Howy y’all fuzzy biker here at backer cycle in the mighty minopolis of Marne this is my very lucky day this is the fourth hot rod I’m riding today classic Hot Rod this is a 1968 BSA Thunderbolt 650 right there this is an absolutely gorgeous bike I’ve ridden Thunderbolts

Before but never 1968 just love the way it looks Thunderbolt means it has one carburator is one of the things I guess this one is electronic ignition air cooled of course push rides in the center of the engine no push Rod tubes that means they can’t leak cuz they’re

In the center you know one down three up I believe shifting I love the way these engines look they’re so contoured you know just gorgeous Speedo Drive in the rear spoke wheels dual leading shoe front brake look at that it’s got that really cool looking thing on the front there covered

Forks I love that tank I think they said that was New Old Stock so it’s an old stock tank but it’s a brand new one it’s never been on a bike yet a dry stump engine of course check that out check out that that’s just amazing absolutely

Amazing I’m looking for a tack drive but it doesn’t have a tack so I’m going to have to look a long time aren’t I just a beautiful beautiful machine my friends you know what it’s our lucky day let’s go take that hot rod for a ride

Wahoo same thing as before back to rules if I want to ride it I got to get it to run okay let’s see if old fuzzy biker can get this thing to start kickart only of course 5 4 3 2 1 well I’ve kicked lots of bikes today

But this is the first one to start on the first kick life is good now what did I say shifter one down three up look at that hot rod check that out that is a backer Works custom absolutely amazing we’ll see if we can take that one for a ride today

Yet yes one down three up wow this thing’s pretty darn smooth very nice actually surprising let’s try the brakes yes the brakes work even the front one works I like it we’ll just kind of baby this one around town this one is incredibly smooth it’s incredbly good running I

Can’t remember I think he said electronic ignition maybe on this one New Old Stock tank it went through the bike got it running right tuned her all up I like this one a lot I like this one an awful lot like I said I’ve ridden this is my fourth

Classic ride today today classic bike ride among other bikes and uh this is a real treat very smooth and easygoing bike incredible amount of torque you know there’s something to be said about the single carb engines the fueling seems to work not as explosive you know

A little better than the uh dual carb engines the Dual carb engines are faster you know they got more ump right away but I think these are smoother and I don’t know why that is but uh I experienced that I drove a friend 72 or three I think it

Was Thunderbolt BSA Thunderbolt And I put about 50 mil on that that was a single cart machine it was the same thing it just works so well you know what a nice machine fabulous fabulous I got to remember how the shifter works on these bikes not only are the right shift some were

On the you know some were opposite you know one up and three down one down three up this one’s right shift one down three up so we’re good to go here that transmission Works fabulously I mean it just slips right into gear Miga Miga muchu what a treat what a

Treat you know what when it warms up today’s the 23rd of December we’re having a warm day but when it really warms up this summer we’ll try to get a longer ride on these things look at those dogs over there watching us well let’s see how this thing

Turns look at that huh look at that like a champ like a champ this is a very smooth motorcycle I really like this one I like them all but this one’s just a little extra sparkly very nice it feels it handles good too you know like I said it’s got the uh drum

Brakes front and rear dual eading shoe brake on the front and it actually works I say it actually works because a lot of these old brakes the uh brakes even when they were new the brakes were uh by modern standards you know ippy at best it just has so much torque look at

Look at that I wonder how much that has to do with the uh smooth torque is what I should say I wonder how much that has to do with the single carb system I don’t know enough about motorcycles to understand why that would be

So why that would be so if you know Post in the comments below works very well very very nice motorcycle if youall are in the market for a newer used Royal infield Triumph for a classic British bike like this get yourself over to Baxter cycle in the mighty Metropolis of

Maria Iowa or go to Baxter cycle.com contact Randy or Jeremy or Mark those guys can help you out they’ve got parts accessories t-shirts boots gloves do dads you name it they got it they also have the largest British vintage bike part supply in North America if they don’t have it

You’re going to have a heck of a time finding it as my guess give those guys a call they uh they can help you out now it’s a beautiful day somewhere maybe not here it’s a beautiful day here because I’m on a classic British bike but uh I’m going to

Go put this hot rod away and I’m going to go hop on my hot rod and head home life is good R about half a dozen bikes today so I just cannot complain wooo hey hey look at that oh Man

  1. As far as the carb it's really simple physics. It's getting the same amount of air passing through at 2000 rpm as a dual carb is getting at 4000 rpm. It's also why the dual carbs perform better at the higher revs, but for just cruising around town that single carb will always be the smooth choice.
