Hi everyone, first Reddit post ever here. I’m a road cyclist in need of some wisdom from the BMX folks.
Picked this unusual bike up a few weeks ago for next to nothing. Was buying some vintage mtbs and they threw this one in. Didn’t think much of it until I got it home and inspected it, could tell it had some interesting and quality parts on it. Have performed some cursory research but would like to open things up for discussion.
My threshold question is: what is this thing?
I’m given to understand that CW racing made some really high end BMX bikes in the 80s, and that at that time they dabbled in mtbs too. This bike seems to have features of both, though with possibly more BMX thank mtb. For instance, it has 26” wheels, but horizontal dropouts. Front and rear brakes, but the rear brake ridge appears to be to be homemade. BMX style crank and cockpit, etc.
It fits me fairly well at 6”, maybe a little small, so it’s a pretty large bike. Thoroughly looking forward to restoring it.
Any info or leads regarding further research would really be appreciated, thanks!
