Hi everyone guys I’m Stephano Castillo welcome back on my Channel today I’m going to talk about if it is still worth to live in Berlin in 2023 she’s my girlfriend and she has been living here for more than one year I lived here for five six months more or less hopefully
Thanks to this video and our information you can decide whether or not to live in Berlin in 2023 2024 and so on now let’s begin guys but before begin leave a like down below if you want to support me also consider subscribing to my channel if you want to see more content like
This the first point is cost of living actually she searched for everything the apartment in Berlin and so on so she knows better what I mean by this because here guys really it’s something incredibly crazy when it comes to renting yeah but not as regards to cost
I mean the costs are skyrocketing right now after the war and Co the rent increased a lot anywhere in Berlin not only in the center of Berlin but still I think there are pretty cheap compared to other big European cities the average cost of an apartment let’s say a true
Apartment like ours is 800 or 900 depending on the Zone where you are living while I think Paris and London are way more expensive I think you cannot find anything under 1,000 1,500 100 years in other big cities the thing is that Berlin now is very attractive for Internationals people are coming
Here really from all over the world you hear more people talking English uh in the streets than German so that’s a good thing but it also means that it is really difficult to find an apartment because there are few warehouses than people searching for them and also uh
There are very difficult processes to go through in order to get a long-term contract the first time that we came here we were leaving outside Berlin in Potsdam from Berlin to Potsdam it’s a 35 30 minute ride by train po them as well is crazy the situation so all the cities
Near Berlin as well crowed so guys you should be prepared for that if you want to come here but let’s talk money because I think that’s also really interesting we already said the average cost for a two room apartment here in Berlin obviously as I said if you want to live
In a fancy building in the city center uh in a fancy neighborhood PR prices will increase but still not so much utilities are I think pretty expensive here in Germany and it’s really difficult to say the actual price because here in Germany it works that you have contract and you pay the same
Amount every month and then after 6 months they calculate how much you have consumed and give you money back or ask for more money happen like this yes for more money in average 100 per month for electricity but we have everything electrical so we have the electrical oven the electrical stove so obviously
It means that we consume more the eating is included in the rent so when I’m talking about rent here I’m talking about what they call worm rent so it includes also heating all the taxes and it includes like the the condo fees so let’s say that per person if you live
With someone else or if you are renting just a room in an apartment you will pay around 500 600 per month just for leaving so rent and you it’s not so much as it was were saying before my mother is living in London and compared to London as well
The prices are way cheaper so keep in mind this as well okay now let’s talk about groceries here in Germany so we go to the grocery shop get most of the times and the prices are like Italy more or less the north of Italy not like the
South of Italy it depends on what you want to buy so as Italians we uh tend to buy pasta which is obviously more expensive than in Italy but we expected it and uh vegetables vegetables are like standard prices it depends if you find offers or not but but they are not as
Fresh as Italy the vegetables I mean I don’t think everyone will be from Italy yeah true maybe watching this video so if you’re not Italian you will be probably unless you come from the south of Europe in uh usually south of Europe has better vegetables and fruits but
Here the quality is not so bad and also when it comes to meat or fish the prices are like standard pricing meaning prices meaning that per month one person like eating healthy food and own prep meals you you will spend probably 150 150 200 200 per month 150 200 per
Month yes more or less let’s go to the next point that is job market and opportunities she can relate more than me because she’s working here in Berlin Germany let’s discuss this together to be honest I haven’t really searched for a job in Germany I came to Berlin while
Searching for a job all over Europe I was open to any City in Europe and Berlin came up and I decided to come here so I’m not really up to dat as regards the recent Trends or how difficult it is to find a job here but I
Can definitely tell you that if your worry is that you have to learn German this is not necessary Berlin is a very International city as we said before it means that you will find a job also just knowing English depending on the sector you want to work in let’s say say you
Are graduated in your country and you want to find an office job here as I did I don’t know German so I just applied and it’s a multinational company there are countless multinational companies here in Berlin so it’s not difficult for you to find a job just knowing English
Obviously if you want to work with clients or in customer service you will need German most likely but I think that people also move here without knowing the language at all I know many people who just decided to move here and then Berlin Frankfurt Munich as well are all
English speaking cities so it really depends on where you are going to work and what’s your background and the sector but usually if you work for the it that’s for sure that you don’t need you don’t need German and let’s talk about also how to find a job here in
Berlin if you know something about it so uh if you want to work work for a company I think LinkedIn is the best option I found this job through Linkedin and it was really easy for me to apply uh but I think that if you don’t know
Exactly what you want to do and you just want to move to Berlin you can come here and go around uh bring your CV and go everywhere you want to work and I think you will find a job is there are countless opportunities I always see like outside restaurants or bars job
Openings just there now let’s go to the next step that is something really really important and I’m talking about quality of life we the first time came here during winter and of course winter in Germany is crazy Berlin is located in the northeast of Germany so the winter
Is like in Poland in all these countries really really cold if if you are not able to live in a very cold City Berlin is not for you because during winter temperatures can go down around -5 -4 sometimes evenus 10 it happens so there is ice there is snow everywhere you
Should keep in mind this if you want to come here to live We Are From Italy the south of Italy Naples in the specific and temperatures in Naples are during winter 10° and when we came here it was incredible to go outside guys you w ready mentally and also as regards our
Clothes so you should buy the right clothes you should buy a proper gear I’m not joking in order to leave here and so this can be a very big cons in my opinion of course I when you manage to go through Berlin’s winter the spring is
Still pretty cold but then the summer if it’s not rainy it’s great because there are lots of activities here in the city uh people go out dance in the streets or lots of concerts also everything for free I mean there is a park where every Sunday you go there and there are uh
Performers where whether they are magicians M Park yeah whether there are magicians or uh singers or dancers they are just there and they perform and it’s great so it’s like the best city to leave if you like going out uh seeing many different people knowing very different cultures but just during
The summer yeah it’s true it’s true so in August this year the summer was not here there were like 10 degrees during night also 6° we went down at 6° now it’s September almost the almost October and the temperature is really great I’m wearing a t-shirt so you can see she is
She’s wearing a shirt as well really no because the window is open so guys really the temperature in September has been incredible I’m really happy about this but it’s a particular case usually is better than yeah it’s true I remember that last year September was really
Really cold it was like winter she was speaking about the pears of Berlin and I have to say that Berlin has many many parts and I’m glad that Berlin is like this there are countless Parks all over Berlin also Lakes Lakes as well so really when it comes to nature parks
When it comes to bike Lanes you can ride the bike everywhere here another Pro another big big Pro here guys that you can leave with a bike so this one when it comes to the quality of life it’s a big Pro yeah also another Pro is that
Usually there’s not much traffic here in Berlin because because people go buy bike but also buy public transportation which works really good is really efficient I mean obviously there are delays or sometimes your train will get cancelled for sure and Germans are very well known for having uh really bad
Reputation in ter in terms of delays for regional trains but the Berlin public transportation meaning the underground or the trums they work really well they come like every four five minutes so you can get wherever you want by public transportation yeah let’s say that there
Are more Pros than cons if you like to live in a big city let’s go to the cons because there are also some counts we have to be honest we cannot just say that is great and you can go byy bike and so okay I want to say something
First she hates Berlin more than me yeah okay so because I live it more than you for me from my point of view is the night life year so if you want to leave normal light life night life meaning that you want just to go out with your
Friends or having a drink really unless it’s summer and maybe more bars are open during the winter you cannot do anything because the night life is focused on claps and I know that some people love claps so if you do love clabs come here because I think it’s the best city in
The world for this kind of night life but if you don’t like it you will find yourself in a difficult position because everyone will go to clubs uh you won’t find many standard bars opened during the late night and it’s also really difficult to make friendship here unless
You are a very extrovert person which I’m not uh so so I mean I don’t like this kind of night life and I don’t like what this kind of night life brings to the city okay another big con that is famous all over the world about Berlin
As well is that on Sundays everything is closed guys really it’s like a day that you lose because everything is closed and you cannot do anything else you have to stay at home and you cannot even uh throw the rabbish you cannot even make noise at home so you cannot even clean
Your apartment because you will make make noises and people will complain about it it happened to us something like that I’m not going into details you should wear Sleepers at home and this happens also when we are on on trams as well for example if you’re talking to
Someone you cannot talk out loud you should respect you can talk at all at all yeah especially if you are speaking with another language so if you are I I hate this because I don’t have much time I work I go to the gym I have to
Cook we have to cook we have to go shopping so I I mean everyone in his everyday his or her everyday life has lots of things to do sometimes especially if you’re an exper you want to talk with your friends or with your family and the only spare time you have
Is when you are in public transportation you’re commuting for me it takes 45 minutes to go to my to the office so I like sending voice recording or talking uh to the phone with my mother or best friend and I cannot do it because everyone will stare and like complain
Sometimes it also happened that people were just saying shut up or something like this one time I was at the supermarket not in a tram not in my I like I don’t know in a small room I was in a huge supermarket and I was in line
And I was sending a voice recording to my mother just talking about a problem I had at home and I mean I wasn’t really happy about it so I was also not talking uh like my voice wasn’t loud I was talking like normally and a woman in
Front of me sped you yes she said like like not not exactly shut up at the beginning she said can you turn your head to the other side because I don’t want to hear you talking and obviously I replied I mean I’m not the kind of
Person who who just doesn’t reply I I said just go home if you don’t want hear people talking because I was talking like a normal person yeah it’s it’s because you were you were speaking with another language yeah I was speaking another language it happens here in
Germany guys it can happen there are still some people sometimes especially outside the city center or outside the most International neighborhoods that don’t like experts in it’s true it can happen now let’s go guys to the next step it is housing and neighborhoods when it comes to uh neighborhoods and
Housing my girlfriend knows better than me okay so yeah we live in BC and we really like it because it’s a really quiet and safe neighborhood is mostly residential area but there are lots of shops and grocery shops restaurants so you will find everything you need there is also the gym public transportation
Here is great because you can take the traum and go to the city center in just 10 minutes so perfect for us obviously here the night life is not so good so if you are more a night person you probably wouldn’t like leaving here uh there are
I think here in Berlin the good thing is that you can find what you like definitely so just have to choose the right neighborhood but the problem is that that you won’t be able to find the house where you want to live so we were just lucky in finding an apartment here
I think one of the best neighborhoods to leave apart from me which is the city center uh and obviously it’s a very fancy area with everything you need uh I think Prince lerberg is like the right mix mix of residential area quiet area and night life and bars and restaurants
Then there is charlottenburg which I also really like for me personally apart from Vice C Prince lerberg charlottenburg and M are like your favorite one also the most expensive the most expensive guys and we are always in me so in 30 minutes we’re going to go
There actually but if you live near me you will yeah we live near M we are lucky but obviously there are some neighborhoods that people like more like for example fredin which is also really good really near to and pretty safe and still with lots of restaurants and a
Good night life and also park there is cyberg which personally I don’t like but people like because it’s like the main point for clabs and night life noon also okay guys next step is Health Care there are some procedures to follow in order to set everything here in Berlin and she
Did everything so she can talk about it I was obviously lucky because I am from the EU and I have a job for a company so uh it wasn’t so difficult to subscribe to the um legal uh health insurance so you get to choose uh the um Insurance
You like the most I personally chose uh TK uh which is one of the few ones that let you speak in English they have have very good English customer service everything the documents and the application on your phone and everything is in English so for me it would be it
Was great and I think it’s the best option for expats you just have to register there and depending on whether you are self-employed or work for someone you will have to pay a fee uh in my case is automatically deducted from my salary and it’s uh paid partially
Like half I don’t know if it’s actually half but I pay a percentage and my employer pays uh another percentage and I really don’t know exactly the cost so it’s also based on how much you earn per month and when it comes to seeing whether it works well or not I’m luckily
An ly person so I don’t have particular health issues and I just have to book an appointment every now and then uh so for for me it works okay I use uh doct toib which is uh an app on your on the phone and you can just also filter if you want
A doctor speaking your language you can filter for Italian you can filter for English Spanish Portuguese which is great and and it’s also connected to the fact that Berlin is a very International City so also doctors speak different languages so you will find the doctor speaking your language but you will have
To wait so uh if you are okay with the doctor you’re just speaking English or German you can also find an appointment in the near term but if you want a specific doctor or you want a doctor speaking your language let’s say Italian you will have to wait at least for a
Couple weeks if not a month but then you just go there and they will tell you if the uh the appointment and the exams they will do are covered by the health insurance or not so you will get to choose if you want to do exams that are
Not covered by the health insurance but I think that the health insurance here covers most of the basic needs thank you very much now I want to talk about future outlook and also personal experiences because I think that when it comes for example to the crypto space
Here in Berlin I have to say that there are many events about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin ethereum and I don’t know if you are if you know something about cryptocurrencies but my main channel is about cryptocurrencies the Italian one so I really love the fact that there are
Many events about crypto and I went to many important events there was also an event about Solana so it’s something that you don’t find so easily in different cities all over the world and as regards the future outlook here I think that for the next Bull Run for
Example there will be a huge impact in Berlin as regards the crypto space events and so on there are many things that you should know before coming here it’s not easy especially in the beginning you should be prepared for this but after 5 6 months you can settle
Here and you can live a great life if you accept all the cons that you can find in Berlin in general if you go to Dubai during the winter exactly so exactly guys I’m living between Germany and UA as I said before so when there is
Winter here I go to Dubai for six months and life is great like this yeah I mean if you’re are a normal person and you are not living between two different countries like this you have to accept all the pros and cons of this city and talking about money I also want to
Mention that one of the reasons why I would still say that it’s worth it to live here is that the prices in general are not so high as we have said but the salary are compared to France or Italy or Spain are way higher so let’s say
That if you are graduated and you don’t even have much experience and you work for a company you could earn like starting from 2,000 2,500 or even more and your salary will get higher and higher as you get more experience but I’m not just talking
About people with a um a degree or uh strong background I’m also talking about like people just coming here in order to find a new opportunity I think salaries are pretty pretty good in all areas so also if you work in a restaurant or everywhere else so I think that the
Salaries are great compared to the cost of life here and also another thing talking about money which is not really connected to how much you earn but still something worth mentioning you have to use cash so that’s another con of of Germany and Berlin in particular cash everywhere they don’t accept cards
Sometimes I mean most of the time it’s crazy guys and it’s a very a pain in in the butt yeah unless you go to like big chains like supermarkets or fast food chains or famous restaurants you will have to have some cash on you yeah so
For you is it still worth it to live in Berlin 2023 as I said yes but uh probably uh it’s very difficult if you come here alone so I’m really lucky because I have him here every now and then uh but when I’m alone here so when
He’s not here with me I don’t have friends so it’s also because I’m pretty introvert but it’s not the only reason it’s really difficult to make friendship it’s difficult everywhere if you are in your 20s obviously it’s not as easy as when you were had school but here in
Germany is particularly difficult for the weather because you don’t go out it rains a lot and during the winter it’s freezing so you are not really in the mood of going out every shop shut at 5 yeah and also there are pubs okay but if you go there alone you won’t find like
Many people to talk to they’re not really friendly to flirt with you if you’re a girl maybe you will find someone flirting with you but I mean it’s not the the perfect way to to make friendship especially if if you have a boyfriend and there are meetups so
Sometimes we go to these events organized by Internationals and you get to know yeah there are ways to make friends not real friends yeah exactly you you don’t get to have a real friend to talk to and I mean that’s a big con it’s a fleeting relationship with these
People I think that in order to live here you have to like live really well on your own so be prepared to it with that being said guys thank you very much for watching the video till the end if you really liked it and if you found it
Useful leave a like down below and also consider subscribing to my channel in order to see as many videos as possible and more content like this and talking about this in a specific if you want us to make another video about maybe Berlin as regards the procedure to find an
Apartment here and so on renting all the kind of stuff she’s very keen on these things so let me know in the comments I think that this video was very general so if you want more details on specific topics just let us know and we can just
