“A girl. A bicycle. – & a world to explore
A sturdy bicycle and a stubborn mind. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make dreams come true. I’m Fredrika from Sweden. 2.5 years ago I kicked off this solo bicycle journey around the world and let me tell you – it’s been quite a ride. Best part? The biggest adventure is yet to come. Welcome!”
I met Fredrika in the south of Spain and sat down with her for an interview. She is truly an amazing human being, not just because of her bike ride around the world, but because of her character. She probably asked me more questions about my adventures than I did about hers. If you ever get the opportunity to meet her in person, DO IT!

My name is Radhika aghhhhhh I’m from Sweden 26 years old and I’m riding my bicycle around the world My first trip on a bicycle was a three-month journey across Europe and actually at the ends of this one was when I first started playing with the idea to to go further and to go somewhere where I really didn’t know what to expect you can get violence from
Northern Sweden where I’m from is to ride towards Asia and for this my my first big ol’ of course was to go to Singapore and then I was already said so it’s just one at a time taking the Overall so far on my trip now we’re sitting in in the south of Spain I’ve I’ve covered 46,000 kilometers something like this if what happens between those kilometer is that that I’m writing about in my diary in that I’m I’m thinking about at night early on before I started I I started
This fundraiser for an organization called Action Aid they’re working working to secure the most basic human rights for women and girls around the world today we’ve raised more than half a million Swedish kronor which is fifty thousand something euros this was important to me before I started but now
It’s is really changed like along my trip this has become so much bigger than than it was before hands it’s the like my fundraiser is distance-based which means that even on a rainy day and even when when I’m having such a good time in
A place I I still have this pole to keep going and I think this is for me personally this has been maybe the biggest one biggest reason where to me actually keep keeping going slowly but surely for for all these years starting with doing my first big mountains in Tajikistan in the premier
Family range I was a bit scared going up to the high passes just how will my body actually react on in three four thousand metres altitude because I had never been near something like that before in the in South America my main focus was just getting as high as I could up
In the Andes and as far away as possible from everything just really going rural and going high and so it was in Peru I had my my highest passes on the bike which was I I think three times I was above 5,000 meters of altitude the bike is this early long-haul trucker
It’s a classic in the bike touring world it’s changing a lot with different seasons and depending on where I am so at the moment in the south of Spain I’ve been going and coming from Africa so I’m not carrying too much too much winter stuff or anything like that this
Is my my home with the of course I had a tent the matter is the sleeping bag everything in here I have a lot of stuff from sea to summit which is really a favorite fun favourite brand for me like anything from from these dry bags to
Mattresses to sleeping bag seats if I can get it from them I usually do when you start a trip like this you’re really cautious with weights and what to bring and you’re not really not overdoing it at all then in reality when you start you realize that you don’t need you
Don’t even need half the stuff you brought I don’t want to wear one pair of socks too much but then I’m if there is a sale on like peanuts I’m getting two kilos so with obstacles I think you can I mean you can always talk about the
Heat in the generator like really cold camp nights and some in some mountain range or some intense meetings with people that maybe you would like to not have to experience but overall the the the biggest hurdle or the biggest obstacle draft that anyone has to overcome I think to when doing something
Like this is to actually take that first step to really like make let something go from being a dream to actually making it a plan and then and then start all of those things that are in our mind when you actually put them to the test in
Reality there it’s not it’s not as bad as as maybe your your mind is is imagining things to be and yeah so most difficult thing after almost three years now is definitely day one and actually starting what these years have taught me a lot I think and what what I’m really
Grateful for is just actually being able to see what this world and what people are actually about and one thing that’s difficult for me is that I started this as a 23 year old girl in Sweden that hadn’t seen much of the world and now I’m sitting here on my way back after
After seeing quite a bit of it it’s always worth saying and normally usually almost almost always things actually work out and when they don’t you get a good story to tell don’t over panic don’t overdo it don’t think too much just try and see what happens

Maybe the worst advice is "Just get out there". There is a lot of gear testing and planning before you head out of a longer trip.
I commend you for not letting the male gender discourage you from your dream of riding around the world. There are still too many men who discourage women from pursuing their dreams as well as general society if it isn't the norm of pursuing a goal for a female. Kudos and hope you continue to adventure around the world on your bike. There are many lessons to learn while doing so. 🙂
Hi Fredrika. Maybe once I'll make such a long bicycle ride too. Three years ago, after my husband died, I decided to re-start bicycle touring and camping (like I did when I was young). Now I make trips of some weeks. If everything goes well the trips will become longer and over longer distances. Than at my retirement age (I'm 63 now) I can tour through Europe for some months.
