Morgan Stricot and Beatrice Zaidenbery
Wednesday 25th October 2023
Since its founding in 1989, ZKM – the Centre for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany has collected and/or produced approximately 1000 digital artworks with various typologies. This long experience has made the ZKM a centre of expertise for the preservation of such artworks. The interdisciplinary team of conservators, computer scientists, engineers, technicians, and historians, is looking for solutions to exhibit and maintain these artworks in a rapidly changing environment.
Through a selection of recently acquired artworks within the recent exhibition, such as BioMedia, the different challenges that are faced while exhibiting and preserving them will be addressed. Furthermore, other case studies will be presented to highlight how preservation affects the ZKM collection concept and scientific project.
