board she’s got 15 seconds to go getting in the zone has opted for drop bars here here and she is out of the gate she’s pushing down on those pedals aiming to get on top of the gear getting settled into the saddle now in the back straight and really pressing down onto
The pedals to get on top of that gear she’s coming down round for her first lap now with 11 laps to go the Crowder behind her it is a very lonely lonely world out there when you don’t have someone on the other side of the track so it’s nice to have the
Manchester crowd behind her it’s very very difficult out there on their [Applause] own and she’s got her coach behind the start Finish Line with a tablet this is the technique that she’s opted for and they are work they’ve obviously been working on in training he’s got a tablet
And it’s got numbers on it depending on whether she’s ahead of schedule or whether she’s behind she’ll see that and now coming [Applause] through she is on schedule it looks like this is a long way to go around for these Riders it’s very very challenging with if you imagine someone else on the
Other side of the track is spurring you on to go you’re almost trying to catch them or stay ahead of them at at the pursuit line elbows bent there trying to get as aerodynamic as possible and sometimes the Riders opt for the drop bars for more control over the bike as well she’s
Got a a five spoke wheel in front rather than double discs just to allow her more control over the bike and we’ll see that as we move through the different categories and um we’ll see different setups but of course every Rider not every Rider you’re going to see their
Time is going to be their time they’re going to have a factor time so it’ll all depend on their category and we’ll let you know the factor time as soon as we get them through she’s in the back stet coming through for five laps to go now and as
Joel said in the previous Pursuit races this is where you don’t want to be in a Pursuit five laps to go it’s not quite in the final kilometer you know you’ve still got a few laps to go before you can give it full Pelt empty the tank it
Is burning in the legs it’s all about Mind Games as well your mind saying no well your mind saying go your legs are saying no actually she’s coming around now with one kilometer to go the crowd’s getting behind her in Manchester her legs will be burning it’s fighting the lactic acid [Applause]
She’s really holding that black line she’s going the quickest way around the track even dipping below the black line which is even quicker way around the track she’s not got long to go she just needs to hold on to this pace and now she can opt for emptying the tank
She’s coming around the banking when she gets into the home straight she’s got one lap to go this is where you don’t hold anything back you empty the tank you grit your teeth elbows out and just absolutely fighting the bike pushing down on the pedals to get as much power out as you
Can I assure you the legs will be burning at this stage and we’re flying into the finish line for a time of through for a time of 438917 an average speed of 3872 km an hour minut so we have a factored time for KY Hoff and it is a
44889 so that is the time for the Riders following to beat now on the track we have two Riders and they are getting their bikes set up in the start gate in the Home Street we’ve got Leah okon in the back street we’ve got Elizabeth Simpson really New Riders we can see on
Our screen it’s brilliant to see so Leah okell in the home straet in the purple attire and we’ve got Elizabeth Simpson in the back street getting onto her bike getting her feet clipton it’ll be interesting to see what tactic they have for their pacing or is
Their coach going to walk the line or are we going to see the tablets coming out we’ve got Elizabeth Simpson with a dis wheel and we’ve got Leo Connell and spoke wheels potentially so she can control the bike a little bit easier And we’re underway aring that bike out of that start gate do not underestimate quite how hard a standing start is out of a start gate trying to get the timing right trying to get on top of that gear fixed gears on the track so you haven’t
Got the beauty of a road bike where you can simply change to an easier gear when you need to need to commit to that gear for the whole ride but both Riders now are up to speed and set in into their race so we’ve got two different positions on the track we’ve got
Elizabeth Simpson in the tri bars or the aerob bars she’s trying to get as aerodynamic as possible and we’ve got Leo Connell in the drop bars holding on to the top of the bars and really trying to hold that black line so both Riders trying to get round these 12 laps and
The quick T possible they certainly are so these are both C2 Riders so their time will be factored but not to the same extent as Katy Toof so it’s a factor of 88.2 eight% for C2 and at the moment already Elizabeth Simpson has Leo Connell in her sight so
Very early lead here for Elizabeth Simpson just focusing on her at the moment as she comes out of the banking into the home straight Leo o Connell just enters the next banking so very soon she will make that catch and the crowd are getting excited you can hear the cheers down the back
Straight as both Riders progress down the back straight and Elizabeth Simpson is gaining on Leia o Connell and it is just that little bit easier when you’ve got a rider in your sight to Spur you on to try and get round she’s coming up to the back now of
Leo hell and she’s going to use that slip sh to then slingshot her around she can’t get too close to the wheel in front and this is the tricky bit trying to come around your opponent um you don’t want to sit on their wheel and also when you come around you don’t want
To spend too much time out doing a further distance essentially so trying to get around as quickly and as efficiently as possible which she has done nicely big cheer from the crowd down the home straet as they’re glad to see that catch happen still a long way to go in this individual Pursuit
You see the lap board say six laps that time so we have just past the halfway mark for Elizabeth Simpson Le O Connell will get the six laps this time as she comes down the home straet focusing on Simpson here who’s now into that second half of
The race she’s currently into in second position with her time but there’s obviously going to be Factor times involved as well so we’ll see where it puts her where finishing time puts her at the end but she’s still pushing pushing the pedals and propelling herself forward at quite
A high Pace she’s not slowed down much since the [Applause] start lots of support from the crowd here Elizabeth Simpson down the back straight there she will seen four laps to go that time so inside that final kilometer now coming down the home straet we’ve got a pretty much full home
Straight here at the national Cycling Center in Manchester lots of crowds made the trip here this morning so really really good to see support as well for o Connell lots of support in the craft of both of these Riders Simpson carries on down the back straight approaching those final 500
Meters so not long to go now this is where it is really really hurting is to hold that line on the track hold that position on the bike keep putting that power down even though everything is telling you to stop it’s set it’s mind over matter in the last few laps isn’t it
So oh just the thought of that of experiencing that Feeling Again H isn’t very pleasant but gosh these Riders must love pain they’re coming into they’ve got two laps to go well Leo connell’s got two laps just now and that’s the bell for Elizabeth Simpson see what she can do in her final
Lap this is it last lap of racing fox come pass 444 final half lap now let’s see what time the clock is stopped at for Simpson and it is uh 45681 there for Simpson we will await the time of Leah o [Applause] Connell just around now down the home
Straight and over the line and it is a 52.97 for o Connell so both these riders in the C2 category so we’ll wait for the factor time as soon as that is made available to us Raider slowing down now and being going to be helped off their bikes
So our Factor times are 4 21469 for Elizabeth Simpson and 4 43.3 59 for Leah o Connell so our actual times there on the the graphic there before factoring but are factored times are just coming up on our scoreboard in venue here this allows run different categories to all compete
Together in the same competition but the factoring takes account of the different categories so now we have a r of taking to the track who is already champion from these championships and it is Daphne shreer she will be up against Amelia Cass seeing Amelia cast there in the back straight in the
Purple and Daphne shrer in the home straight already national champion this week and a world championship silver medalist in this event at last Summer’s World Championships she is the hot favorite for this title is dhany shreer 12 laps of racing as we’ve seen before both these Riders also in the C2 category
So we are well underway Sher putting out loads of power here you can see her tucked into that lovely AO position following the black line round the bottom of the track and look at the Gap that she has got over Cass already already opening up
A huge lead for Daffney Sher who is our favorite for this competition so we are on underway for Heat number three out of four Heats for this women’s individual Pursuit par c 1 to5 and I am just about to get a new co- commentary guest joining me it is John
Gilda hello how are you doing you’re right I’m very good really delighted to have you here this morning it’s this afternoon now isn’t it this afternoon yeah morning session but we’re we’re cracking on and we’re well into the pursuit competition yeah def is absolutely smashing here by the
Way so we can see on the track here Daphne shreer she’s coming down the home right now she’s the rider in the black kit with the white helmet with the fluorescent stripe down the middle she’s got her coach giving her feedback and she is looking like she’s about to make
This catch absolutely crowd are getting really behind her yeah she’s um she’s sort of on a massive trajectory of improvement and she she’s getting quicker and quicker I think uh is um as she gets more experience riding really well John huitt there just giving her out a splits so that experience of racing
Offense like a national championships obviously she’s raced the B championships we saw her in Glasgow last summer but but this is still you know important for that development like you say very much on that trajectory and improving all the time and she’s just made that catch and the crowd are
Delighted still a long way to go for this Pursuit though yeah she just needs to settle down now don’t she and just keep that rhythm going and and and keep the splits um as even as she can do she’s a strong Rider you can see she’s absolutely powering away there so she’s
Just seen four laps to go on the lap for this is this challenging part of a Pursuit you’re inside that final kilo but you’ve now lost that carrot that you were chasing up until now so she’s had the had the carrot of Amelia cast to chase all this way but she’s now very
Much on her own so really digging deep now coming around for three laps to go this [Applause] time this is it in the this part of the pursuit now our legs will be getting to really tired you get that lact tape build up and this is just you’re you’re
Just kind of digging in and relying on your sort of grit to to get you through the last few laps great indeed for the final two so the final 500 MERS she’s a national champion for 500 meters we had that event yesterday she took that title from
Rebecca Newber and Katy Toof in bronze so already a really strong opener to championships for DNE Sher but she is hot favorite for this Pursuit she’s got the Bell now she’s on 3 38.6 so far still one more lap of racing and then we will get the factor time to you as soon
As we can yeah and she slowed down a little bit there onto the last split but she’s still you know she’s not dropping off massively she’s really uh strong to the end there really that’s a time with 3 58.2 07 for dney Sher great ride great ride indeed and
We’re going to eagerly await the factor time which we are bringing you as account of the different classifications within this competition and now we’ve got the finishing time of Amelia Cass as well with a 450 .883 just seeing some lovely replay shots here from DNE sher’s
Ride we have one final heat to go that will be Morgan Newberry versus Rebecca nck both in the C5 category so 100% of their time will stand so the factor time is a 3:30. 289 I’m hearing for dhany Sher so now this is the challenge for these C5
Riders that’s um that’s a tough time there I think that’s a that’s a a Target that to uh for these guys to go after that is indeed a Target so 100% of the times will stand for the C5 Riders so uh they will have just heard the in
Venue announcer Carl just say that it is a 3:30. 289 that is the time to beat so how do you deal with that when you’re on the start line here at hearing of time as phenomenally fast as that is as the one you’ve got to beat yeah I think
These guys are probably going to be more concentrating on each other and and trying to U trying to ride their own race into their own splits as well both both quite experienced Riders so onway challenges to get the bike out of that start line start gate in a straight
Line keeping control of the bars on these big gears that we’re racing on the track and then settling into that AA position so we’ll see the first half lap here is new who is the fast with a 14. 728 almost 2 seconds quicker than Newberry but it’s a 12 lap race of
Course long way to go as both RS are just settling in into their triy BS now yeah Rebecca’s gone off quick and she looks really good so this is The Challenge on race day isn’t it with the crowd in here nice warm temperatures how do you gauge that
Effort knowing that you know you want to give it your all but trying not to go out too fast it’s really tricky isn’t it because you know you can feel for free you know you can get yourself a strong start with the crowd behind you it’s
Nice and warm and you can feel you know fantastic um but if you don’t gauge the effort correctly it can catch up with you later on in the race it can you know so it’s um it’s sometimes it’s really kind of being mindful to go out steady
And you know it can feel really steady the right pace but it’s uh you the more even you can ride the pursuit the better the back end of the pursuit will be I think that’s what we’re seeing now with Morgan Morgan’s gone off a bit slower
But she’s you really sitting on a uh on a splits there whereas Rebecca seems to be just slowing down of slightly yes just looking at the time differences there on the graphic on the screen helpfully giving you those split shots as well which are really nice to
See the number 52 seeing on your shot there is Rebecca nework she started in the back straight and it was Morgan Newbury number 53 in the home straight Morgan splits there out for us she’s uh she really riding to a pace here that’s the keep pacing this 3,000 M
So approaching the 15 100 m Mark now so halfway through the ride and both Riders are just well just dipping under that two-minute Mark for Rebecca nck of course we can’t quite double the time to work out the 3K time because we’ve had that standing start in there yeah I mean
Morgan is riding to a split there and she’s riding you know a flat Pace um similar to Daphne actually [Applause] um dropping off a tiny bit but only a very tiny bit so she seems to be reallying in Rebecca now with just uh kilometer to go yeah very little
Separating these two Riders now always expected to be a close match this one and there you go there is that split shot and it is really the blink of an eye between these two rers blink and you’ll miss it less than a second absolutely now now it’s just
Staying power to the end isn’t it it’s who can keep you know keep that um rolling that um rolling the pedals around and and keep the power down without losing time there but we seeing actually Morgan’s actually speeding up now um towards the end this is a really
Interesting way to ride an individual pursuit to be able to have that little bit extra in the tank to to put it down in that final kilometer yeah absolutely I mean that’s the you know in theory suppose that’s the perfect ride isn’t it if you can actually push on towards the
End yeah oh yeah she’s really pressing on now it’s a great ride this this is so impressive to have to have turn around that deficit and now taken more than two seconds out of Rebecca Newar we are eagerly awaiting the finish time for Morgan e she’ll get the Bell this time
Morgan’s looking comfy on her bike she’s not rock and roll she’s really on the lines obiously pinned on the on the race line there super tidy it’s a great ride super impressive now half a lap to go just going over the start Finish Line in the back straight there and we’ve now
Got more than four seconds separating these two Riders norgan Newbury come the line what is that finishing time going to be and it is a 357 573 for Newbury and a 41.7 43 for nework now these rers a C5 100% of their time stands for this competition so I believe that will be dafne Sher who has taken the national title here yeah absolutely DA’s um super strong she’s in um you know one of the sort of um more imped categories because
Of her disability but she’s such a strong Rider and she’s really really uh um sort of top of the world now uh of what she does so these are the standings on the screen here for the the raw times essentially so Morgan y a 357.50 Sher was a 38.2 new was a
41.7 but the times will be factored so the factored time for shrer takes her into the lead with a 33.2 289 media Cass takes the silver with a 345.8 Morgan Newbury will take the bronze with her time of 357 573 slightly complicated to follow but we’re doing our best to explain it to
You and that concludes the women’s individual Pursuit Paris c 1 to5 category and we will be back to sprinting for our next round of racing here in this morning session back to the women’s Sprint quarterfinals so here we have our rers getting ready to come onto the track it
Is best of three in the women’s quarterfinal Sprint stage of course if you win your second heat having won the first one it’s job done through to the semi-finals later on this evening no need to go to the best of three there’ll be a lot of riders
Hoping to not have to do that third ride today if they can possibly help it so our riders for Heat number one are just getting ready to come to the track so it’s going to be Lauren Bell of Team inspired against Stephanie Hall Lauren Bell took Heat number one of
The quarterfinals so she is one up she can take this second one it’ll be done and Laura Bell will be through to the semi-finals Stephanie Hawks being pushed up to the line here by her coach just see that graphic on the screen there confirming that it was Lauren Bell that took the first
Victory in race number one of these quarterfinals we now at race number two if she can do it again job done LA and Bell are faster qualifier of the two for a 108 are only around to dip under that 11 second barrier Stephan all our eigh fastest qualifier with an 117
So on paper almost a second separating these two Riders but absolutely nothing is ever a foregone conclusion in bike racing especially not in track sprinting and it could all change with the tactics but we’ve got a quite a far start underway already here Stephanie Hall keeping the Pace High
She’s in the in the black kit at the top of the track at the moment Lauren Bell just coming underneath Lauren Bell Keen to be at the front of the race here but Stephanie Hall keeping the pace very high at the moment and our race is on already very
Early on in this Sprint we are not in the final lap yet both Riders going for it there running up the track running back down again Lauren Bell is in the lead both Riders out the saddle over the line hearing the bell for this final lap
Hitting the 200 me line there and it is Lauren Bell who is leading Paul is in that s trying to hang on to the wheel of Bell but Bell is drawing out one B two bike lengths there coming into the Finish job done nicely for Lauren Bell
Yeah super strong from Lauren Bell there she never really looked uh like she had to you know get up to a full speed it’s a long way out to to start sprinting from though it was a very long Sprint so Stephanie Hall really making sure that
Pace was was higher early on just giving a bit of acknowledgement there at the end acknowledging Bell’s performance to take that win those our replay shots there of heat number two we’ve now got heat heat number one sorry we now got Heat number two coming to the line for race two of the
Quarterfinals in the green kit here for team inspired lower down the track is Rian Edmunds and higher up the track in the the red Kit is Anna Whitworth hay so it’s Edmunds who took the first heat she can do it again it’ll be job done seeing our national men’s Sprint
Champion there Peter Mitchell black line coaching taking Anna Whitworth he up to the line good to see him coaching and racing at these championships yeah it was good to see him back in his side think it again yesterday wasn’t it very popular win for these championships um
For Pete Mitchell and he said in an interview with Charlene earlier how much he’s learn since he stopped racing but coaching and spending even more time looking at tactics and working that through with riders and talking tactics through all the time he’s still been very much embedded in the cycling world
And bike racing absolutely yeah I think um I think he had a little bit of time out of the game as well and I think he realized that he still could do it if he wanted to he had enough of a break that he got that sort of hunger again and
Then great great for him to come back to this championships and get such a great result yeah I think hung hunger is key as an athlete when you’re Training Day in day out if if you lose that hunger and it becomes if it becomes normal and
Yeah yeah routine then yeah you you you miss the X Factor don’t you that you need to to to put out the performance so yeah well done to him that’s why we often see such stunning performances from very young riders that are sort of new into the game and stepping up to
This level for the first time absolutely he’s at 34 taking that National Title absolutely yeah very impressive so Edmond is on the front here in this Sprint she’s in the dark green kit Whitworth ha is staying High here going up to the fence Edmond is
Keeping an eye on her oh and the Gap has just open and witor has taken that opportunity the crowd enjoyed that the crowd are applausing one LP go now they get the Bell Whitworth hay is leading Edmunds has got work to do and she is gaining on Whitworth ha she comes around
The outside down that back straight Edmond has got the power she goes around she goes clear drawing out multiple bike lengths here down the home straight never in doubt Edmonds has done it yeah good tactic from with was Hayes there just uh just trying to take her by
Surprise there and she got a good few bite LS there going to the last lap but uh edin’s just too strong there in the end I think edan’s very strong indeed she was the second fastest qualifier this morning so 110 was her qualifying time Whitworth he was 10th by is qualify with
117 so Whitworth he has been racing very well tactically very impressive to get herself to the quarter finals after a 10th classes in qualifying but Edmonds is the rider who will progress we’ got heat three coming up to the line now for their second race of the
Quarterfinals a am at the top of the track in that dark green kit another Rider representing team inspired part of the GB cycling team and then Amy Cole in the red Kit of the Wales Racing Academy well known for being a tandem pilot of course Amy corbert racing on the solo bike today
Young fan getting that getting that shot there and we are away Amy Cole is leading at the moment start slightly more Cy here is a contrast the other heat so far isn’t it the taking the time to to get started on this one very tactical very tactical Cole looking
Over her shoulder making sure she can see where is I don’t think we’re going to see a track stand we’re not quite that slow but nobody Keen to push the pace on at the moment just dipping down to the coke desser here which is completely fine in these match Sprint
Competitions two STS to go this time M happily riding in second position here she just goes a little high on the track there dips down just testing if there’s the opportunity to catch Cole napping there to try and get that inside line Cole is wise to it of
Course both rers go back up the track again in that back straight it’s going to be the Bell this time for the final lap so we have got less than a lap and a half to go now and the Riders are starting to wind up those gears both
Riders coming down the track call look over should seeing where m is m going high up to that blue line swooping down now Cole has got a gap of a couple of bike lengths but m is driving into that gap down that back straight 100 me to go
She just comes around the outside on the hip M poers all the way down that H straight L to the line and M has done it that was our closest heat we’ve seen so far the crowd really enjoyed that fantastic perfectly timed Sprint there from your just piing her on the line
There reeling her in there just around the uh around the bend and just uh just Ping On the Line great ride great ride indeed so two from two ran Brian Edmond and Lauren Bal our three team inspired Riders are safing through to the semi-finals but we have one final heat to
Go yeah the team inspired Riders showing the strength there so one go fourth and final heat about to come up to the line now just seeing the Riders getting ready in the middle I can see Georgette Rand of the V Club Lincoln she’s in this pale blue kit just coming up to the
Line and we will wait for ciry Johnson just to get on her bike she will be in the red kit for Edinburgh RC she was just uh singing the seats there by the gate here is Rand R qualified in fourth place time of 11161 very impressive qualifying time
And she won the first of these um quarterfinal Heats as well delay here isn’t there with Cur to getting clips into the pedals no real rush for ciry Johnson getting up to the line here Comm seem happy so far here we go so is Rand at the top in the pale
Blue kit and Johnson at the bottom in the red Kit it is Rand that won the first of these quarterfinal Heats between these two competitors We join here in the by Char jet bus way Johnson is leading off see already looking over her shoulder constantly ran quite close
Behind her so the closer the second Rider gets to the back wheel of the front Rider the harder it can be to see if they’re just about get in that blind spot they’re laying off a little bit it can be slightly easier to see theming right down going up the track
Here now we going for a track stand near Maybe this is tricky riding like this and not making any mistakes it’s a real sort of testing bike handling skills isn’t it very different than wow very tricky indeed but Johnson taking the opportunity here she is One
Race down at this quarterfinal so she is Keen to force ran to come to the front this is why we see the track stand the rider in front does not want to keep leading the bike race so Johnson is forced Rand into a track stand both Riders here in the back straight crowd
There whove got brilliant seats to witness this up close and personal and they ride on we going to have another pause K say keeping a close eye making sure that no track stands go on for too long but on WE race Johnson hasn’t been able to force Ram to the start here
Which is what she was trying to do mean she’s forced to take the lead in this Sprint be come into two laps to go both rather Staying High on the track so quite a contrast the pace has increased and we’ve gone right up to the top of
The track he’s slowing back down again isn’t it yeah Pace just come off again as we come around that banking Johnson Keeping a really close eye on Rand ran staying pretty close there ran Staying High now as we approach the final lap we’re going to hear the Bell this time into
Getting one lap to go and now the Sprint gets under way Johnson on the front in the red Kit out the saddle Rand comes alongside side by side up at the Blue Line finally they both dip down down the back straight Rand gets past makes sure
She is clear draws out two B length straight away on Cy Johnson Rand poers all the way to the line and it is job done joette Rand is through to the semi-finals yeah absolutely rapid once she turned on the afterburners there round quite high up Ling position she’s
Got isn’t it really she’s quite sort of sat up but loads of pace so that concludes our women’s Sprint quarterfinals race two and we won’t need to go to a race three for any of the Heats because they have all been decided in two straight Heats so we will see these Riders up
Later on this evening for the women’s Sprint semi-finals that will be after 600 p.m. the first race at 6 p.m. first event of our evening session but for now we are getting back to individual pursuiting we are back for the men’s individual purit for the par category C1 to C2
Yeah we’ve got some good Riders to um to watch um in this category I think um the second heat is going to be really interesting with uh Ryan Taylor versus Matthew Robertson um they are very competitive um both really competitive Riders and be uh interesting to see how
They go Matthew’s coming back from a a real bad injury that he’s had and he’s um you know he’s he’s he’s back up to full Pace now so uh this one will be really interesting to see how they go just seeing coach Helen Scott taking the
Bike up to the line there and I’d like to make full appreciation of the leggings she’s got Rascal pair of pants on there aren’t she so nice one Scotty love it yeah brilliant got to take the opportunity if you’re going to be on the live stream absolutely yeah get the best leggings
Out so this is Callum Deo who’s just getting into the start gate at the moment all our Riders here are in the C2 category we did have an entry from a C1 Sam rck who has not signed on this morning so we have three riders that are
All C2 and 100% of their time will stand for this 3 km individual Pursuit about to hear those Beeps in now final few seconds before the start gate releases and we are underway huge Applause from the crowd encouragement from the coach Helen Scott yeah always a lot harder to get going with your
Balance as well I mean you know with one leg there to get the bik moving off the start line is much uh much trickier than it would be if you you know had two legs to to get going with in the balance as well as you’re trying to put all that
Power through the bike that bit harder but um now callum’s going he’s um get himself tucked in there and um yeah he’s looking really strong must take a lot of core strength there to be able to control the bik when you’re trying to get onto top of that gear in that first
Lap yeah I think I think um you know for these guys I mean the um with the adaptions to the bike I think that helps to a certain extent but um you know a lot of it is just um getting used to an adapting to um the balance differences you’d have to make
Off the St line but um yeah callum’s looking really strong here um good position nice and sort of flat in his Pursuit position and holding that black line really well as well that’s always the challenge an individual position we know that is the shortest way around the
Track but actually doing it when you’re in a world of pain towards the end of a Pursuit um can get a lot trickier absolutely I think a lot of the time people concentrate on the you know being really Arrow But ultimately if you don’t go around on the black line you end up
Doing you know over you know full Pursuit distance you end up doing a much bigger uh distance so um so yeah it’s really important to try and hug that black line is seven laps to go now so not quite at that halfway point yet at the point
Where the pain is really starting to build up yeah this is yeah just keeping this rhythm going for it looks like he’s ping quite a big gear there as well so it’s um he just grinding around that big gear but without trying to stay s keep his core nice and tight on his
Bike so he’s not sort of all over the all over the bike but yeah he’s looking good so far and this is this painful part of an individual Pursuit but you haven’t yet reached that final kilometer and you can smell the Finish you’re right in the middle and that’s where you need to
Really dig deep when everything’s telling you to stop absolutely yeah yeah and I think the tendency as well is is to to lose your form as well you know as it gets hard so it’s you know it’s like a combination of trying to you know dig
In and and um and really use your of determination to get to the end but at the same time keeping that position keeping your core nice and tight and and at the same time trying to stay on the black line so it’s um it’s not easy not easy at all but we’re inside
That final kilometer now so psychologically I think that helps if you divide the race up into the 3K coming around now it will be three laps to go on that lap board a lot of encouragment here from the crowd of course Riding Solo no opponent to chase
Here does that make much of a difference Before the Race knowing you’re going to be up your own I think it does yeah I think um I think it’s usually better if you’ve got someone to to race against um but then at the same time for Callum you
Know I think at the at the stage he’s at um with probably the two more um experienced riders in front of him I think for him it’s just you know putting a putting down a good performance he’s got Scotty there shouting out his time so he’s obviously got his schedule that
He’s aiming for and he’s you know he’s aiming for his um his own performance so hopefully um you know’s he’s point out the performance that he wanted today but he looks strong he’s certainly looking strong to the end as well he certain is and there goes the Bell final lap final bit of
Encouragement there from coach Scotty with the Fantastic leggings and powering away down that back straight last half lap of racing now and we will see what time we have on the board two more Riders to go in this competition but this will be our early bench mark time and it is a 401
817 so this next Heat is a really um a really interesting one so you’ve got two really quick C2 Riders two of the best in the world um Matthew’s been on the British cing scene for quite a long time um but he really is still very young and he’s been very unfortunate
With injuries and to to not keeps getting to a point where he’s you know bordering on sort of meddling at World level and then you know he’s had a lot of setbacks so it’s great to see him back um performing on a um you know well and and uh on that upward trajectory
Again in the meanwhile um Ryan’s you know he’s not been around for as long on the British s can team but he’s um super duper strong so um so this will be a good um a good race for these guys and this is the kind of um par World level
They’ be racing at as well so the these guys a potentially um medalist at World level in this event so it should be really good and how important is the national championships as part of that sort of bigger picture if you want to prepare for World Champs par Olympic games uh is
The sort of event you would be training through at this point of the year in January I mean this is a this is a real tricky thing isn’t it because you’ve got worlds aren’t far down the line at all so they’re only um a few weeks away so
These guys don’t don’t want to be peeking now but they want to put down a good performance and then obviously you know as the goes on you’ve got the games at the end of the year so I would imagine for both of these guys they I
Mean they want to lay down a a really good performance and they’ll definitely want to beat each other you know that’s that’s the point it’s a race they’ll they’ll want to win you know so um but um but yeah it’s a good opportunity for um for these guys to get some practicing
Before the World Championships but in terms of these two in this category it’s um you know I suppose it’s you know who’s the best well on beating each other both of them raced in the kilometer time trial yesterday but it was Matt Robertson who took the bronze
Medal Ryan Taylor took fourth place so all to play for one Rider coming away with no middle yesterday the other Rider coming away with the bronze but now head-to-head so definitely I think at this point out to beat the rider that EUR oppa gets on the
Track are propably out of the mind yeah absolutely yeah yeah and they’ll be nervous as well definitely and we are on the way out of the start gate first lap of this 3,000 M individual Pursuit for the Paris one to two men and mattity Robinson’s quick out
The blocks there he seems to be up already yeah his way up yeah he’s going after he’s got I think M has got points to prove here I think and um to himself more than anything else so be uh yeah he’s he’s G quick certainly has so Robertson here in
This yellow kit and we are seeing ooh 3 seconds already in the first rapid absolutely rapid really good position as well looks um head nice and low flat back he’s obviously been working on that um no doubt with John hwit there he’s looking [Applause] quick he’s looking quick indeed so
Reminder of our time from Callum de boy in Heat number one was a 41.87 so boths be looking to try and break that 4minute barrier that’s always a good psychological barrier to be trying to trying to beat on paper in an individual Pursuit but as you mentioned
This is this is a bike race and at the moment Robertson has a huge lead over Taylor we’re only a kilometer into the race 16 kilo there for Matty I think that’s um yeah that’s super quick hopefully he’s got the judging of his Pace spot on and he’s not um gone off uh
Too quick for him I think um Ryan’s looking smooth and he’s certainly R into a pace himself there so it’s uh it’s whether Matty can um keep this pace going to the end it’s still a long way to go they’re only halfway aren’t they yeah so approaching that 1500 meter Mark
Now and we can just see here in the valone when we do and we get the wide shots on the screen that Robertson is gaining nicely on tailor but will not quite have him in his sight at the moment so as soon as he gets him in this
Sight that that will change the end again won’t it yeah definitely I mean Matty I know he has to really focus on um sort of keeping a straight line it’s a bit trickier for him with um CP has got to to really kind of get that um
Position and to stay on the black line so whether he’ll even look up at all you know whether he even if he does get many sights whether he’ll actually notice um he’ll really just be focusing on just staying on the line and keeping tidy on the
Bike there we go you can see gaining still Robert on Taylor not quite inight yet though we’re inside that final perometer 3 km race in total so we’ll be seeing three laps to go this time for both of our Riders mattity will be enjoying this you know he’s um spent
Quite a bit of time by bikes with him and he’s he’s a right little uh Savage he likes it when it gets hard like this I’m sure so relishing this individual Pursuit challenge here today and here we go down the back straight two laps to go this
Time but Taylor is holding him at this sort of distance now there’s not really been much of a gain in this um in this of middle kilometer section no I think this is the point now where that fast start is starting to um affect Matty there is um yeah he’s definitely feeling the
Effects of that uh fast start but with only one lap to go I think um yeah he’s judged that really well as long as he uh can just get around this last lap now I think if you know if he can press on till the end that’ll do him the world of
Good in terms of to see where he’s at against everyone else in the world going into World Championships but yeah he’s looking super solid1 L there and it is a 3 41.9 for Matt Robertson and for Ryan it was a 3 44.7 so Robertson will take the gold
Here in this individual Pursuit at the national championships yeah super solid yeah it looks great actually he’s you know his position on his bike everything there looking at the replay he was um really dialed in there he’ll be proud of that ride that that’s just what he needed going into the world
Championships as well after the injuries and the setbacks he’s had so so how much of that is a confidence boost to come out I mean you can do that in training but to do it in front of a crowd with the the adrenaline of race day and the
Pressure of getting it right in the moment how I think for I think for Matthew he’s definitely I mean I know Matthew well is is it’s a big deal cuz you know he’s very uh sort of confidence driven really so I think um that’s a a
Big validation to him I’m sure of what he can do I think we all know you know we the riders that ride with him all know what he capable of so it’s um you know it’s you know I’m sure that’ll do in the world of could going into World
Championships so uh yeah that’s um I think it’s different for different Riders is it some people sort of you know need that kind of um you know to choke up the results to get the confidence really and um I think he’s after the injury and stuff is’s had he’s
Um he’s had to sit on the sidelines a lot so to be back in and amongst it and to get that result and to put down a ride like that will mean a lot to him yeah well done Matty and we are moving swiftly on still individual pursuiting but this is the
Men’s par C3 category so all the Riders here are C3 Riders we’ve got three Heats two Riders per heat so six riders in total facing the 3 km distance confirmation of the start L is on the screen now Heat number one is Jacob Smith versus Charlie Stanton stock Martin Hailstone Ben heatherington in
Heat two and Heat number three is the big one finy Graham versus Jacob B gas so we can get very excited about that final heat and that should be a very tough competition yeah absolutely and we are underway all right in the back straight is Charlie Stanton stck running for a l
Student Cycling Club Jacob Smith started in the home straight so we’re racing the 3 km distance again six riders in total but all wanting medal no factoring in this competition because these are all C3 Riders so all the same category so fastest time wins yeah these guys are really evenly matched as well
They absolutely you know almost riding the exact same time here so so far very close race mean nobody’s got the advantage of having anybody in their s or getting anybody slipstream but still very early days we’re just three laps in at the moment and it is about a second actually separating these two
Riders just looking both holding really good positions on the bike here yeah Jacob seems to uh have settled in just that little bit smoother he’s got probably well I don’t know what you think but it looks like he’s got a better position on the bike
To me um he’s very um you know he’s got his head sort of tucked above his hands like very flat back whereas Charlie’s doesn’t look quite uh quite has worked out it’s a bit higher at the front end so just seeing those shots of Jacob Smith as you said looking their area of
The bike but just just sort of flicking up above that red line in the back straight there on one occasion some Riders choosing to go slightly higher in the straight to try and make the Trap more of a b shape other Riders really hugging that black line absolutely
Sometimes this is the problem if you do get a position that’s that sort of worked out it’s great very Arrow but really he’s sort of looking down isn’t he so the danger is he’s around the corner if you drift up the track you end up doing you know four five meters more
Around the around the corner so there’s definitely the balance between position and you know the ability to ride it round on the black line but he’s got a catch here already hasn’t he we’re going to get the catch the crowd are really enjoying this down the back straight jaob Smith comes around
The outside very nicely done being able to get back down just down to that black line now you want to try and get r as quickly as you possibly can so you can get back down to the bottom of the track of course you’re going the longer way
Round and now you have not got that Character Chase and you’ve not got that slip strange Chase so this can feel a 100 times harder still a kilometer to go yeah this is a again the lact tap building up here um and that that kind
Of tough bit of the race but he’s got Scotty there sh I split so he’s got some reference to go by and some encouragement there from Scotty yeah encouragement really key at this point in that final col not quite in that final lap or two that you can really spr
The line although he’s really s swinging up the track there he he actually swung right the track and had a bit of a look around there so he could do with just focusing on the job at hand keeping tucked in cuz every time you put your
Head up like that you’re losing a bit of speed and and and once you lose speed in the last kilometer you’re not getting it back are you yes especially on these fixed gears you can’t you you’re stuck in the aor position you’re not going to
Get out the sadd and use that to build up your momentum staying in that a position but he has now got the Bell last bit of encouragement from coach Helen Scott there down the back straight for Jacob Smith lots of encouragement here from the crowd and I’m eagerly awaiting to see what time
He’s able to post at the end here for just hearing the Bell there SLE stop in the back great but our time there is 34. 555 for Jacob Smith not bad Stanton stop just recording a time there are three oh no still going he was done no round the back straight this
Time and it is a 35811 yeah Charlie got a good start there and he was I think the first kilometer was on you know he was pretty much neck and neck but I think he uh he really suffered from that what ended been a really fast start for
Him if you’ve got a fast start how much do you need to re that in on race or do you let yourself use that fast start and try and get some time in the bank so tricky isn’t it I think the um you know you got to balance out as best you can
Do really is it it’s like a Sprint start but not quite flat out I think um I don’t know about you but but when I was pting I’d really kind of try and practice the the feel of that start oh he just crashed into the barrier there was a bit of a
Uh in the bottom corner there yeah I think um maybe a bit disorientated after that ride and just um rode into the gate I think the hardest bit of a Pursuit can be getting off the bike afterwards yeah I think yeah never mind the start yeah definitely yeah slow down before you try
And get off maybe and the problem is on in training you can just do lap after around the bottom of the track until you’re ready to stop on race day you need to get off the bike pretty quickly so they can get the next Heat underway and I think that’s always the challenge
Where you could do with another couple laps to wind down absolutely also after after like a you know after a race you have got that thing where you know sometimes you you get across the finish line and you’re not quite prepared for how tired you actually are or you know
You’re pretty much falling off the bike It’s s a new territory you’ve not quite been to in training and you go to that place on race day and then suddenly you’ve got to stop and try and get off the bike it’s easier said and done yeah
So these guys are going to want to go as quick as they can do to get as close to the times of uh Jacko and Finn yes so final here as you mentioned we have the world champion Finley grah against Jack O vangas repeat of the world championship final from last
Summer so we’re very excited about that but meanwhile Heat number two here Martin Hailstone in the home straight Ben heatherington in the back straight will both want to PO as fast as time as possible and and show where they stand against against the best in the world
Yeah I mean they’ve got the advantage here where they they literally have you know they get to race against the best two riders in the world so um or in the same competition so it’s a really great opportunity to measure themselves against the very best certainly is
So very F start here by Hailstone Martin looks good Martin hailston looks really good he’s got great position he’s quick and he might just about have hea in his sight already so it has been a hugely fast start here by Martin Hailstone steady a start here by Heather and of
Course this is a 3 km race things can very much change from this point but just looking at the track now he’s going to just about see him yeah it be interested to see you know what he goes through the first kilo out if he’s sort of around about the 110 Mark he’s
Um he’s going to be where is he up to the first kilometer there to 114 so he’s not going to be a million miles off the kind of pace that we’ll see in the next uh the next round there it’s uh how he how well whe they can keep on that pace
Now yeah so after an individual pursu we see Riders try and maintain that world record pace for that first kilometer and then keep training GE after year hopefully you can maintain that for the full 3K but knowing that you’ve got that speed in you to be able to start that
Fast and get on top of that gear this is going to give him a break now coming to slipstream there I mean Ben heatherington there he’s not slow so it means Martin gets the opportunity to kind of get the benefit of the slipstream there as he’s riding up to his
Wheel Hailstone chasing down heatherington now and it is just a matter of about 20 M or so separating these two Riders down the back straight there is that shot where you can see both of these Riders now Hailstone coming up behind heathington down the home straight the longer he’s here the
More he is being in that slipstream having that Character Chase once he’s come around he’s on his own he’s suffering as well isn’t he you can tell he’s suffering there so I think the trickiest bit for um Hailstone is when he comes around heatherington now you
Know to he’s getting the benefit of the slipstream there but it’s going to be really tricky for him I think this last part of this race having gone out so quickly um to to get to the end and they had to go right the way round as well
Really high up the track that’s not ideal for either yeah heatherington going wide there so Hailstone forced to go wide as well now this is a tricky bit Martin Hailstone such a fast start early on and has he got the gas to get around Ben heatherington this is it he’s making
Sure that he’s just sitting a little bit wide so he’s not sitting on the wheel but now look how strong this final kilo is from Ben heatherington a tricky thing isn’t it because if he goes past him now it’s whether he’ll actually be holding Ben up um for the last kilo he almost
Looks like he’s riding away from him again doesn’t he yeah heatherington really turning the screw in these final two laps here very very strong final kilo Hailstone such a fast start and just not quite got the power to get on turns with heatherington now wow this is
Agonizing he’s got to just sit outside so he’s not sitting on the wheel not benefiting from that slipstream final lap now down the back straight he’s just closing that Gap ever so slightly but sitting wide making sure he’s not on that wheel sprinting for the line now
Martin H and this will be his finish now and it is a 34186 2 yeah you kind help think if he’d have maybe gone a slightly more measur from the start whether his overall ride would have been quicker and that’s the the tricky thing about riding Pursuit if you
Do go off quick you know you can um the back end of the ride can really suffer it certainly can so 3 41.8 for Martin hson at the end there so currently in second position because Jacob Smith R time with 34.5 in that opening Heat I don’t think I’ve seen
Quite such a long drag race in a Pursuit for a long time such a difference in Pace there early on but in that final kilo both riding a very similar Pace yeah so we’ve got now in the next Heat couple of friends of mine so this is tricky um you got
Jacko um he’s been um away training in South Africa he’s done a big old Ro black he’s been back on the track now and I mean he told me that he’s um he was just Keen to get back racing before the world champion ionships and get the
Experience and just you know get out there and get get that race effort um in his legs just so he’s got the um a bit of conditioning and and getting back used to it Finn has been absolutely flying um he’s a lot younger and um he’s um he’s just gone from strength to
Strength so this is going to be um a great race with these guys and these guys are really pushing each other on so at World Champs Finn won the individual Pursuits but Jacko won the kilo and yesterday we had the kilo at the national championships where Jacko won Finn was second now we’ve
Almost got a rematch different events but they’re head-to-head once again yeah def I mean jacko’s got that top end the real good top end and you know on his day in the pursue you know he really Peaks for a performance he you know he’s absolutely phenomenal I think
Um but but Finn you know he’s good every day basically he’s just um you know he’s absolutely rapid so should be a good one this one world champion Stripes here from Finley Graham as he gets out the start gate up against Jacko van Gast in the backstraight here in the dark red and
Black kits we have got the best two riders in the world in the C3 category head-to-head at the national championships here in man you can literally see the difference in Pace they absolutely rapid compared to the um the rest of the guys in their category Finn’s positions phen
Al and absolutely neck and neck so far although you got Jacko just with a slight no it’s absolutely neck and neck nothing in it this is what we love to see this is what the crowd love to see and for these two Riders you mentioned on the GB team together not necessarily
Training together day in day out but still pushing each other and you know just just raising the bar for the C3 category yeah absolutely I think when you get to the the point where the best riders in the world are in and around the same sort of cohort or you know or
On the same Squad then you know the bar just gets raised and raised and they’re both good Riders they both ride at a Able Body level as well at a good level so they’re you know they’re able to really push themselves and I think Finn’s now just got the edge
There he’s just starting to take out a little bit of a gap on Jacko and this is this is what o told me he wanted to experience this this part of the race that you can’t really simulate in training so you know he wanted to expose you to this a couple of
Weeks out from the world championship so we can really you know feel what racing feels like yeah feeling your way through that middle kilo knowing that You’ got to ride that final kilo absolutely how often will they go full distance in training for a Pursuit probably not very probably not very
Often um they probably do a lot of standing and a lot of maybe rolling full um efforts but um yeah probably not so much full Pursuit efforts it’s very hard to simulate this in training but they’ll do a lot of pacing efforts as well they’ll know based on what the
Temperature is and how fast the Vel dr’s running what lap splits they’re they’re able to hold based on what power they’re able to put out so that sounds quite technical but Jon’s got the the the board on this side um for Finn um and Andy’s got the board on that side for
Jacko so there
