The MCIA has proposed a radical reform of all motorcycle licences in the UK. The changes are aimed at encouraging more young people to take up biking with fewer tests and costs. However, one of the stings in the tail is that there will no longer be an option to retake the CBT from the looks of it!

  1. A lot of people are calling this "money making" I will leave this here, saves me replying the same thing.

Whenever anyone says "its to make money" I have to point this out. Of the say £700-800 people pay to do a licence, only £100 goes to the gov in test fees. I really do not think it is making anyone enough to make that argument, many pay more than that monthly in tax opposed to once in a lifetime. The people making the most money is the schools and the examiners being paid to do the tests. For this reason I do not buy in to their idea being to "make money" because it isn't making anyone but the schools money and they do not make the rules.

  2. One thing that would reduce the amount of deaths and serious injuries would be to put an age limit on sports bikes, ie, minimum 30 years old with a minimum of ten years continuous riding experience.

Every young rider I’ve known that has died raging was on a sports bike and were speeding at the time.

  3. The issue will also rotate round the insurance industry. Inexperienced, unqualified riders cost them a lot of money -so the premiums rise. If the motorcycle insurers said no insurance to under 18's that would be the new rules, because the law requires insurance.

  4. To encourage actual riding I'd set the earliest age to access at 14, BUT if you start later you are still required to spend a year or two per level before you can progress to larger bikes. The intent here is to require people to demonstrate their progressing skills before they can level up. a log of miles/kilometers ridden might also be of use. (easy enough with pictures of odometers)

  5. Dont think sitting on CBT is what you can afford, but what you can actually realisticly take considering limited number of test centers. Bike training is very expensive and tests are restriced on bikes size, as in cant use 125cc for an a2 license. Whole system forces people to consitantly buy bigger and faster bikes just to pass the test or borrow at again large costs. I gave up, since couldnt practice enough without spending thousands.

Think if they want people to actually progress within the tests them selves, then they need to put money into actually providing same number of test centers that cars currently enjoy, and not up to 2 hour travel time as well as more options for practicing so its more cost effective.

  6. Is that supposed to encourage new riders?
Instead of the proposed malarky, it's so much simpler and potentially cheaper for the potential motorcyclist to do his car license, drive around in a black boxed sh*tbox for two years and then buy a fast car. 😂

  7. Fuck the government for this. I did it in the simple days. Carburettor restrictor on a 600 for 2 years at 17.
Where's the restrictions for car knobs

  8. Some good changes, for the earlier skill levels.

What is absolutely missing is on going support for full licence holders.

Nothing that should be mandated but available over private training.

It is somewhat ironic that you can leap from a 30hp bike 100hp bike (my experience many years ago) to today where you can ride a 200hp superbike or a 180 horse power tourer. These are immense machines that benefit from "knowing how to ride" but "what riding is safely" age has nothing to do with teaching people safe fast road riding.

Just worried that a lot of younger peeps get on 600+ super sports bikes that need to even be turned differently to the low KW bikes.

  9. I paid my one pound test fee and took my motorcycle test in 1963 when i was 16, and passed first time no CBT on a Vespa 150 cc Sportique Road Tax was one pound a year. In those days you could pass your test on a Honda 50 cc moped and go ride a big engine motorcycle those were the days.

  10. It's overly complicated and could be far simpler and just ensure power and speed are accessible through experience regardless of age as that experience would obviously come with age. However exactly the same thing should also happen for cars, insurance cost isn't an obstruction for everyone and it's already at the point where you don't need to buy a supercar to go faster than some people's lack of experience should permit them to. Delivery drivers are a nightmare on the road and that's not going to change with licencing, they ride like that to earn more by delivering more, that's a problem in the way they are paid.

  11. It’s shit hole England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 the country designed to scam as much money out of the working class as possible. It’s a total shit sty of a country.

  12. The DVLA removed my hgv 2 and my A motorcycle entitlement when I applied for my plastic licence after 10 years of fighting for the entitlement back i have given up and my old pink paper licence is still legal so I still use that

  13. One thing most people overlook at the majority of 125's are not allowed on the motorway… Law say atleast 125cc for motorway yet most 125 class bikes are 122 – 124cc displacement as the manufacturers don't want to risk going over 125cc… So I'd guess a lot of people doing it are doing so illegally.

  14. Ok this all seems a bit better but if you pass your Car test you can drive ANY CAR if you can afford the insurance.
How about young car drives being limited to ONE Passenger ? That way they can take they mum shopping or pick their dad up from the pub or even just take a love one out .
Now that would make sence as ive seen many lads in cars acting like idiots when the car is full of young hot blooded males .

  15. I've got a A1 + A2. ..42years..Now had since 1981 ..but. because I've lodes of experience and from back in day but never went 4 full licence bike iam 59 told I need to do ( cbt) course to go 4ward 4 me full licence is there away round cbt …can any let me No thanks iam not paying money 4 somt.i can in sleep

  16. So when your CBT Plus runs out, and you don't do your test right away, that's it, you can't get a license. If you need a CBT to do lessons/test, and your CBT has run out, how do you do your test? lol

  17. Why can i do a car test at 17 & then drive a Bugatti Veyron the next day but we cant do the same on a bike??? people arent going to generally do that on a bike either & its their risk if they do. i did the test round the block as well, we didn't all go out & get Suzuki GS1000s etc. then, why would they (modern equivalent) now

  18. So, what about the people who don't want a more full or advanced license? The ones perfectly happy to stick to a scooter and therefore have no requirement for a full license? The new proposal appears to be forcing people to take and pay for extra tests instead of just renewing their CBT every two years – so you're forced to pony up the extra money else you can't ride your scooter any more? That seems a bit harsh.

  19. The idea of the same teaching school doing the test is insane. The test must be unbiased and the the instructor will have invested interest and be pressurised by the customers.

  20. Thanks for the vid, i'm looking to do my CBT again (did it many years ago and passed my bike theory at the time but never bought a bike!). I'm hoping to get my CBT done in early 2024 and theory test done, deffo want to do the DAS and get the full licence. It will be interesting to see what changes will actually be implemented though! we've not had a shake up like this in a long time!

  21. They should make this as only apply to new drivers and not ones who have been riding for years and know what there doing, a literal scam is what this is

  22. Great video explaining everything, however one main question still not answered, when are we likely to see this change put in place if it even does get put into place?

  23. I’m on a A1 license took the test on a 125 to reduce the cost,
Been riding bikes for many years so being able to ride upto 22kw means 250cc and some
Sluggish 350s like royal Enfield, so not much of a power increase but saves taking more tests, but if it’s made law it will probably take another 10 years, 🙄
