Hi all, I’ve recently bought an old 1981 Pro-Miyata, it’s a very neat old bike but the previous owner(s) have just beaten the crap out of this thing.
Its seatpost is stuck, and while trying to get to the bottom bracket, I’ve found that the threads in the drive-side crank arm, holding it to the BB, are stripped. I’ll probably be able to get it off by hammering it from the back.
But going forward, is there a way to repair this crank arm? I’ve heard of but never used products like helicoil and timeserts, are they useful in this application and can they be installed by a novice?
