Good morning and welcome to yet another road trip. This time the GWM Ora funky Cat. Or should I be calling it the zero three as it’s just been renamed in the UK. Now we’re heading to North Yorkshire to see the Volkswagen ID Buzz The thing

Is, this is the perfect opportunity to show us what the funky Cat’s all about. It’s an EV. It’s got a decent range And it’s got a price tag of around 30 grand. This is one little Welcome aboard. You’re a funky car. We’ve got a 48 kilowatt hour battery and an electric motor

And it develops around 170 brake horsepower. it’s about 30 grand. It seems to be. Well, not that we say 50 gram tech. This is just a first edition. There are more variants coming with bigger batteries. I know, but what an offering. For the first time in the UK,

It does take a lot of boxes, as you’d say, doesn’t it? Yeah, It helps the road really well, doesn’t it? Yeah. It’s what you might call planted that’s due to its weight isn’t it. I think it’s about 1.5 tonnes or 50 kilos which is quite a bit for a small family car

But comes with the territory when you get that you get excellent handling. The one thing you might notice is the steering is a little light, but that depends on what you’ve been driving because I’ve read reviews and now, it’s very like steering. I’m like, Well, it’s not dependent.

You’ve not been driving your 1991 Mercedes W once before. Now I’m used to it. It feels well balanced, to be honest. It’s nice and direct and I get great feedback. We can just glide around these corners. And that’s it. Heading to North Yorkshire. It’s going to give us the opportunity to see

What you get with the funky car. Sorry, I’ve just got a big grin on my face now. Electric vehicle. Luckily, it’s not as cold as it was last night because it was brassic. Thing is, it didn’t really affect the range as much as I thought it would.

I used about five miles to go to council for this fall and I had the heat is off all the way. So normally you see a drop of about 30 straight off the back. Well, it’s interesting with this car, isn’t it?

It’s one of the first we’ve seen where it doesn’t drop 20 to 30 miles when you put your hands up. Exactly. So you actually get what it costs. This is a real range. I think it claims around 200, but because it’s cold, you’re going to lose 30 or 40 anyway.

And that wind chill has been taking it’s like minus five up to that. Yeah, It’s so much fun. It’s premium throughout isn’t it. And I mean the construction, there’s no squeaks, there’s no rattles, there’s no bangs. It’s just a refined drive making a smooth ride.

Well it’s won awards in Germany was I tell you, I Mind you, the design language does remind me of Retro German. Drive, train. Wow One speed very easy to operate rotary dial down here and two pedal system Now one thing that is missing

Is any way to actually change the region level so there’s no paddles. But instead you’ve got the driving modes but it seems to do it adaptively anyway. So if you’re coming up to things, it seems to detect it like now it seems to think actually it’s a good time to reach it.

And you can see the green bar at the cluster going up was quite an intuitive system that isn’t it? It is decent visibility through out as well. it’s very easy to drive, can just literally get in it and go, whereas some vehicles you have to look around to see what am I doing.

Decent visibility through out as well. No blind spots to speak of either, but you’ve got blind spot detection and it will detect if you’re opening the door and this car coming behind you, stop beeping. So it means that you’re not going to get squished safety wise. This is tech loaded, isn’t it?

You’ve got collision mitigation. You’ve got points where it’ll take over the steering if it thinks something’s afoot. And I forgot, the road is closed. Wow. Four way traffic lights thing is, in an electric car, it’s not going to affect your range. We can just sit here and we know we’re not guzzling petrol.

Made you say, Nah, I don’t want to be parked in a blind hell, which we all Yeah. Kind of creeping. Yeah. Put the fans on for a little bit. Let’s see. How quickly is rapid? Very rapid. So we set up with 150 miles. We’ve used one.

It’s far better than you give it credit for. I mean, granted, it is seven degrees, so you’ll keep your range far longer anyway, Can hear that sci fi noise ramps up when you go in slower speeds and yes, electronic handbrake, we’ve got hill start assist.

So let’s go into little more depth with the safety. So you’ve got AEB, you’ve got collision mitigation, you’ve got adaptive cruise control for your convenience amp with stop go and all types of things. It is it’s pretty damn advanced the closeness lovely. It’s what you might call straightforward forward.

You can even see the vehicles around you so I can see the vehicles parts in the right. I can see that I’ve got this van in front of me and then it’ll also show vehicles coming towards us as well. So it’s permanently aware. Got two little haptic buttons in the steering.

Well, if I press this one, the camera. Hello, Laura. What? Can you close my window, please? Closing passenger area. That’s rather clever, if you’ve noticed, because it can tell where you are. Exactly. Hello, Laura? Yes, I’m here. Can you put my window down, please? Alright. Opening. Thank you. Alexa. Alexa.

Hello, Laura, Can you close the window, please? vibrant area. sport. Before. No, if you flora in the rain. Yes, it will Wheelspin. Also, if you cut you off, God, it can do a little bit of wheelspin in the. Wow. We had some baselines, didn’t he? Right. I’m going to activate auto

Because I’m assuming that will be the most efficient. So you do have to put your foot down a little more in sport. It’s way more responsive, is great. So you can get out of trouble if you need to put up junctions easily. Well,

That’s why I think auto is the best suited, isn’t it? Because it gives you enough power, but it also gives you efficiency, too. I’ve only used three miles. What is it? Six? Yeah. Tire noise. You will get a bit if you get off the motorway. If you get somewhere nice.

It’s rather quiet, but bear in mind, you’ve got 18 inch wheels anyway, so that usually wraps up the sound, but it is very refined in here, isn’t that it is. Also, you’ve got like a mid-range tire, so it’s not too low profile. So that also helps those acceleration. Wow. That is a

It can move impressive so far. So we’re going to be doing a journey of around. What is it? Yeah, something like a touch further. So what was the range when we started on 50? Wow. That is very impressive. that just as well. This is rather responsive so turn to sound and then

Not to stop others. You just slide it. Let’s put it in sport mode, see what it’s made of. wipers are it’s been delivered and not been activated every day. So that’s As expected in sport it to start using the range far quicker. The best bet. Probably also why we call it a slow

And carried away with a is more sporting than I realized to be honest. We still expect to wear it all to wear in sport you can feel the difference as well through the pedal. If I let the throttle, it just goes you can compare the lane.

Keep assist and certainly keep a hand on it. The thing is, it’s not too overzealous either. So that’s great fun and eco for a bit. you can certainly feel the power lesson I’m trying to work out is, is the reach and changes of various modes. So eco tends to coast

Still feel quite a strong region for change. It also does as it pleases, which is good. Also, I am beginning to think you might have either environmental awareness or some kind of GPS tracking that reads that actually that bends a bit tight. I’m going to scope a bit of speed off.

So let’s see, let’s put it in. Yeah. Go as far as to say the regions adaptive. I don’t think it matters which mode you’re in because it doesn’t get excessively heavy in sport and that’s because Yeah it’s it’s enough speed as far as down to the limit while

Okay now is intelligence it is for 30 grand car no you get a lot for the money on this you really did and it is big enough for the family is now that’s for suspension and ride it’s comfortable it’s not speaking his passengers very comfortable at great visibility for these nice big windows.

You’ve got an enjoyable right now. It’s pleasant. It really is is the thing is doesn’t feel numb gives you a nice, comfortable ride. But it still feels not it still feels nimble, agile wow, these are done words engaging. There’s any other word for it. Really know

It’s what you might call a captivating vehicle. Turns heads everywhere it goes. It looks so retro, yet not this practical. It’s versatile. It’s got a great price. I think you’ve nailed it then when you said captivating, but design. This car is a car. I mean,

And everything that I’ve seen and felt about so far fetched that it’s there to be part of your lifestyle, to be a friend of the family or even part of the family, to believe, even mentioned some of its design language makes it look like an animal. So you bond with it.

Well, we’re going to love it anyway because it’s called a cat. Well, it’s actually funky cat. You got one chance to put your name across and, you know, make a Yeah, yeah. with a funky cat. Well, it does in one go, doesn’t it? Yeah.

Remember Annabel, you got five year warranty with the limited mileage. Wow. They will have a lot of faith in this power. I got. Yeah. They get forward. They know it’s going to perform well. Well, that’s it. It’s a fair mark up on the steed, But as we’ve seen,

Even the advancements, especially from the China markets. Wow. You haven’t just come on in leaps and bounds of the Palestinians. Yeah. yeah. They’re making their mark globally. such a pleasant experience traveling around at 30 miles an hour. Beautiful little village. Malik. joining motorways, traveling on A-Roads. Absolutely no problem.

It puts its power down. Well, I think it’s not 16 around a three. And the fact it backs off the bends meet. You can concentrate. You need to do ten the driving experience, which is pretty damn good sailing along at 50. It’s pleasant, isn’t it? It’s so smooth.

Know, I could see spending a long time on one of these going on adventures, long journeys, road trips, Still doing well with our range as well. 139 miles. Well, we’ve definitely travel more than 11 miles away. yeah. Label. And we’ve hardly been in more mode either.

We’ve done quite a lot of acceleration, etc.. What the agility. I just wish it wasn’t let I just train that it’s got good stopping. Power brakes are good. Yeah. Let’s do so round the emergency steering function activated. In other words, lane keep system. I say it’s got high level safety, but

It doesn’t interfere with your driving experience. It’s just there is overwatch, which is what I prefer. roadside rep. Wow. Yeah. We roadside recognition. You know. What? Are you going for it? Yeah, so do I. well, taking the racing license is nothing coming? Yeah, that’s the thing about this road, isn’t it? This fantastic.

Wow. What about. I think that’s enough of that. Fine. You led great through and you can adjust the beam down here because you know, for Yorkshire, This is what you call seriously intelligent when you’re coming up to vehicles in front of, say, traffic lights, the vehicle to scrub the speed of to stop.

Yeah, fully because I’m on the road but whenever they back off I don’t need to write. So they just breaks the limit. And I must stress that’s not an adaptive It’s not just all the mitigation systems. You’ve also got detection systems left, right, center, pedestrian, bicycle.

Some of the videos I’ve seen, you know, the way they detect some of the walking and cycling and it does it’s a remarkable job, to be honest. I still can’t believe the price of this vehicle. Also on that note, it’s only five. I suppose

If you let it, the vehicle would essentially drive itself. However, this would not be very happy and this monitors you to make sure you’re not falling asleep, looking out the window, etc., etc.. Thing is, it’s not invasive either. It’s not nagging me to say keep your eyes and straight out the windscreen.

I look right for a split second look in a glance around the cabin. It’s fine. Funnily enough, one of the tech divisions of GWM looks at driver safety. Autonomous driving. That’s kind of technology, so it actually makes sense how responsive and alert these systems are in this car. It’s extremely good.

It is so attentive. I mean, if I it’s braking now, all the vehicles coming down to about 30 miles an hour and look at the gap. It’s given us how you can override it with the accelerator. But if you let me do that in a region as well.

So it’s a win win scenario. Exactly. When you’re doing that, you can see the green bar climb so that we get region. Now, we’ve already mentioned it’s comfortable, but if you throw into a bat, you will see the body lean ever so slightly.

It’s not excessive body roll, it just makes it more comfortable. But the actual chassis due to the weight to the vehicle just means it stays glued to the road. So even though the chassis is moving on top, the actual dry train, chassis, etc. is literally glued down.

I mean, don’t go testing that ridiculous speeds, but if you’re having a nice, you know, high spirited jaunt, it’ll take it with ease. one thing I’m going to have to stress is don’t let the range put you off. Yeah, it may say 200 and is closer to, say, 165 on a cold day,

But we’ve just done about three miles of twisty turns doing about 50 miles an hour. And we’ve used about a mile. So the silence at whatever it snowballs is pretty accurate. Look, we’re just coming up to a destination we’ve traveled. dear. I’ve missed it. What is it? This is this one.

So it’s 28 miles the distance, and we’ve used 28 miles. So considering I’ve had it in sport and I’ve been doing accelerations, launches and all types of things. I’m pretty damn impressed with the likelihood you can get it down to anything from 15 to 20 if you believe in water

Or maybe even eco. We don’t give you far more range than you expect. So like I said before, I don’t know the range of the vehicle put you off because they’ve said rather well. driver.

  1. I've had mine for 3 months and on the whole pleased with it, except the lane keep assist I find very intrusive, but can be switched off every time you use the car, but my main gripe is, NO rear wiper and in bad weather this is really needed, but this car is loaded with tech and tells me off for no reason when passing a car

  2. It's certainly 'different' 😊a bit gimmicky but different.! Colour combination suits the 🚗. It's an EV so not my cupoa tea but each to their own as i like to add . Great review thought planet auto 🚘 👍 👌

  3. Great vlog guys , I’ve just got Renault Megane E tech , I would love for you to get one and do a road trip to see what you think , I believe it’s up there with the best in that sector

  4. We had one for a 24 hour test. Liked the interior, unlike some others, there's plenty of space for rear seat passengers.
However, downsides were no heated seats, no heated steering wheel and compared to the price in China and against competition, it's at least £15,000 over priced. For the same price, a better overall package is a used Tesla Model 3.
