Being a rider that uses my bike for practical use around town, knowing I have to wear a helmet by law, I just hated the way bike helmets in general look (even know I know the style applies for different needs). I had a typical road helmet, but I just couldn’t take it.
About 13 years ago, I found [this neat looking bike helmet from Bern](https://www.bernhelmets.com/collections/bike-helmets/products/summer-watts), and thought, “Okay, now *this* is more my style.” (The helmet on their site isn’t the exact model, but it looks the same. Plus, it seems more equestrian-looking, though I bought it from a bike shop, and it’s sold under Bern’s bike helmets.)
Now, I thought I’d share the next best thing I found, for those who are like me, self-conscious about what’s on their head. It’s the idea for a helmet to have a cover over it to look like a hat. They are made by [Yakkay](https://yakkay.com/) and they’ve been around since 2008. They *are* expensive, but in my opinion, worth it.
I realize that some helmet serve a different purpose, depending on the style of riding with the shape and technology being a factor. But for someone like me, cruising around town, running errands, going shopping, I didn’t need to take much of that into consideration.
Anyway, I hope this helps give someone an idea of an alternative to the usual bike helmets. 🙂
