Meanwhile outside the Village of Church Eaton what an absolute monster you’ll need a long tape measure for this one Hey Good good evening we begin today with a look at a constant and worsening problem across the region potholes which according to new figures released today National pole day are at a 5-year High the motoring organization the AA has revealed it dealt with almost 632,000 poto related incidents last year causing damage estimated at
474 million pounds across the UK we’ve been asking you to nominate some of the most affected areas where you live Matthew emson from Burton Upon Trent is just one of a number of people getting in touch I think if you’re looking for the road with the most potholes then you
Should stop now because I think you found it we’ve got a a sort of 80 m road called Warren Lane that leads to where I live and the family live and we took some pictures I think around 36 Pooles really quite deep and quite large as
You’ll see in the pictures in a 30 m stretch and uh in the 80 meter stretch we’ve counted over 60 getting worse and worse over the past sort of 18 months or so people are you know complaining having to get tires fixed having to get wheels realigned in some cases tires
Have bur and it’s damaged the uh the actual frame of the wheel we’ve been in contact with the local MP we’ve been in contact with the burough Council and with the County Council whose responsibility the highways are uh and each time they’ve come back and they’ve
Informed us that uh either it’s uh it’s scheduled or um they can’t see a problem well that’s Matthew emson thanks Matthew we’ll have more of your nominations later but in the meantime our correspondent Ben Godfrey has been to South Staffordshire to look at the state of the roads
There John iris’s bik rides have become slaloms we’re right on the border here of staford and shopshire new potholes pop up randomly all over the place this morning sharp Frost has sharpened his concentration because staying safe safe is becoming harder when you’re cycling around Staffordshire how dangerous is it life-threateningly dangerous for a
Cyclist it is for a car driver they’re going to damage a wheel or damage their car Stafford Sher seemed to have turned a blind eye unfortunately on the potholes that are on the road I know that resources are limited and funding is limited but you know this this is a serious
Problem this is just outside Echo Shore and as hgvs navigate through country roads between Newcastle underline and T our viewers say this area is particularly bad and they accuse highways teams of not measuring up this to my knowledge has been here about three months yeah how deep is it it’s um
80 millim deep at that point Staffordshire County Council responded to Stuart perin’s pothole report in December by telling him it will be repaired but it’s not an urgent priority if anybody hit it on a motorcycle or a pedal cycle then uh I dread to think of the consequences north of osore between
Mil me and coats Heath uh attempts have been made to repair it but it’s just simple patching and that just does not work staffer County Council incidentally says over the last year or so it’s repaired more than 16,000 potholes but clearly some would say there’s more to
Do but the authority also says it’s spending 30 million over the next two years to keep highways under good repair meanwhile outside the Village of Church Eaton what an ABS monster you’ll need a long tape measure for this one the average cost to the motorist of a PO or
Repair is said to be between 250 and 300 so on this particular Tire obviously the customer was driving along and obviously gone down a horrible potto which is very rough and sharp on the edges and it’s actually pierced the tire in two places as you can see in there
That we have gone all the way through that’s gone through yeah and that’s where all the air escapes through the tire we actually had one of our service fans that went down a pothole the other day and it absolutely um boss the wheel completely and we’ve just had to pay 60
To get the wheel refurbished and obviously a new tire so don’t worry it doesn’t just happen to customers it happens TOS as well some might call it the bottomless pit because the local government Association reckons there’s a backlog for pole repairs in this country of 144 billion P Ben Godfrey BBC M today
Staffordshire well as you heard in Ben’s report there last year staffire highways filled in more than 16,000 potholes well above the national average of 11,000 that most local authorities achieve and more than they fill themselves in 2022 the Department’s also using AI technology to identify and categorize
Pool for repair no one from the County Council was available to talk to us today although the deputy leader conservative councelor Philip White did give an interview to Kath stesin on BBC WM he told her that as roads have a 20-year lifespan span it’s hard work
Keeping on top of the problem but it would like to do more more investment from government so that we can do more sooner would be really welcome we’re really aware that Council taxpayers um don’t see most of the money that they pay because it goes to caring for
Vulnerable people you’ve got potholes on the route that you drive regularly you want them fixed now you don’t want to have to wait for it and the local Authority currently spends around 80 million a year on road repairs that’s set to increase by 50 million over the next three years mainly
For bigger resurfacing projects what we want to do is more more complete reconstructions of roads where they need it which is very expensive um and more um more work like this where we’re repairing a road comprehensively and then putting a new Top Road surface on it which gives it about 10 years of
Additional lifespan it’s much better value for money and it’s much better for local residents well thanks to all of you who got in touch with us on the subject shaar will have more of your comments later on in the program don’t forget we’re always Keen to hear your story so
Do get in touch in the usual Ways Un He I am quite You He A

'ey up Greg π
The council must employee blind people to look at potential holes π€£π€£π€£π€£ if they canβt see a problem
good job
look at you well done keep up the great vids!
What a star well done.
Gdb hints the big time β€οΈ
You deserve it Greg π
The main problem is that potholes usually just get patched, (filled in with deferred set tarmac.) This leads to a string of adjacent repairs and many visits to the same location. Ideally the material around a pothole should be cut back and down to a good depth, repaired and sealed at the edge. You then have a block of tarmac that will last for years not weeks.
Great video.
BUT it's about time the "repairs " are done properly!
Gets me they have got jcb new machines not seen any of them yet π€£π€£π€£
Solid appearance, but the hatchet job editing they did was horrendous! (but also expected from Midlands today)
The snipe from the conservative councillor about looking after people was right on the party line of not caring about people; looking after the roads is an expensive game and doing suitable repairs does save money, but so would reducing traffic by building proper infrastructure projects.
All the county council's and local city council's are like the same they would rather pass the book about the road which have huge pit holds and which you can't miss hitting can't these council's stop the huge hgv lories and trucks from coming through some of the smaller villages and the main city centres and keep them on the motorways this would stop our roads from braking open these council's would rather spend the road Minnie's on bringing in the migrants instead of what needs doing this is true look at Kingston upon Hull we have roads that need closing but the council's just tell contractors to just make good patch up the holes with liquid tar which soon brakes back open just like in safe railway bridges which are starting to break away from the walls due to all of the heavy buses and lorries and trucks and coaches and the military from leconfield transport
The Globalist WEF, want most of us off the roads, it's all part of the BS climate agenda.Pot holes are destroying car suspension, track rod ends, MacPherson struts, steering racks/boxes etc, making motoring excessively expensive.
Hats off to you mate the professionalism and maturity you showed in that mway job let alone patience was amazing.
Nice to see 76yrs old Nick Owen (from breakfast TV-am fame) still has a job as a news presenter
Why are deleting my messages mate?
My housing estate don't have any pot holes but the new built housing estate next door to my estate potholes and potholes been there for about 6+ month's the whole layer of concrete is actually missing that needs to be filled in and they aren't doing nothing they pretty much built up all the homes Construction traffic doesn't need to drive through there anymore and it's just left like that.
If the government as a whole spent the taxes gained from motorists we would have nice roads. I like to remind my local council that once a hazard is reported they become responsible for any issues from that time and I will raise peoples awareness of this.
One of the quickest way of getting repairs done was one used by a chap using the name Wanksy, he would paint a large dick and nads around potholes, they were repaired in quick time. I wonder what would happen if suddenly there were another 1,600+ wanksys suddenly took to the road?
While driving to visit my sister in Gloucestershire I noticed that potholes in an A road had a white line painted around them. Now my sister has been mouning for ages about potholes after ruining a week-old tyre. I gave her the good news the council have marked the holes I presumed for repair. No, she said that's so motorist can see them.

well done, the BBC is a great tv show
Soi Pothole
Great channel but please reduce the intro section it's a bit ott.
Fortunately the council have managed to close off a large part of Stafford to build a bike lane outside Sainsburyβs! What a waste of time money and effort that could be used to make roads safe for cyclists and motor vehicles by properly repairing pot holes.
If they want to free up funds stop virtue signalling net zero projects, get rid of the all the people employed in Equality Diversity and Inclusion 90% of HR people.
Get the folk from the job center out there and pay them properly
They patch up potholes poorly, bodge is their forte. There's a strip of holes bear me & they patch them up…..like 10 patches in 20 meters, rather that dig up the 10m stretch to do a proper job. Come next year those holes will return & they pride themselves with "We donne 40,000 potholes. Same stretch of road approx 150m had over 40 patched up. Clowns.
Another great video bro keep them coming please.
Pot holes are an absolute nightmare
Oooooooooh dear
Nice vans
Greg the marketing man π€ͺπͺ
The only time I've seen a pothole repair done properly was at a retail car park… only because it was private land.
That Iveco gas got some serious lift on it! And nice chunk of advertising for the channel and the work in general πͺπͺ
No wayyyy, made it on the news ππ big screen time, yessirr
Them roads are nothing compared to where I live
Can you hold the council liable for repairs to your car?
Government just put all money in pockets.
