Much of the Wadden Sea in the Netherlands and Germany has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as “one of the last great natural tidal ecosystems in which natural processes continue largely without human intervention”.

Hello again, my dear friends, subscribers and just random viewers of my channel! We are again walking on the shore of the Jade Bay, in German this bay is called Jadebusen. The last time we were here at the end of January, there was snow then, and this is the beginning of February
And the weather, as you can see, is completely different: it turned out to be a warm, almost sunny day between continuous rains and we went for a walk in good weather. This time we started our hike in the Cäciliengroden district in the municipality of Sande.
There is an educational trail through the salt marshes. A footbridge leads 100 meters into the salt marshes. Along the footbridge you will find boards with interesting information about the salt marsh. At the end of the bridge you can go down and walk another 300 meters to the edge of the mudflats.
Saltmarsh, or coastal saltmarsh, also known regionally as groden, hence the ending in the town’s name – CäcilienGRODEN is a coastal ecosystem, a tidal marsh, in the coastal zone between land and open salt water, which is regularly inundated by the tides. They form a natural transition and biological boundary between land and sea.
Dense thickets of salt-tolerant plants predominate here. In general, extensive salt marshes characterize the Jade Bay, which is the largest bay in the Wadden Sea National Park of Lower Saxony. The Wadden Sea of the North Sea is a tidal zone
With an area of approximately 11,500 km². This muddy bottom of the North Sea, exposed at low tide, is called the Wadden. This is the largest Wadden Sea in the world. The mud flats flood twice a day at high tide and dry up again when the tide goes out.
The average time between high and low tide is about 6 hours 12 minutes. The Wadden Sea is still a very young ecosystem; it serves as a resting place and source of food for many birds and fish. More than 10,000 different
Species of animals and plants have been found here. So it’s quite a habitable environment, although it doesn’t look that way at first glance. The Wadden Sea, off the North Sea coast in Lower Saxony, has been protected as a national park since 1986.
With an area of approximately 3,450 km², it is Germany’s second largest national park. t is simultaneously a UNESCO biosphere reserve and part of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is not the only national park on the Wadden Sea; only in Germany there are three parks:
Lower Saxony, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein national parks. The Wadden Sea National Park of Lower Saxony borders the Dutch Wadden Sea in the west and the Hamburg Wadden Sea National Park in the east. The national park begins off the coast at the seaward foot of the dam
And beyond the Wadden Sea, including the East Frisian Islands, as well as the marine areas around the islands. 40% of the total area of the park is occupied by Watt, 54.5% is water and the remaining 5.5% is the shore of the mainland and islands.
We walked (our colleagues didn’t tell us that we had to wear galoshes) to the edge of the bridge But we didn’t go further, because after our prolonged rains, even on top of the dam it’s dirty and slippery, like in a swamp, what can we say
About the tidal zone, and We didn’t take rubber boots with us. and we will walk further along the shore. But we won’t be able to walk further along this side of the dam, we had to go
To the inner side of the dam, since further on it was blocked – sheep usually graze there, and on the inner side there is a bicycle and pedestrian path along which we will take a walk. In addition, there are various information posters, various monuments, and sculptures.
We’ll take a little walk here and take a look. This is how we ended up with a short Saturday walk along the shores of the Wadden Sea. Let’s walk with you a little more, and I won’t load you with any more information
About the place where we live. If you are interested, you can watch other videos from different shores of the Jade Bay: in Wilhelmshaven or Dangast, in winter or summer. I’ll pin the link to the playlist. Enjoy your walk. This is where our walk ends.
Health, peace and goodness to everyone! And see you again on my channel. Bye bye!
