School doing some lifeguarding and then that’s why I was like do you know what I can’t be a professional my Mountain bite it’s the dream for most kids that are into it um what can I do that’s different then did sort of college did the normal outdoor instructor course and
Then I had a mate who was a very good boxer and he ended up being in the Marines and he said look I get all the time off in the world boxing as well as being a Frontline Soldier and then that’s when I sort of thought well you
Know what if I join the Marines it’s could give me a good start to um you know do that and then do a bit of riding on the side you go to the careers office oh what was your opinion of it before you went and signed up just the hardest
Basic military training in the world I needed the challenge and that was it I just thought well you know what I want to do this for a challenge for myself and so what makes it how do you know it was the hardest it’s fact it’s the hardest basic
Military training in the world by a few weeks basic military training means just like section to get through okay so is it like our equivalent of a boot camp or is it a boot camp very sort of boot camp in a weird sort of way I guess it’s it’s
An easy way of saying it so if you think everyone looks at the action films and Navy Seals it’s almost like the UK equivalent so if you think of 32 weeks where you go down to lyston for your 3-day Commando course like to your potential ra Marines course it’s called
M you go there prior to that you’ve got various tests that you do in the careers office you go there we went there was maybe 120 odd people out of those people 88 or so par 80 90 past and then that’s where they start the 32 weeks of
Training so 32 weeks of various exercises paral fails and then cut long story short you know over that time loads of people drop out and then you you finish with the last last week which is your commando course week where you end up doing a variety of tests you’ve
Got a 9M speed bar a six mile endurance course a 13 minute Taz and assult course and the very last thing is a is a 30 mile run across dartmore you do with all your kit and you got to do this in eight hours so 30 mile 30 m so You’ what makes
It if you think oh I’m training for a London Marathon all well and good but you’re fresh you’re trained this is bearing in mind you’ve had 32 weeks of just absolute hell thrown at you you know sleep depriva depriva you’ve gone on various exercises like you’re not thinking straight because you you’ve
Gone one test into another and another but the only thing that stands between you getting that Berry is literally 30 miles by the time you get there and that’s all you think you know your body’s absolutely shot but you’re like right this is it this is the last thing
I’ve got to do and then when I pass that that’s that’s the end I earn my barri I earn the respect from my um instructors and things like and that gets you in and that gets you in so cut a long story short 80 odd people started my course
And only 11 of us passed so obviously others may have got back trooped in back what I mean by b trooped is they failed a tasks that they go back in train in a couple of weeks or they’ve been injured or quite clearly they’ve just wanted to
Go to know it’s not for me I’m leaving and that that’s them out out the door so anyway done the people have heard about this anyway but done the military training then deploy on various exercises and then went to Afghanistan and I’m sure loads of people who sort of

Common or running around Dart Mo of a rifle Monday morning so it’s you know you never got a chance anyway like one he’s good but secondly that’s all he does yeah so that’s when it was like no do you know what I’m going to have a
Year out and just see what’s what and you know it’s all documented that’s why I’m going to try and keep it fairly fairly quick is interesting and then uh obviously internet started coming around and then that’s when I went to Whistler on my Gap year as such before I sort of

I’ve just left the Marines after N9 years like what on Earth am I going to do let’s have a holiday see what happens and as it happen like following the likes of Bren olle Danny what whatever and then all of a sudden getting arrested in your pants it’s going to be
Different to your normal person shredding the burm so that’s exactly what happened was there Point like during that period that you ever thought about going back and doing like I guess it wouldn’t have been the same it wouldn’t have been like deployment would it what would have looked like so in the
Marines it’s very different as far as if you’re downgraded you can’t just do be a storan or anything like that because the everyone in the Marines is Frontline Deployable if you join the Army you could potentially be a clerk you could be a chef you you know and that’s your
Job in the Marines it’s all in house so whether you’re a sniper PTI whatever like everyone everyone sort of mix and matches and you’re all Frontline Deployable so can you also give a basic summary of what the difference is between being a marine a raw Marine Commando and an Army
Infantry you’re doing this deliberately there’s uh no I’m interested I have no idea it’s basically the level of training and either I’m sure a number of army or pongos is their name wherever The Army Goes the pong goes they’re um they’re sort of no deep down that ours
Is the hardest training in the world like facts facts speak for themselves we’re almost aligned with the paratroopers they’ve got very similar sort of training where so that’s why you generally see after after the various exercises and operations you generally see that a lot of the poers go to the
Scas whilst the Marines will generally go to the SBS but people will chop and change people go to the SAS SPS whatever and if I’m honest that is potentially where I wanted my career to go you know years ago obviously the S SPS are based
