These tires came stock on my Kona Rove which I bought used during the Pandemic.

They were comfortable but felt heavy and sluggish on my commute. i kept them but switched to WTB Horizons in the same size which are much faster like a gear or so faster. So I kept commuting as a 3 season commuter at latitude 52 with the Horizons.

Fast forward 3 years and an unusually warm and dry winter made me decide to try winter commuting. After all I am a cross country skier so cold doesn’t bother me. I knew the Horizons would be sketchy if there was snow or ice. Thought about going to studded tires but followed lots of reddit discussion and decided i don’t think i could stand the noise after biking amongst studded riders on my commute.

So I pulled out the Ventures again and i can say on packed snow, mixed ice/ pavement surface and snow on ice these things are amazing. The wide contact patch and the micro treading which give a high rolling resistance on dry pavement are just what the doctor ordered. I’ve been biking for a couple of weeks on these and my 1hr 15min commute is now running 1hr 25 min but i’m going intentionally slower by running in more of a spin mode so as to not unbalance the bike by grinding.
