In 1885, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach tested their first gasoline-powered motorcycle, the Daimler Reitwagen, on a public road near Stuttgart, Germany.
This was the first time a motorcycle was driven on a public road. The Reitwagen had a wooden frame, a single-cylinder engine, a rear-wheel drive system, and a simple handlebar for steering.
It reached a top speed of 10 miles per hour.
