I bought some new brakes for my gravel bike but didnt realise that the old brakes were using “140mm” adaptors even though the rotors are 160mm. So the pads on my new brakes, with 160mm adaptors, dont align with the rotors.

The 140mm adaptor on the old brake and the 160mm adaptor on the new brake look identical, the difference is in the brake caliper itself. The new one is just bigger, with the pads further away from the mounting point.

Flipping the mount the other way makes it even further out, not closer.

Is there an easy solution to this? Would a 180mm rotor work? Or is there a mount that would let these brakes fit a 140mm rotor, which would in theory fit 160mm here?

Also, the back brake seems to fit perfectly when it is installed with no adaptor plate, just bolted directly onto the frame. Is this safe to do?

Thanks!
