Hello music lovers and welcome back to the Woodshed boy last week was a hot one it was scalding the guitar Community a lot of you guys were super awesome but some of you guys were super not awesome and I made a rant about it and that rant

Went kind of viral it was on all the uh all the social media channels and all my YouTube channel and stuff and man I I appreciate all the messages that that uh you guys sent me about it if you don’t know what happened there was a performance on Howard Stern with uh

Sammi Hagar and Michael Anthony and uh John Bonham’s son Jason bonam on the drums and Joe Satriani on guitar and I thought it was cool I mean I thought it was cool they just went in the studio Howard Stern’s place and just started you know jamming tunes that they hadn’t

Had any rehearsal on but man some of the uh some of the guitar communities Facebook forums guitar pages and things like that uh there was a lot of negative backlash and uh you know sometimes Van Halen fans can be the worst like I love Van Halen I mean this that’s Holy Ground

To me like Eddie Van Halen’s the greatest rock guitar player to ever live that’s how I feel about it but uh I also think that that music should should live on and keep being played now I love what Wolfie is doing because Wolfie is like

I’m not g to just go out and play Panama every night and try to you know do my dad’s Legacy thing I I I love I love his approach I mean he’s he’s been very open about losing his dad I mean I lost my dad about the same time uh I know that

Pain and and to all of us Eddie Van Halen is you know the greatest rock guitar player but to Wolfie it’s his dad and I love that Wolfie such a complete well-rounded musician I went to see him when he played in Knoxville his Show’s incredible um his he’s just awesome he’s

Writing his own music making his own statement doing his own thing but with that said I mean how many could you imagine going to a bar and hearing a cover band and them not playing a Van Halen song it’s like man that music’s got to got to keep keep being alive like

Led Zeppelin songs or Beatles songs or whatever right and Sammy and Michael Anthony are going to go out and they’re going to play a collection of different bands uh I’m sure they’ll probably dip into the you know the the the Sami Hagar stuff or montros or whatever uh chicken

Foot you know but they’re going to play a lot of the van Hagar of stuff I think that’s cool go play it you know you you sang On It Go play it um I like that it’s not being called Van Halen because it’s not you can’t have Van Halen

Without Ed so you can name the band you know Sami Hagar solo I would expect to hear hear it you can call it whatever you want and they’re going to play a bunch of Van Hagar teams and I think that’s cool the backlash and the

Negativity and you know in my rant I I said it the best I ever could in a freaking parking lot the backlash of the negativity uh really got bad to me when content creators started almost making Satriani a meme like the thing that really got bad to me was seeing uh Tik

Tok videos or Instagram videos and it would be like somebody had chosen a thumbnail of satch on that performance and then they had a clip of him playing Main Street and then they played it perfectly in their studio right like or in their in their home on take 134 after

Working on it for freaking 10 years or whatever that got bad to me because now you’re you’re now you’re telling the world that you’re better than Satriani that’s that’s not cool either because satriani’s Holy Ground I mean this guy had a career that every guitarist would

Would dream of and and he’s written some of the most iconic instrumental music of all time and he’s he’s been an instructor and a teacher to guys like Steve V it’s like this is a living legend don’t get it twisted right so I made this huge rant about it and then I

Realized a couple of days later that I I was like man I’ve gotta I’ve got to work on Mean Street I’ve never properly like sat down to do it and uh I was like I love this music and I don’t want to just be a guy that that talks I want to put

My money where my mouth is so I was like man I got to learn how to you know attempt to play this right like we can all kick off you really got me going but like some of these harder ones it’s like it’s fun to stick your stick your toe in

The deep end of the swimming pool so to speak so I reached out to my friend Cammy Brown who is a monster guitar player especially when it comes to Van Halen stuff like he smashes so check out Cammy Brown and his channel I’ve seen him play the intro to Mean Street uh

Many times and he he he also incorporates all the things that Ed would do on like live without an ed or something these live performance videos and he’s awesome so first of all check out Cammy playing Main Street Yeah that’s sick I mean he he’s got it doing its thing so I asked Cammy I said hey man would you be interested in coming on the Woodshed Channel and uh breaking down that that really iconic slap tap Funk drum thing and uh teach it to us and share it with the world

Because again with the the idea of keeping the mu music alive I want to I want to not only just play it or attempt to play it like I can’t I’m not Van Halen right nobody is but like I I’d like to share it and I’d love to have

Instead of me trying to learn it in a day and then teach it on the channel Camy smashes it so not only am I going to learn it you’re going to learn it so thanks to Cammy Brown and with that let’s jump over to Cammy and let’s check

Out the interview with him it’s going to be sick roll It ladies and gentlemen coming all the way to you from my Great Britain courtesy of the internet my good friend Cammy Brown if you haven’t seen him on Instagram he’s a monster he’s always posted Clips uh ranging from his own stuff to vanan Halen everything in between Cammy thanks for joining us here

In the Woodshed to shed some light on the mystery that is main streets well thanks for having me man and I’ll try and do my best so um this is an interesting piece right because it starts with the fade in and I want to talk about a couple of

Different aspects of it uh how he played it live my first time hearing this intro was actually uh when I saw the live right here right now DVD uh in in his 316 solo I didn’t realize that this was an intro to an old Van Halen song until

I got into the library that was my first experience with Van Halen was the live right here right now and um obviously that’s different than the live without a net and then probably every live version he’s got things that he likes to do that that are like quintessential and then he

Likes to add in different flavors so let’s talk about the album version first uh that’s that’s uh like the quintessential DLR version and uh let’s break down the main tapping technique so it starts with the fade in is another thing that you guys need to know if you’re looking for references on Ed

Playing it it’s always cool to watch him play it live because there’s no fade in and he just kind of starts into the pattern so Cammy I’m going to turn the car over to you talk about this thing for a minute so I’ve been listening to over the last couple

Days uh since we had originally spoke about doing this man and um the way the fade in works it’s really difficult to hear the way that he kind of starts it um but I’ve watched multiple live videos uh there’s one from lgo in 1982 uh and also the the way I learned this

Originally was from watching live without a net from like the new show um so I think I mean there’s probably like Van Helen guys out there that’ll be like nope wrong but there’s uh I think this is the way he starts it man um so would

You like me just to get straight into it or get straight into this thing yeah awesome so first little piece of advice straight off the Batman is not to have your volume the whole way up uh you kind of want it around I mean I like it

Around about seven or eight cuz it kind of gives it more like it kind of gives it a little more for like a percussive sound that way like say you’ve got like a like a super high gain amp you want your volume down even further but if

You’re using like a sort of traditional you know Plexi style thing then that’s that’s seems to be the best for it man cuz those amps were like super clean even though they’re distorted they’re like clean I don’t know how to describe it man yeah yeah yeah there’s that

There’s that natural um the natural tone of the guitar kind of cutting through with the the gain yeah at the same time right okay so let’s start into this pattern I’ve watched um since I reached out to you I watched other dudes do it and everybody’s kind of got a take on it

And I think it’s important to note that none of us are Ed and that’s the whole reason we’re making this video right it’s like nobody’s Ed but I don’t think that means that people shouldn’t try to uh enjoy his music and learn it and like you know just celebrate it more than

Anything right like keep it alive and all of us keep playing it just like any other genre any other AR if you were to like play Edie on H and stuff spot on Eddie would probably not like that whereas if you were kind of throw your

Own twist into it then I think I think if Eddie was still here he probably respect you more for doing your own thing with it you know yeah that that seems to be the case right individuality was always super important to him so yeah so now let’s talk about the pattern

Because you and I briefly mentioned it in the thing and I said no no no let’s not get too far into it until we start filming so um it starts with the first finger on the tap right right I’m going to let you drive so on the 12th fret uh

There’s basically like three elements to this uh so the three elements for the sake of this video I guess we’ll say uh right with your index finger on the 12th fret sort high and B string um this will be left which is kind of just like your

Mutant thing but that also is like a kind of works like a slap like if you’ve ever paid ATT to slap base guys are always they’ve always got their left hand going and then I’ll just call this thumb for I like that so we got right

Left thumb yeah right left thumb so I have written down here after our conversation the other night because one of these things about this riff is that it’s like it’s it’s really see once you’ve got it up to speed it’s like really confusing to like slow it down again you

Know so that’s where I was having like the trouble here but I’ve written down so the first pattern I’ll play it first and then I’ll I’ll play it slow first then I’ll then I’ll show you so okay I’ll explain it uh so it goes so that’s that’s part one that’s part

One yeah so I mean it’s really like I said it’s really difficult to hear exactly what he does at the very start of the original track um but this is what I think he’s doing anyway uh so you go right on the 12 thumb sorry I’ll start again right left

Th okay so you got this then you go right left thumb left right again so so it will sound like this does that make sense get more that exactly so then you basically just repeat the the like the start of that again um but the second time you

Play it you you hit the thumb twice so okay so play it all the way through so all the way through it would go yep okay that’s part one right let me get my volume back right I had It ah okay all right so right right left thumb left right left thumb thumb yep that’s it so that’s basically that first part done that’s out of the way um so the second part is where it gets like a little bit confusing when you describe it slowly

But when you play it up to speed it makes total sense um so that so I’ll play it I’ll play the first part and then I’ll play the second part that’s that’s kind of where there’s like a little turn around um like there’s a skip where actually it feels

Like feels like there should be another slap right there there and there’s not exactly and that’s I think that’s kind of how it sort of continues to like have that sort of like circular kind of rmic pattern sort of thing kind of like a drummer would have yeah so I’m probably

Not explaining this like the technical way man because I’m not very good at that kind of thing but no it’s like to me it makes total sense so it’s like when you’re thinking of it you got to remember that it doesn’t it doesn’t it’s not an even cycle I think that’s a

Really important aspect to this thing and if I’m translating what you got correctly it should be And you leave out the Slap ah right like that that kind of is close I I’ve never really it’s what’s funny about being like Mega Van Halen fan than I am I’ve never really deep dived into this thing so this this has been like a learning experience for me to kind of

Like get in this thing and and listen to it and and actually put my hands on it for real so yeah thinking of it in two sections like that’s section one get that to where that feels good and the big thing that I noticed that not a lot of guys talk about is

That that thing has a little bit of that harmonic in there it’s not you know it’s not just like a Fred note there’s like a little bit of that harmonic that makes it sound uh like vibrant you know versus like you hear the other harmonics across the entire fretboard if you get

In that right spot right over that 12th fret you get a little bit of that open octave harmonic with it right and the other one is like really getting that that that front of it to sit underneath the knuckle like where you can grab both strings that

Those are two big elements that I think really make it work is like grabbing the double stop Right and that right there is that back turnaround that you’re talking about where it actually goes thumb first so walk us through it one more time as you do it so I’ll play it slowly it goes oh sorry there we go hold on Okay so like you said you missed that I keep want to call the slap you missed that left um one other little thing I forgot to mention earlier man is um I’ve taught a couple guys this before and one of the things that they were doing is holding

Down quite hard yeah yeah yeah it’s not it’s just lightly muting just light muting it you kind of just want that kind of St when you when you go for it so it’s like he’s not actually holding down a note otherwise it would it would kind of sound like that and sound pretty

Horrible yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah right so it’s just getting that thing muted out yeah one more thing that I learned from when I first started learning this is uh you don’t want to like slip the high off off the off you push it off like grabbing it pushing it

Off yeah when I first learned this I was I did that all the time and it used to frustrate me so much it’s kind of light on this hand but like you said earlier you know you want to hit with this part of your finger as

Opposed to like the tip your finger like you normally L when you were tapping or whatever yeah yeah so that that’s just a couple little things I forgot to mention at the start there man which I probably should have mentioned no it’s good it’s good so let’s walk all the way through

The cycle um I’m terrible and you’ll hear me do it terrible and then cam will do it and it’ll be awesome so the cycle is so here we go right something like that so close like that that’s it that’s it you’ve got a D started close so you you you mentioned

This the other day when we were talking about you’re like the way you learned it was you were like walking around the house or maybe playing video games and you’re always playing the pattern like drumming it on the table drumming it on your legs and kind of getting it under

Your hands right it was the definitely the best way to get it down because it’s just you constantly keep that rhythm in your you know like I said playing video games every time I got like you know taken out on the game i’ I’d sit and you

Know just practice that until until I was back and it really helps man it’s kind of like uh probably exactly what a drummer would do with like drum patterns you know that’s kind of I look at this kind of thing it’s totally that thing it’s totally the drum slap Bas thing

Applied to the guitar mutated with like Ed’s magic right so uh here let’s get into some fun stuff here the in the live versions he does things that are different from the album version on that next part right because he NE they never really go into Mean Streets when he

Plays it live um and the Mean Streets thing has a I I listen to it a little bit I don’t have it down p i want you to correct me if I’m wrong but it’s got this thing that’s [Applause] U right it’s got th that section right so [Applause] [Applause] and this section is interesting because it’s uh you’re playing everything off of this the these these harmonics right here just like you’re doing with your thumb right and so the album version there’s a million lessons probably everywhere but this is our our lesson on

It um you’re kind of tapping it and then hammering on with your first finger like that right so do you know that part do you know that part um so I used to know this part I’m not 100% like up on it nowadays man because I’m more when I

Play this I’m more so just do like the fun live stuff that we’re going to let’s talk about the fun live part and then we could come back to that another Point talk about the live things that he would interject because you started doing this

Um when we were hanging out and it just I was like dude that’s totally the live without a net thing so give us a couple of the things that he does in between the slack perfect so he would go one of the ones that he he always seemed to do back in

The 80s was he would go um like that kind of thing okay so slow that down and tell us what’s going on with that thing so obviously it’s it’s kind of like if anybody’s listening to Judgment Day it’s kind of that thing where you’re using the Two Fingers um

But instead of being on the A and the D string both hands are on the the D and the the B string um so what you do is you start with your right hand on the 12th D&B a and b as in d as in dog yeah

Yeah sorry about the they no like no it’s all good I think this video will be great because your accent’s super thick and my accent’s super thick so people won’t know what we’re saying the entire video it’ll be great so like when you’re doing it you’re starting on the 12th

Fret kind of just playing the B string and the D string that sound right there that you’ve got your uh your left hand on the D and the B string on the seventh thre so it kind of looks like a G chord and a d chord yeah pretty much

Man yeah so what you do is you uh you tap first and then you slide up with the left hand uh so like that and you go into e you’re going you’re going to stop it when you get to e right um so so once you get

Here the really cool I’ll show you really slow so once you get to here you move both hands then so you would go okay okay so it’s like that and then on the Largo show I don’t know if you’ve seen that solo man I’ll be able to send you a link

To that one but uh it’s from 1982 I think um it kind of does like a little slide back and it just it just gives it so much like Vibe uh you know okay okay okay okay so one more time I got to go now what’s the what’s the back what’s

The back of it this is just sliding back to the 14th fret and then just take it off while Your that’s really hard to do yeah it’s like awkward it’s like I’ve got no calluses on my right hand to do to do that right that’s really great it’s really really awesome so now do this slap into how he does that Lit to show the folks how they GL they glue

Together there we Go and then he would do like the cool stuff where he would go at you okay so show the people that this is this is a very classic one um for a lot of you intermediate players or Advanced players you’re going to know exactly what’s going on here but if you’re

Beginner or this is all new stuff or maybe you grew up playing jazz and you remember playing Van Halen these are kind of some of the fun sound effect type things that Ed would do so walk us through the classic you know roll with the harmonic thing they could really

It’s such a cool lick and it’s so easy you know so it’s so easy you’re kind of just um you can do in that kind of thing you know four two zero uh you just take this part of your hand I sometimes take this part just really depends but like if you

Take like you know just anywhere from here on your hand don’t you can do it with this side too I’ve seen guys do it like yeah yeah yeah actually I think I’ve seen Joe Satriani do it with like one Joe does it like that right yeah yeah

Yeah like that kind of thing um and then you can go totally over the top and do the Steve V thing with your tongue oh yeah yeah yeah so 80s but uh yeah all you do is you just you rest your hand the same kind of idea the same Principle

As how you’re just muting the strings here you just basically do that with this don’t push them too hard and then whilst you’re like that let the harmonics ping out so it would do that basically it’s really important this is an interjection I don’t want to cut you off but it’s

Really important to note you cannot use too much gain if you have too much Distortion this stuff won’t sound percussive if you notice cammy’s it sounds like it’s got that really percussive kind of thing if you have too much gain like if you’ve got this diesel

Back here cranked to 100 it’s you’re not going to get that percussion so it’s really important if you if you’re not getting this stuff to pop out maybe just dial the Distortion back a little bit yeah I mean I’m I’m running through the sl68 right now and uh you know the

Volume obviously that doesn’t have like the game knob it’s just the volume but the volume on mine is on eight at the moment so it’s just it’s just like just enough game yeah does yours have the master volume on your sl68 it does yeah yeah on the uh I’ve got the master

Volume on like two but that’s because if I had it any louder the neighbors would kill me well you’re through the room right um and you and you don’t need to jump the sl68 to get it to do the Van Halen thing uh no I’m just going I’ve

Always done that even with Marshalls I’ve always just preferred going straight into the into the first input top left and that gets it done right although I found I think Pete Thor actually mentioned this in a video sorry for the DI version wi but uh no no no

The the second volume even if it’s even if you not jumped the amp if you turn the second volume up it does the thing even though it’s not like technically engaged it definitely does like something it for sure does and that’s like the case with my old one you know

I’ve got this old 1969 that I got from EJ it’s the same thing I’ll run into the top left but I’ll use the second knob to kind of voice it because the second knob if you’re going for that thick EJ almost Steve Morse you all those like thick

Dark tones that second volume like brings that voice in totally I mean i’ I’ve got M’s so the second volume on mine’s just set at 3:00 um yeah it just it just gives it that like a little bit more body to it and you know especially for something like Mean Street where

You’re wanting that kind of percussive Bassy feel yeah but I mean you can also do that you know I do I like doing on G string here but you can do it on the D or the just just but any do all kinds of crazy stuff he would do that um you know

I’ve seen videos of him like doing the Main Street tapping thing and then like whacking his pickup and just just to get like crazy noises out of his guitar because that was like his whole thing um yeah but getting back to the main street thing my my favorite way of playing this

Myself is playing like the sort of live version um because it’s just a little bit more involved and you can know you can do the slide thing that that we were just talking about or or that kind of thing you know it just it just makes it

A little bit more fun and cool just a little bit more evh yeah for sure so let’s review here um when you’re playing it couple of the pointers that I want to just take home here is you got to grab two strings on

The B and E you got to make sure not to push that e off you got to be study down here you don’t want to be pressing it not that right and so if you take the volume back just a little bit do another one he gave us and then making sure

That’s a harmonic right and so our pattern is right all right so give it to us one more time and put in the the live stuff Awesome Dude you’re such a ripper you sound so good on that stuff man thanks for being on here and uh and teaching this stuff not just to everybody else but to me too and and and uh kind of making sure we’ve all got it right here uh I think it’s

Really important in in this day and age you know to remember this is kind of tying back to the reason this video is a thing uh when when you see a guy like satch go on the Howard Stern Show and he’s just called out a thin air to play

Something like this I mean that’d be like if you don’t know but you’ve heard or maybe years ago played like Cliffs of do or something and like hey man do the intro to Cliffs of over you’re like what I can’t just do that on the spot right

And then so we saw all these guys making these videos and it kind of turned satch into a you know starting to turn him into a meme for certain people’s channels and that’s when it got bad to us and Cammy and I talked about it and

Uh it was a thing where Cammy you actually put out a video and then pulled it you were like immediately this is not the right thing right you want to tell us about that well I posted a video I watched um Howard Stern Show and uh I

Seen Joe Satriani say about how it’s impossible to play Main Street and I was like well I can play that and I had a video the video that I actually posted with the Satriani video was one that I filmed um actually almost three years ago to the

Day after Eddie died I went through like a massive phase of just playing nothing but Van Halen you know right yeah we all did right like we all did so I like I put those two videos together you know the SAT video from Howard Stern and myself playing Mean Street and I thought

It would be you know just a bit of a joke I posted on Instagram like um I can’t remember exactly what the caption was but it was like love you really such or something like that you know just like a just a joke and you said the

Comments is what got bad to you when people started I started seeing people like taking taking the video out of context and sort of kind of putting satch on blast and I was like well hang on a minute you know like he’s one of my favorite guitar players you know like uh

So I didn’t didn’t really want to be a part of that so I just removed the video after that you know right and I think it’s cool um to you know it’s not a thing that guys can’t play yeah like I’ve seen a bunch of people play main

Streets it’s not something that like is inhuman like an Oscar Peterson Solo or something played on guitar like it’s like I’ve seen guys play mean streets and sound awesome and sound really awesome just like the record and I thought if you have that skill set and

This type of situation happens in a you know social context right and it becomes this thing that people are talking about I think I think it’s really cool to like take a second step back and realize hey man maybe I should just share how to do

It versus trying to punch up and bring satch down and and humanize him or whatever you want to call it like man it’s like we got to remember it’s it’s Joe Satriani like you said it’s like everybody’s favorite guitar player you know what I mean it’s like you can’t I

Mean one of the things that a lot of people are missing is um you know even speaking for myself I would not want to be in such Jo Satriani shoes for all the money in the world for you know playing Edan Hill and stuff um because that’s like a massive responsibility you know

Uh and me personally I I couldn’t do that you know um yeah same same you know I uh I I thought about this quite a bit you know um all week long and I think one of the things that Steve Vine did that made his tenure with David Lee Roth

So special is he didn’t sound like Van Halen yeah at all like it was like he did his own thing and you sent me we were talking about it and you sent me Jason Becker playing the intro to hoer teacher yeah and Jason was like sweeping

It so if anyone wants to see that what’s the video that it’s you got to search to get it what is it uh if you just type in Jason Becker Hot for Teacher demo it will come up it was um originally from when David Le Roth was looking for a

Guitar player Mike vanney uh he asked Jason to record H for teacher and it was done on like a little you know track thing in his hotel room or something uh he recorded it sent it to Mike Varney and he sent it to Roth and that’s how he

Got the gig for Yeah by sweeping it not doing it like Van Halen Right like doing his own thing I think that’s the reason Steve you know was so great for that thing and I think that’s the context we all have to take with uh satch taking on

This mantle because people are like well why is Sach doing it and not insert other guy here right like everybody’s got their opinion on it and the reality is is like Sach has been in a van with Sammy and I imagine that they’re not just gonna play Van Halen Tunes they

Might play some mantros they might play some you know Hagar stuff chicken foot like whatever right yeah I think so man I think uh I think I think the whole show is is I think the biggest majority of it is going to be like the van Hill

And stuff but I think they’re definitely going to throw in uh you know songs from here and there and I think um I think there’s also going to be other guitar players joining and other sort of guest musicians just which would be awesome like that that would be the celebration

That I think we’ all want to see is just all these different dudes sitting in and doing it and you said it earlier and I’m just going to back it up I think the most important thing that makes it cool is satch is going to sound like satch

While playing Van Halen Tunes like we we don’t need a carbon copy up there doing it because there is no carbon copy right like nobody’s biggest takeaway here is nobody’s Ed so yeah Edd’s got some massive shoes to fill and I don’t think anybody will ever be able to do that but

That’s a good thing you know that’s what makes you know but I mean I post van haling videos all the time like you guys and stuff and we love the band but like I said I would never want to be in in such as uh position

Right now because I’d be better F sure man especially at like you know 3 or 4:00 in the morning for those that haven’t done those types of gigs I have with uh flats and and uh yeah your call time is at 2:45 in the morning and then

You get on a little shuttle to shuttle into the City and and you record it you know you know the crack of dawn that’s why everybody’s always wearing sunglasses on The Today Show or like whatever early morning thing it’s like everybody’s fried and you’re trying to

Like do the thing you typically do at 9:00 at night and you’re trying to do it at 5:30 in the morning it’s like dude the hands don’t you know it’s a whole it’s a whole thing but dude not to get off topic thank you for being on the

Channel and uh for sharing this wealth of information and if people want to check out all your stuff where do they go uh so if you just type in Cameron Brown guitar on Youtube it’ll come up uh but if you go on Instagram that’s the

Place where I post the most uh if you type in Kami bbe1 uh then you’ll find most likely I love it dude you smash it you you know everybody go check out his stuff subscribe to him he’s killer uh thanks for joining us thanks for having

Me man thanks for hanging out here in the Woodshed and thanks for Cammy for taking the time to teach us all how to kind of navigate Mean Streets I’m going to be practicing on it for sure I hope you guys are going to be practicing on

It too it seems like once you get it flowing that um it starts to feel kind of kind of normal you know it’s just that thing of getting under your hands um if you’re interested in uh some of the lessons that I offer maybe taking private one-on ones or taking part in

Our Woodshed community and our our weekly live master classes go to patreon.com andwood music and uh even for five bucks over there you get access to all the videos there’s over 600 posts on that thing it just rolls um I’m constantly uploading so patreon.com andwood music for that uh if

You’re interested in the Woodshed guitar experience next year it’s going to be amazing I’m going to announce on this video first we’ve got Steve Morris coming holy crap we’re talking high tension wires Dixie drags he’s going to be there we’ve already sold 40 of the

100 slots so we’ve only got 60 left if you’re interested go to Woodshed guar experience.com and uh get signed up you don’t have to pay all at once you can make your payments throughout the year all that kind of good stuff uh Woodshed guitar experience.com

  1. I think Wolfgang Van Halen gave up the ‘Wolfiie’ moniker quite a few years ago. As an adult, he goes by ‘Wolf.’ I think Valerie still calls him ‘Wolfie’ from time to time, but then moms can be that way. LoL

  2. Oh I’m sure Edward was honored by so many people wanting to learn to play like him. I have seen video of your guest playing Van Halen songs before and I was very very impressed with his playing. His technique is so clean and tight, and he has a great ear.

  3. A lot of guys Satriani’s age learned every Van Halen album as they came out. I know several guitarists who know pretty much every Van Halen tune, but it has been so long since they played them regularly they just need to brush up a little.

  4. I'm a Knoxville TN native as well and so glad I found your YT channel. I've been neglecting my guitars unfortunately and stumbled upon some of your vids gives me a little kick in the rear that I needed to… Like.. HEYYYY!!!! PICK THAT GUITAR UP AND PLAY!!!!!
Thank you! I honestly appreciate it for sure man! Keep Rockin🤘 And so will I 👊

  5. I don't think I've ever heard more jabber in a guitar learning video then I have here. You lost me after the first 3 minutes. You should learn how to talk less and teach/play more. Boring, very very boring

  6. Loved this video Andy and Cameron is also a very cool fella with alot of humility about his playing. Your comment about both your accents made me smile, I'm from London but my surname is Scottish which is only relevant in that I'm guessing Cameron is from the Edinburgh area. If he had a thick Glasgow accent I would have trouble understanding him as well😊. Glasgow is a stone's throw from Edinburgh too. British accents eh!?. You're easy to understand btw and although I'm not sure I've watched your channel before, it popped up and I've now subscribed. All the best mate 👍.

  7. No one is excellent at someone else's excellence. Eddie has history in his pocket….and it's so well deserved. The day anyone can cop Eddie's feel is the day guitar loses it's appeal. It's all part of the magic we love.

  8. Joe was asked what was the most difficult Van Halen track to play. He said Mean Street, he attempted it without practicing. He didn’t nail it. That was a compliment to EVH!!! If he says it is difficult and plays it like it was nothing then that kind of discredits him saying it is difficult. Think about the accomplished player that Joe is.

  9. The key to getting the tone is not to have a lot of Fx crowding the tap/slap technique. Cranked Plexi or EVH 100S on the Blue Chaneel, volume is rolled off on the guitar to about 8-9 with a Seymour Duncan CC pickup or EVH pup. DCR 13.8 with A2 magnet. The CC pup gets that harmonic and the A2 is the butter behind it. Using an Axis (which I have one of those also) the pup is a little different, supposedly similar to the EB AT1 pup. Great vid! Thanks for sharing.

  10. I never understood why all of the alleged guitar players were bashing Satch anyway. Given how dysfunctional (Wolfgang's word not mine) the remainder of VH is and given that fact that Sammy, Dave, Al and Mike are in their 70's now or close to it, there is not much time left to have original or one time VH members to go and celebrate the music of EVH anyway. Yet Alex and DLR have done nothing until Sammy put in the work to do a small tour. Satch is brave for even wanting to do this as well. He got a good dose of what it is like to fill in for a legend when he took Blackmores place in Deep Purple.

It is one thing to do a 100 takes plus and put together a YouTube video and quite another to play songs live with a band and to play those songs on the road in front of real audiences.

  11. Love your Ron Fellows hat! Ron is one of the nicest, and best, drivers to come out of Canada… He was always one of my favorite Team Corvette drivers…

  12. Amen! We all love EVH! I did my own version of One Foot out the door and Sunday Afternoon in the Park! It’s not pretty but I felt it had Spirit plus we are keeping the dream alive. Loved your honesty 🎉

  13. Satch takes a back seat to no one… period! There is shit he does that kept EVH up at night… if Ed gave a shit… the thing is Ed went through periods he didn’t pick the guitar up he just didn’t give a shit… Satch is totally dedicated to the guitar and you can hear that love and dedication in his playing. Both are and were awesome guitar players their music will live on forever and thx Cam and Andy for help keeping it alive!

  14. Your synapsis was 100 percent on point.
I know a few tab guys ( nothing wrong with tab) that can play several difficult Van Halen songs 90 percent perfect.
These same guys dont even know the notes they're hitting.
Coundnt improvise over chords to save their life.
Cant believe anyone would question Satriani and Im a blues guy.

  15. I have always thought that Eddie and Alex had a little pow-wow when Eddie wrote the intro to Mean Streets.. there's this whole paradiddle thing going on at the beginning.

  16. Just gonna mention that i was tried to be scammed on Telegram on though your channel Andy, not sure how many others it has happened to , they were offering me a prize guitar and a Mac book . I blocked them- don't fall for this scam anyone else who this might happen to.

  17. I thought the. Van Hagar performance on the Howard Stern Show was awesome too! Haters go to HELL…. The music needs to continue to be played by the original surviving members!
And it’s their right to play any of it! 👍💯

  18. HONK HONK Andy & Crisp High Five to you for standing your ground on supporting Satch, Sammy, Wolfie and King Edward! Mean Street is a quintessential EVH signature, and Cammy nails that classic & breaks it down well. Always dig the way you honor the artists & music!

  19. It’s VERY percussive.. I’m sure Ed was probably a pretty decent drummer, after all, he did start with drums.. Along the that, when Ed picked up his guitar and slammed into that intro – first time – I’m guessing it just flowed out.. not a lot of thought, just Ed being Ed! Brilliant Genius Edward Van Halen! RIP EVH!!!

  20. Lol Man y'all talk too damn much 😅😅😅
Guy- I ain't got no calluses on my right hand!
Teach yourself how to play with your fingers on the acoustic and you'll toughen up the right which what i did!

  21. One thing the internet has taught me, is that there is so many f,ing big headed, know it. all critics. Here i am commenting without needing to be that negative asshole. 💯 takes in the comfort of your bedroom or living room where it can be edited isn't comparable
