Let’s look at what we’ll be trying to learn today the first thing is that I would like us to discuss what a lie is because in the Contemporary World there are lots of explanations for what lies are there are different colors of Lies there are white lies and black lies and gray lies
And different things so if you’re willing to cooperate with me please let’s find out what those things are number two we want to look at go to the objective slides please slide number two thank you we want to look at the incentives for lying so why do people lie why do rational people
Lie then we want to look at what the Bible says about lying what does our manual say about lying number four we want to figure out what the implication of telling lies are what are the consequences do we gain something do we lose something and then finally we want to
Look at how we can eliminate the lying habits and how God can help us praise God okay so without going back to that slide let’s see if we can remember the memory verse everybody one 2 go forever very good very good fantastic and that is Proverbs 12: 19 that’s why I
Like that version it’s very simple all right what is a lie if we move to slide number five I think slide number four okay so what is a lie thank you a lie is defined as a false statement made with the deliberate intent to deceive or to convey a false impression now
A false statement made with the deliberate intent to deceive or convey a false impression so the first thing that I took out of that was that the speaker has to know that what they are saying is not true if you make a statement that you believe is true but that statement
Isn’t true then from your perspective you’ve not told the LIE the statement may still not be true but you didn’t know and that is a complete different issue that we might need to deal with in another Sunday school which is don’t talk about things you don’t know because that is a different kettle
Of trouble but here we are limiting ourselves to things that we know are not true and we are saying that they are through what this means is that lying is a deliberate bending of the structure of reality so you know that something is like this but you want
To shape it you want to obfuscate you want to make it look like that’s not what it is you’re trying to bend the structure of reality now because there is a statement there that says deliberate intent this means that there must be an intent there must
Be um a self serving in intent or self motivating intent or the LIE has to be beneficial to the speaker in some way you must be gaining something or at least not losing something by making that statement usually and in most cases when people tell lies is because they want to
Gain something or they want to avoid losing something and they’re not usually saying it to benefit the person that they listening that they are speaking to okay so now that we’ve made that um we have clar verified this um is there a truth to this that there are white lies

This why in court they say you should tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth are those three statements they will make you say those three statements if they didn’t mean three different things I would assume okay yes please so um I I feel like it’s
Not um a technically it is still a lie but um I I to I I would say that um so you know Lazarus yes that’s a very good one and um Jesus when Jesus was told he was um dead yeah sleeping um um basically he was just
Like he was sleeping as well because um in the context of um the the story he was actually dead but um G but um um Jesus knew that um Lazarus was just sleeping so I feel like it’s not um is it’s a lie but um but um but I feel like

Was son of consolation or something like that and that was what made ananas and saf decide oh we want to have clout we want to make a name we want to show that we can do something and so they went and concocted up their deal and brought it
To church which led to their early demise one of the reason why people lie in the modern age is to impress people and gain accolades we find this a lot in social media and it’s it’s quite prevalent so we can argue what we like about okay
Someone died is that a lie is that not a lie that’s a very narrow case let’s talk about what is happening what people are doing doing a lot these days it’s about trying to portray a false image and picture of yourself and it’s in order to
Show that you are doing well or to impress people or to gain the accolades of people and that can be dangerous that can be dangerous to you that can be dangerous to the people around you in the case of ananas and safh they lost their lives because they
Were trying to pretend to be something that they were not the second one that I found particular particularly interesting is the intergenerational lying story in the family of the Abrahams where Abraham goes somewhere and he says to his wife say that I am your sister and he nearly gets the whole
People in there into trouble and God has to come and deliver him in fact Abraham does that twice and it shows up in his son Isaac his son travels somewhere and does exactly the same thing now why am I bringing this up it’s because us as parents there are certain lies that when
We tell them they become intergenerational our children learn to tell those lies and there’s a recorded example in the Bible now in Abraham’s case and Isaac’s case they were bail out God bail them out but sometimes God doesn’t baild out all the lies so that’s one of the things that I seriously want
To point out there are lies that become entrenched there are lies that went told they become entrenched and we should try to avoid that okay let’s quickly take a couple of reasons are there any other reasons that I haven’t pointed out why people lie any other reasons to helps to
Help others okay kind of what we have discussed okay yes like Rahab yes yes I remember Rahab and the spies that came and they told that oh don’t say that we were here and she and her family got saved okay so there are multiple examples of that any other examples any other examples
Yes to get an advantage yes very good and we will talk about that um soon all right so what the Bible says about lying let’s move on to the next um slide what the Bible says about line we have about 8 minutes oh okay we spent a lot of time
In that first one okay so first thing is that the Lord hates lying in Proverbs 22:12 6:1 16 and 17 thank you so much I can see someone taking a picture of the slides you might you’re free to do so so that you can actually go home and study
It that thing is loaded um Liars are cut off from God that scripture says that God will remove Liars from his presence God doesn’t like liars to be around him um the third one is that lying is evidence of the old devilish nature the devil is a liar and the people with the
Nature of the devil lie that’s what the devil does his primary job is bending reality that is the primary job of the of the devil is to come in and say you are saved but he will try to convince you that you are not saved you have the abundance of the
Riches of Christ in you the devil will come and tell you no you are broke you are poor you will never be rich you will struggle that’s what is trying to do you are delivered what the devil will come and do is no you are not delivered that
Is the primary thing that the devil does and so we have to be careful to watch out for that because that is the old nature and if we allow that in our lives that is evidence that we are still connected to the devil talking about what our brother
Said lying to get an advantage Proverbs chap 21:6 says that people who lie I think that scripture says it leads to death um I think wealth acquired by lying or something like that if we can find it please Pro Proverbs Chapter 21:6 can someone find it quickly and then Psalms chapter 12 verse
Two God can Deliver Us from a lion Tong this is something that God can Deliver Us from and very importantly and the scripture that I want to end with is John chapter 8:32 and it says you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free
There is a freedom in truth because when you lie you have to uphold the lie because the LIE is not the structure of reality you now have to uphold it you now have to defend it you now have to patch it you have to when the LIE is
Threatening to fall apart you have to maintain it and sometimes some lies can get so big that you can’t actually maintain it by by yourself so it then becomes a cage it becomes a prison that the truth releases us from has someone found Proverbs Chapter 21:6 yes please thank
You I’ll read NLT for your New Living Translation thank you he says wealth created by a lying tongue is a Vanishing mist and a deadly trap wealth created by a lying tongue is a Vanishing Mist it doesn’t last and it is a deadly trap when I read that scripture it touched me
I was like ish all right John Let’s be careful here that one hit me all right so very important so God can Deliver Us from a lion Tong it is something that God can Deliver Us from and when that Deliverance comes by truth it brings Freedom all right let’s move on to the
Next slide bear in mind I have five minutes how how do we get deliverance from a lying tongue lying is a habit okay now when we have habits we don’t just stop a habit in order to stop a habit you have to replace that habit so this is why people who drink
Who have an addiction to alcohol find it difficult because many times there’s a lot of things that happens around that addiction or people who smoke they go to a PB they sit with their friends they have a conversation so if you say all right I don’t want to do this thing again then
You have to replace all that time you have to replace all that conversation you have to replace so you don’t just stop a habit you replace it it’s like a software you have to uninstall and then install something else this is why the the fundamental thing that that um
Salvation does is that it translates us from the kingdom of the devil into the kingdom of the of his dear son God doesn’t just save us and then leave us because even in the Bible Jesus said if a demon is cast out of somebody and nothing is done then after wondering a
While the demon will come back and check is there any other software running here and if there isn’t the virus will come back and download seven more viruses and the state of the computer will be worse than it was before so it’s not just enough to say I want to remove lying it
Is that you have to install a new software okay so how to install that new software is number one you have to be saved and you have to constantly be conscious of of your new nature in Christ of saying I am a new creation a creation in Christ doesn’t do
This okay I tell the truth I am a this and it’s about becoming intentional about truth telling becoming intentional about truth telling and then one very important thing we can do for self-control is I call it reducing our word count so you know when you have
An essay they say 10,000 words and if you’ve ever written a thesis before you start out you know trying to multiply words so that you can reach the word count and in so doing you’re going to say something that is obviously wrong because you’re trying to and then after
A while you then exit that word count at least that was what happened to me so I I started out thinking how am I going to hit 10,000 words and then and over time by the end I was like oh how can I reduce this thing okay so when you’re
Trying to say so many words inevitably you’re going to start saying something that is false and so one of the very easy ways low hanging fruit to cut out the spirit of lying is to reduce what you are saying is to reduce it if you bring it
To a bare minimum then you can then you actually able to edit properly to say is this thing working is it true or not in the multitude of words there is sin is one of the scriptures in there and I and I really really appreciate those who are

Right and I was able to avoid that tree and I was really shaking up like wow cuz it wasn’t a tiny tree it was like if I had not I wouldn’t have been able to break on time if there was a car on the other side what so I was really shaking
Up and I was telling my husband like oh wow see what’s just happened to me and I was I was reading the news like the next morning and I saw that oh they’ve lost like four people in the storm and one was because they drove into a falling
Tree in the road I was like oh wow Hallelujah I just thank God for saving my life for keeping his promise over my life praise the Lord hallelujah thank you very much we bless the name of the Lord for that powerful testimony are you ready after get ready Tim let’s put our hands

Another thing to sustain God did both in my life Hallelujah I want to thank God because there was a period last year when I was there for over a month in my right ear I couldn’t hear anything literally when people are talking I would have to turn my ear and listen to
Them and when I went to the GP like oh yeah it happens you know it’s one of those things I was like I’m I’m almost going there I was even thinking maybe I would need a surgery or something but I want to thank God that I can hear with both ears
Today I also want to thank God for the gift of men and the gift of community um this may be one thing that we will take for granted I want to borrow from one of God’s Apostles quote you said the gift of God comes from Men to men through men
I want to thank God that God has used this church to actually position men in strategic places when I’m in trouble I can call on this men and they actually turn up for me all glory belong to God hallelujah somebody shout hallelujah they say count your blessings

Legs his blood pressure was through the roof my mom called the ambulance took him to the hospital and I just want to thank God that he was only in the hospital for five days he recovered his speech his legs were fine he can walk he can talk
He can do all that he needs to do and he said in in the ward where they were there were six of them all um stroke patients and he said in that Ward out of six of them he was the only one who could walk who could talk everyone
Else was you know in a critical uh condition but I just want to thank God that in just five days in fact it was sooner than five he was discharged in 5 days but it was sooner than 5 days his health was restored God restored his health my second testimony is uh towards
The end of last year in December the devil also struck my mother-in-law she had a heart attack and after doing all the tests and everything it didn’t make sense the numbers they were seeing it didn’t make sense that she was still alive it did not make sense that she was still alive
I know that God kept her what the enemy meant for evil the Lord turned it around for our good he gave us a testimony out of that third testimony um I was coming out of my house I was driving out of my house anyone that knows where I live we live
Right in front of a mini roundabout and it’s a nightmare to come out from there especially during um The Busy times so this was in the morning School run times I was trying to come out and I looked and I sat it moving out but by the time I knew what was
Happening there was a truck coming from this direction so coming towards me basically so it’s a mini roundabout so he was coming this way and before I know it he was right the truck was right in front of me another second and we would have collided a split second we would
Have collided it was not another car it was a truck I had kazia sitting at the front of the car with me and I don’t even want to to think or imagine what would have happened if we we collided I just want to thank God for preventing
That accident you know it’s it’s the little things we take for granted I put I forgot that I put um well I don’t know how I put a spoon in the microwave and turned it on it was there for five minutes and when I opened I saw there was a spoon inside but
Nothing happened nothing happened you know Silly stupid mistakes that we made we make but God fights for us God sees us so I just want to give all the glory to God to The God Who fights our battles to the god that sees me thank you Jesus thank you Jesus thank you God
