Max Planck Law researchers in Freiburg, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Heidelberg describe what it’s like to live in Germany.

I think Heidelberg does not need any big  introduction. It is very romantic.  It is very beautiful. It is surrounded  by nature. It is a very small city,   very quiet city. And at the same  time it’s also a student city. And, of course, there’s also the proximity to big cities like Frankfurt or Paris or

Even Milano if you’re up for a  couple of hours of ride. I enjoy life in Frankfurt a lot. I think it’s  a beautiful city. You have different contrasts   between the old city and the new skyline  of the city. It’s lots of green areas,

Parks, you can ride your bike  and you can enjoy the city. I came to Germany without any previous  knowledge of German, me and my wife,   and Frankfurt is a global city where you can do  whatever you want speaking in English.

When I studied in Istanbul I liked being  close to the sea or close to the water,   and Hamburg is a city on the water too with  its Alster lake, with its river Elbe Also during the day I can take  a walk with a colleague of mine,

Discuss legal issues we have in  a peaceful atmosphere. I came to Germany just for the Max Planck.  I knew the reputation of Max Planck and I   thought it might be the best choice in order  to advance my career. But then with time I

Also sort of started falling in love with  Germany and in particular with Freiburg. I’ve been living for 10 years in Freiburg right  now. I became a German citizen and I find the   quality of life extremely high. It’s a city  that is especially careful at topics that are

Very dear to me such as environmental issues,  social rights, and now that I’ve gotten a new   job in Switzerland I can’t really get away from  Freiburg so I’m commuting every weekend back.
