I really need to do something about that hello everyone welcome back to the pursuit of health wealth and happiness my name is nay if you’re new I love watching Money videos and especially Money videos where people share how much they spend living in this area in this

Area or this country so I thought it would be fun if I broke down my numbers and share with you exactly how much I spend as a 30-year-old living in Bristol in the UK so at the time of writing this script the period I looked at was mid

August to Mid September I also didn’t want to be biased and start changing my behavior and my spending so when I thought of the video there and then I just took took out my phone and looked at my account and was just totally honest it wasn’t fun to do this and it’s

Not what I thought I spend in a 4-week period if you’re new to my channel my channel covers all things health wealth and happiness as well as documenting our renovation journey of our 123 year old Victorian Terrace here in Bristol so if that’s the kind of content you enjoy

Watching and you’re not subscribed make sure you’re subscribed so you never miss another video to be quite logical I’ve broken it down to housing bills transport savings investing in debt as one food and drink which was probably the most shocking entertainment and then other so if you’re new to my channel

Last year my other half Cody and I bought our first house which we’ve been renovating ever since there’s a whole playlist if you want to check it out or want to see where we live and have a walk through of the empty house tour video we live in a twoed Victorian

Terrace in Bristol and we have a living room a dining room a kitchen a downstairs toilet that we don’t use we call it the dungeon we have a garden we have two bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom upstairs after our deposit my share of the mortgage is £

5986 and I think if you were to rent a two bed Terrace like we’ve got in Bristol I think you would be looking at 1,400 or £700 per person but we obviously initially had to Fork out that expense of a deposit last year and we of

Course have to renovate it not only have we been restoring it we’ve also been fixing things servicing things and also Furnishing it because when we came we had basically gifted furniture or very little furniture that we already owned like the bed there is of course a monthly expense associated with

Renovating and decorating a house so unfortunately I have a monthly outgoing towards renovation and towards decorating which is just something that I can’t leave the house is not finished you can’t happily live in this state nor can you live in a house that has missing furniture and just general day-to-day

Things that you need so in that 4-week period my share of anything to do with renovation or decorating came to £124.99 and honestly that’s the least Le I have spent in a given month on anything to do with the house so far so the next category is all the bills my

Share of the bills so I’m just going to whiz through I’m not going to go into detailed explanation so every month I pay house insurance and my share is £480 I pay counselor tax and my share is £76 also pay gas and electric together and my share is

9698 my share of water is £26 66 and my half of the internet is £10 and then on the subject of bills I have a category of Life bills so it was just I just thought I’d put it in this section because they are bills and things that I

Have to pay and have no control over um I pay tax obviously and I pay 4580 I also pay National Insurance every month and that’s $200 69.17 I also pay for life insurance me and Cody pay for life insurance and my half is $18.36 I also pay student loans so I

Have two student loans I have my bachelor’s undergrad from when I was living and studying in Cardiff and then I have my postgraduate loan for my masters where I studied here in Bristol and that was just for the course so every month this is also based on your

Earnings so so every month I pay £223 towards my shouldent loans and then I also pay towards a work pension and that is again a percentage based on my earnings and I don’t actually have any say over that I would have liked to have put in more but they take

£213 92 so now I’m going to break down transport and I would say that um transport obviously anywhere in the world if you live somewhere with ex transport facilities then you don’t need a car if you live somewhere that’s close to your work you could walk or cycle and

You probably don’t need any transport so I’m just basing this totally on my experience where I live and based on where I go honestly where we live I’ve touched on this when I talk about the house the transport links here are not good we are more than happy to get a bus

But the bus is double the time it takes to cycle and then let alone Uber or just the convenience of jumping in your own car which Uber and driving is about 10 minutes it’s about 25 minute cycle to town otherwise the bus is 45 minutes and

It just stops everywhere so we will get the bus or the train if we’re traveling to places like London or maybe Cardiff and then if we want to go outside of Bristol say to the beach or anywhere we’ll take our car so I do have a bike

And taking aside the initial bike cost which I spent several months previous obviously the last few weeks I’ve spent nothing on cycling because it’s something I already owned um but we do have a car so our car we bought 2 years ago so obviously again that’s an initial

Expense we paid £99,000 so my share is £45,000 and that of course comes with General monthly expenses so things like petrol petrol fluctuates depending on where we go on this occasion we had a couple of trips so I spent £40 on petrol and I’ve actually spent more on petrol

Between writing this and filming but again just in that 4-week period £40 I pay a monthly car Breakdown Cover which is £11.93 which I think is super cheap I obviously also paid car insurance which is £650 car parking fees which I paid £10 and in that period I also had a parking

Fine which was £25 and actually what’s funny is Cody also had a speeding ticket two different days but it just shows all these additional costs associated with a car that no one considers and then obviously throughout the year aside from this 4mon period you have to consider mot services

And in fact just last week we had two new tires put on which I that was £86 for my share yeah so for that month the car cost was 9343 not obviously considering the initial cost of the car so when it comes to Uber we tend to Uber if um it’s a odd

Location or if we both want to have a drink or if parking’s a problem so this month my share of uber was £21.95 and then I also had some additional transport related expenses so I paid for a bus ticket to go to London which was £133

Return and then I also bought a train to London and I went for the day so that was £46 95 and that was discounted however to get that discount I had to renew my rail card so it’s a discount card if you’re a certain age um and it gives you discount

On trains and I needed to renew mine so I had to pay £30 for that to then pay for the discounted train and then when I was in London I spent £9 10 p on tubes and obviously that’s not associated with Bristol specifically but it was a trip

From living in Bristol and it is an expense that I had so I will count that so Total Transport for that 4-we period was 214 and if you wanted to include the two new tires it’s actually more like £300 and then finally there’s other random

Bills that I didn’t know where to put so I’m just going to put them here so every month I pay for a gym membership my gym is a 12 minute walk from my house so I have absolutely no excuse to not go and I pay

22.99 for that I also have a phone and I pay £7 a month which I know is super cheap but that’s because I bought the phone outright last year or the year before no last year and then I just pay for a Sim only I also pay Mobile phone

Insurance for £435 a month and then I also have dental insurance for £18 pay private and then by paying for this dental insurance you can get a third to a half back on checks on fillings on X-rays I actually made all my money back for the year for a whole year of paying

For this dental insurance in January alone so from one dental trip I I got all my money back from this insurance so my total random bills is £523 4 now this is where it gets hard because this is where I’m not too thrilled how I’m spending my money and that is on food

And drink for groceries for that 4-we period I spent £ 15067 on takeaways I spent £ 3425 on restaurants I spent £0 and then for street food drink and just sort of random food food and drink £ 17474 though I would say that 50 of that

Was um date night so Cody and I alternate with date night he’ll pay I’ll pay but my food and drink total was £419 l66 which otherwise works out to 05 on food and drink for a week I would say though that groceries that does include household cleaning products so when I

Say groceries I also am talking clean cleaning supplies toothpaste and things like that but I still think that that food and drink category is quite high and what’s worrying when writing this and between filming and writing we’ve gone to a wedding we had my 31st

Birthday just a few days ago it’s a lot okay next investing saving and debt repayment so investing a bit random but every month I put in £220 I have a emergency fund account that I’m just trying to build up for you know 6 months to a Year’s worth of

Expenses and I put 220 away for that and I have a very small amount of debt on my credit card and I pay 150 on that that equates to 590 for that category so the next category I have is all about entertainment so things to do or subscriptions and just as random

Random things you spend your money on on so in no order I pay for Spotify $7.99 uh we also pay for Netflix and my share is £549 one evening I paid for paddle boarding that was £12 at the beginning of September I had an early birthday party with my friends in London the

London trip I was talking about our activity was Flight Club where you play darts £ 13 after that we went to a club um and that was £10 entry per person again that same birthday night I also bought a brand new board game such a good board game um villainous Disney villains

£21 we’ve played it three times easily in the last few weeks it’s such a good game so you if you don’t know it I’ll actually leave it link down below it’s such a good Christmas gift or birthday gift anyway and then I spent £36 on books so that might have been

Kind things like that and then I’m also going to include my overnight stay in London for that party and that was £80 and that does count as entertainment so that entertainment category comes to £254 and again I think entertainment is something that I also could control better and that’s not that much really

When you think of it but it could include a lot more free things and finally the last category is just Rand random a bunch of random things I spent my money on so the first is on clothes or accessories so I spent £27 80 I also

Had to top up a bunch of my makeup so it seems a lot but actually when you break down that this will last me 2 or 3 months it’s not that bad but nonetheless it was an expense so on makeup I spent £55 37 but I do expect that to last I

Spent £95 on a pedicure set which seems very random but I worked out that going for a pedicure at the beauticians every other month I was spending over £200 and it’s something that I wanted to do a bit more often I don’t get my hands done

Either but I worked out that if I bought the equipment myself and did it all myself I would literally save half and it would also mean that I could give myself a monthly pedicure and even do a manicure by getting multiple gels the foot Spar all the scrubs the UV setting

And everything that you need so I decided to invest in that to save in the long run but nonetheless again it was still an expense so that was £96 so that total random category comes to £1 1797 so let’s break down each category so total spend all housing related costs were

£723 and5 all bills came to £ 1,344 69 my travel comes to 214 saving investing in debt comes to £590 so food and drink very expensive £419 and66 entertainment £254 other £ 17917 total spend for that 4 week period And I think that is so much money

It’s definitely an eye opener I do think I can definitely cut down on particularly transport Uber things like that I definitely don’t need to spend money on food way too much money that could literally be cut in half and entertainment can even be cut in half

Too if not even a no spend and just doing all free activities and actually if I half transport food and entertainment I think you’re talking about a £500 saving alone just by halfing it well I didn’t enjoy that video but if you did please do give it a

Big thumbs up comment down below if anything surprised you and honestly I think I’m going to have to go back into lockdown or do a 30-day no spend or low spend challenge because I’m not really too happy with spending that much and that money would be better spent in my

Savings account or my investment account nonetheless it’s always interesting to see how much someone spends in a given City so that is how much I spent on an average 4-we period living in Bristol as a 30-year-old I’m now 31 if you’re new to my channel I cover all things health

Wealth and happiness as well as documenting our renovation journey of our 123 yearold old Victorian Terrace here in Bristal so if you’re not subscribed to the channel make sure you’re subscribed so you never miss another video and I will see you in my next one Bye
