I way over dressed for my ride this weekend. Left the house and it was -9f in Minneapolis and when I got to the trail we climbed to -3! No wind and totally sunny so it was kind of perfect.
I wore bib-leggings under my cross country ski pants, wool socks and my waterproof Obez hiking boots. Up top was a moisture wicking T and also 1/4zip, my Patagonia 1/4 zip, puffer coat and then my rain shell on top. 35min in and I could wring the sweat out of my Patagonia and puff coat- I was a full layer too heavy.
I ended up taking my poggies off and just ran with my snowboarding gloves, finger tips got a bit chilled but came back once I got real hot.

I did about 6 miles of single track and boy, was it a grind. I knew it would be slower and harder but even the hard pack made it feel 3x mote challenging than the same trails on my hardtail normal weather. Woof. You loose so much momentum in the snow that you’re never just coasting, couple that with low psi and I was working pretty hard to just stay moving. But that’s the point, right?
