Your perspective on people, the city and your surroundings is refreshingly different and reminds me to celebrate life and the vibe of my city. I always wear gloves, whatever time of year it is or weather conditions are…would have saved the palms of your hands.
This is the problem with being a "nice" cyclist and riding close to the curb. The little mini potholes or drainage gates or anything can bump you off and cause you to go flying into where the general traffic is going.

It's always a pleasure to see you make a post. Washington DC has a couple bike lanes along the center of a wide avenue. Some are nice, some are very poorly done. It can be nice if it's protected and along a route where people stay on the avenue for a long time and don't tend to turn. But there is another that is not protected (other than a wide lane and low barriers ~20cm tall) because it is a parade route.
