Hi there!
I’ve been trying to learn how to ride a bike since I was 12 (25 now) and I haven’t been able to. I either fall off or I get too nervous that I forget how to brake safely and end up hurting myself. I’ve always wanted a bike, but I think a tricycle is the safest smartest move for me.
I was told two things today while bike shopping. One guy told me a 7 speed on a trike isn’t necessary because it won’t go fast enough to matter and it’ll just cost me more in maintenance in the long run. Another told me the 7 speed would be best because there are some slight differences in elevation where we live and I’d want to go faster while riding on the road. If it matters, I don’t have any experience using different gears on a bike.
I live in Norfolk VA if that matters any. I’d mostly be using it to ride to work which is about 4 mins away by bike, with protected bike lanes. I’d also use it to go to the shops near me which are about 4 mins away by bike, but have no protected bike lanes.
The tike I’m looking into buying is this [one](https://sun.bike/collections/traditional-adult-trikes/products/traditional-24-unisex-12862). I understand that trikes also have balance issues, but I test rode one today and I’m pretty confident I wouldn’t have much of an issue as long as I practice turning and riding at faster speeds. Though I’m open to hearing opposing thoughts or experiences.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight!
