This is my first post on this subreddit, so I apologize for any inconvenience or if this post is inappropriate. I moved to a bigger city for studies and needed a cheap way to get around, so I found a road bike for around 50€ on the local marketplace. I only cleaned and regreased it, and used it like that for about a year. After that time, the wheels started to wear down and the brakes began to fail. I decided to invest another 50€ and bought new wheels, tires, and a front brake. It was fine, but then I wanted to try riding fixed gear (my friend from a bike shop introduced me to it).
I attempted to secure a freewheel with two-component glue, and it sort of works. I like the idea behind riding fixed gear and how it feels. So here’s my question: Should I invest more and buy a proper fixed cog, straighten the chain line (by changing the bottom bracket – I bought one that was too wide), get a narrower chain, etc.? Or should I install a single-speed freewheel and give the bike to my brother, then find something more suitable for myself?
