Super League Malta is renowned and feared for a huge uphill climb on the course that pros have to climb on both the run and the bike. At a 6% gradient for 400m that the pros have to traverse close to 10 times each race, it’s one hell of a hill.
Richard Murray, one of triathlon’s best cyclists, takes you on a first hand tour of Mount Malta right here!

Yeah so this is the bike course preview here in Malta and this is the section just before we come through transition this quite a fast section through year we hit a right into a left that literally comes straight into the dismount area before transition so bifel direct going through yeah this is
Obviously riding on brick on the surface and pop it on top of it we come through the athletes lunches on the right here and you can see all the athletes coming out on the right and this section was all pave bricks I’m just getting out to settle here and accelerating coming
Coming across the transition area and you can see the different flags of all the nations and stuff coming through on the right hand side that’s pretty much the bridge where we head up camera drop down here a little bit I think so I have to lift it up but you’ll hit through
This right-hand turn getting off the saddle putting the power down and this is where we head up the the molten mountain as they call it and yeah there we go you can see more few going up the mountain and that’s about a 400 meter climb at about 6% gradients
All the flags and stuff on the right-hand side here we’re doing five to six hundred plus what’s going up here which is some solid effort going down now we’re going up the climb at the top of this hill though we hang a left on unluckily on the bike course we couldn’t
Couldn’t do this section this is the finishing sheet we’re going through we don’t actually go through yeah so the course heads up to the left there and we do a u-turn where we turn around and right in front of us you can see this band we come down the section on the
Left here with a car saw probably hit the speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers an hour going down here which is little bit scary sometimes and especially with the barriers being close by it’s straight down to this bottom section where we do a 270 degree right-hand turn speeds thereof ten fifteen kilometres an
Hour pull on the brakes you can obviously the brake smaller brake pads burning while we hit down the mountain so it’s pretty steep we come from the left here and this is the section where we hit back through towards transition it’s about 700 meters into the course and the section is quite
Fast coming down here we really got to be on our a-game the guys this is where we dismounted only getting into out of there cycling shoes and we dismounted will be we’ll be putting our bikes through its transition and heading out onto the run and yeah that is the bike course preview
