Description: Molecular materials, where the fundamental building blocks are molecules, rather than atoms. We are working on two exciting new and important families of molecular materials, namely, (i) atomically precise metallic clusters and (ii) gas hydrate cages. Important strides have been made in studying atomically precise metal clusters containing tens to hundreds of atoms. Huge clusters are expected to have very different properties (eg. fluorescence, catalysis, etc), compared to molecules and bulk materials. With respect to gas hydrates, molecular cages containing CO2, CH4, etc, are being studied by our group. Such studies are important in both fundamentals and applications.
