Chipping Warden Green Tunnel in Northamptonshire is being built on the surface using a pioneering off-site manufacturing approach to speed up construction and improve efficiency.

This approach will see more than five thousand giant concrete tunnel segments made in a factory in Derbyshire before being assembled on site. The completed tunnel will then be covered by earth, with trees, shrubs and hedgerows planted to fit in with the surrounding countryside.

Chipping Warden is one of five ‘green tunnels’ that are being built on phase one of the HS2 project, which is designed to improve links between London, Birmingham and the north.

Flying drones – despite being legal and safe – is frowned upon by so many ignorant and ill-informed people. As we tried to get footage of the start of the Greatworth Green Tunnel, HS2 security obstructed us and so we had to end the flight and leave this site for another day.

HS2 Traffic Marshals allowed us to walk along the public road to where we were flying, then security rocked up and told us we had to leave. When we questioned it, they admitted it was a public road but also a construction site and asked us to leave. So, to avoid conflict and any problems, we did what they asked – they were only looking out for the safety of people on site given the large plant driving around. Sadly this meant we were unable to get the footage we wanted.

Foreign [Applause] Foreign foreign Foreign ERS traveling between London and crew will travel through a number of tunnels some will be built using giant tunnel boring machines whilst others will be built using the cut and cover method of construction with trees and shrubs planted on Top This is why they’re known as green tunnels

This is a simple method of construction for shallow tunnels and we’re building these to help reduce the impact on people and nature the construction is divided into three stages first a cutting is excavated where the green tunnel is needed the excavated Earth is kept close by as it will be needed later on

In the second stage the concrete floor is laid and pre-cast segments are installed forming the structure of the tunnel finally the Earth removed from the area is backfilled and new trees and shrubs are planted on top blending the tunnel into the landscape and connecting wildlife habitats along the line of the route

You need to get a finisher to get on the side because this is a public road this is a public rule yeah but what you’re doing now is a construction site yeah that’s right you need to have a level of maybe have you got some akinbor for 10 minutes

No not at all okay I’m going to stay on the public road because the construction site starts so imagine over there does this but while I’m on the public road I don’t need to wear the hive is that is why the Wood is closed okay yeah so the

Moment the road is closed there’s no more to the public because it’s close to construction work the road’s closed for traffic for construction works so why does that guy let me through that guy so he says we can walk too he doesn’t do anything it’s just um traffic

Martial so he’s just a traffic machine traffic Marshall it doesn’t allows people through on a public side he doesn’t know that I don’t know why he’s here so I can go the other side of the battery and fly from there yeah I can go outside she just don’t want me on this

Side here no we don’t want you on this side but I can go the other side of that barrier okay all right I’ll do that yeah all right no problem uh what’s your name sir yeah and because of hs2 and what they’re doing I’m just interested in I mean boys

Interested here and getting some footage of the great of the greatest green tunnel we’re going through the chipping Warden to do some footage over there as well we’re just gonna put a video together for YouTube that’s on the spot yeah that’s what we need to lead this information into our supervisor so that

They are aware that somebody’s buying a broom yeah that’s why this actually you know I don’t need permission to fly over your site though yeah yeah but when you you need a permission to get on the side to get on the side yes but not fly over your site

I can fly over the side from a public road and that’s perfectly loud on the CE rules you know that yeah because you will have other people flying drones and if you can confirm this on the CEO website as well under the drawing code you can fly a drone over private land

And commercial land providing you do it from a public road so you’re seeing I’m not allowed on this bit of road so what I’ll do is I’ll go the other side of the barrier where it’s not closed and I’ll fly from there and that’ll keep everybody happy yeah yeah okay cool all

Right bring it back in thanks the reason I want to come here is because I’ve got a clear line inside of where I’m going I’m closer to it it’s just a bit safer for everybody around who’s flying but if you don’t want me here I can go the other side find a gap

In the trees and put it across over my only thing yeah because it’s not safe here that’s fine he’s explained it’s fine and I’ve just seen the truck come down so that’s fair enough I understand so I’ll just shift down I parked down there and he said I was all right

Parking and walk down so yeah all right no problem I’ll do that thank you very much YouTube

  1. Nice music. That propagandist sprightly female voiceover doesn't fool me. Cut and cover tunnels -'We're building these to help reduce the impact on people and nature.' Well your cut and cover tunnel extension north of Greatworth is not reducing the impact on the people of Thorpe Mandeville because the portal is now a quarter mile closer to the village right? And the same tunnel extension is not reducing the impact on nature at the same place because it is cutting straight through a watercourse and knocking out the entire ecology of the valley below, a problem which HS2 cannot resolve along with the other problems despite billions upon billions of pounds piled on top of the creaky HS2 foundations, all of it collapsing under the weight

  2. 32 miles of tunnels through the middle of now where, and bridges over gravel pits, plus poor project management, are to blame for HS2 being cancelled for the 20 million in the North.

  3. If you want to avoid detection in the future, it is important to follow a few principles:

Maintain discretion: Avoid suspicious behavior and do not draw attention to yourself.
Dress appropriately: Adjust your attire to blend in with the environment and avoid standing out too much.
Avoid sudden movements: Move smoothly and without unnecessary abrupt gestures.
Avoid direct eye contact: Do not maintain prolonged eye contact with security or other individuals.
Avoid using bright light or flash: If you need to use a recording device, make sure it does not emit too much light.
Choose strategic positions: Position yourself to have a good perspective while also avoiding direct attention.
Find natural cover: Use elements of the surroundings that can conceal your presence.
Avoid revealing sounds: Turn off sound on your device if possible, or use quiet modes.
Act like a local resident: Mimic the habits and behaviors of people who reside in the area.
Be aware of your surroundings: Observe the reactions of the environment to respond to changes in the situation.
Remember that all actions should be in accordance with the law and ethics. Illegal practices or violating regulations can have serious consequences.

  4. The madness of the unnecessary scale at which HS2 was planned is really our fault collectively. We can’t let a sign post be sunk in the ground without environmental assessment, archaeological study, feasibility and business case, 2 years of negotiation, 40 middle managers, and so on and so on….it could’ve been 1/5th the construction path with 1/5th the environmental impact. What good is all this if it never gets finished or used?

  5. Asking the public to believe they're "doing their bit for the environment" is ludicrous & nonsensical. HS2 Ltd have already incurred numerous fines for multiple breaches of environmental issues – thousands of trees planted along the route in Warwickshire where the vast majority perished due to lack of aftercare.
The pollution of streams, rivers & other waterways with toxic chemicals.
The bulldozing of mile upon mile of hedgerows containing nesting birds when they specifically said they'd wait until the nesting season was over .. the list goes on.
HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century.
