Highlights from stage 4 of the Tour de France 2023. A flat 181.8km stage between Dax and Nogaro with an intermediate sprint at Notre-Dame des Cyclistes and a solitary categorised climb. The finale is technical with lots of tight corners through the town.

  1. Every team was launching their sprint while Alpecin was still doing their last lead out.. totally won by team effort.

  2. Pretty 0:13 bad that for 4 hours, highlight is the tdf devil popping up in the middle of nowhere; otherwise, it was interesting to see tp mixing it up until the end. Hope the tour officials fined the lead out rider who drifted over in the last 100 meters after his pull and took out one of the better sprinters due to complete innatention.

  3. In my day as a race commisaire I was head for a race that was supposed to end up on a motor circuit. Now, this was 30 years ago and the circuit was not a pro one, but it was paved. However, I had a look at the surface and with a sprinkle of rain with the oil in the pavement, probably due to motor crashed looked to me to make it very slippery, so I cut out the track finish. Organizer was not happy, but bikes and oil slick pavement do not mix. Dunno is this is partly the cause, but I hope not.

  4. W hat a worthless, waste of time watching today's stage was!!!! This is professional cycling?!?!?!

Don't get me wrong, I am an avid cycling enthusiast and fan. But today's stage was immensely disappointing. "Ah, we don't really want to ride today. This Tour has just been too hard already…..we need a break." That was the imaginary quote floating through my mind on repeat while watching live this morning.

I've never felt like I wasted my time watching the penultimate race of the season before. Here's hoping things change. If not, I simply won't watch anymore of this "race" (dripping sarcasm intended).

I'll just complete my daily ride during the actual Tour stage, and maybe catch a highlight video.

  5. Caleb is close without a MVDP, Cav as close as he'll ever get, hope Jacobsen ok and Sagan what a disappointing fizzle to his career 🙁

  6. Poor positioning by Cav on this one! I'm rooting so hard for him! Back-to-back close finishes on back-to-back sprint days. Just one more!!!

  7. The crashes during the final moments were extremely cringe-worthy to witness, casting a shadow of embarrassment over the sport. Reflecting on my own experience of going down a year ago, I'm beginning to question my past enjoyment of the sport. It's unclear if any effective measures can be taken, but finding a solution to prevent such crashes should be a top priority.

  8. The amount of fuel bing used with the transport that follows, again, about time this changed, go electric and save the petrol and diesel.
