Today our journey is from Châtelet to rue de Rennes via lovely St.Germain district. We ride along Rivoli street and you can see Saint James’s Tower at your left. It’s a 52-metre Gothic tower, that is the only remnant of a 16th-century church demolished during the French Revolution.
Rue de Rivoli was created by Napoleon to connect the Place de la Concorde and the Louvre Palace. Famous SAMARITAINE department store is at our left. We will see it again after our turn to quai du Louvre.
SAMARITAINE founded by Ernest Cognacq and Marie-Louise Jaÿ in the late 19th century. It has been closed since 2005 and reopened in 2021 after a long renovation by LVMH. Louvre Palace shows up at our left with all its glory.
At our left is the church of Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois was founded in the 5th century and named after a medieval bishop who met Saint Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris. We will turn left to quai du Louvre to cross Seine river via Pont Neuf. SAMARITAINE store is at our left.
We are entering the Pont Neuf: The oldest standing bridge across the river Seine The construction of the bridge started in 1578 under Henry III, resumed in 1599 under Henry IV, and completed in 1607. Entering Saint-Germain district – one of the most fashionable and expensive in Paris.
Rue de Buci, my favorite street in Paris. Street named after Simon de Buci, a 14th-century president of the Parliament of Paris. The street was home to several artists and writers, such as Henri Théophile Hildibrand, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Simone de Beauvoir. Crossing boulevard Saint-Germain. Rue de Rennes, you can see Montparnasse tower
Rue de Rennes is a major commercial street in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, named after the city of Rennes. The street was home to some famous personalities, such as Simone de Beauvoir, François Hollande, and Ségolène Royal.
